一 个 政 治 家 的 史 学 自觉
—
——略论唐太宗和历史学

　　摘 　要 :“史学自觉”
至少包括两层含义 : 第一 ,对史学的功用有深刻的认识 ,并能以这种认识
运用于一定的社会实践 。第二 ,对史学活动给予关注 ,并在史学工作上作出积极的努力和相应的
贡献 。唐太宗的史学自觉 ,是“贞观之治”的思想基础之一 ; 他的史学自觉在政治实践和史学事业
中的作用及其产物是“贞观之治”
之积极成果的重要方面 。

　　这里说的“史学自觉”,至少包括两层含义 。第一层含义是 : 对史学的功用有深刻的认识 ,

并能以这种认识运用于一定的社会实践 。第二层含义是 : 对史学活动给予关注 ,并在史学工作
上作出积极的努力以至于作出相应的 ( 直接的或间接的) 贡献 。一个人具备了这两层含义的要
求 ,可谓之“史学自觉”。在中国古代的政治家中 ,唐太宗是一位“史学自觉”的突出代表 。
一 政治家需要历史学吗 ?
这个问题 ,不止是一个理论问题 ,对于政治家来说 ,它更是一个实践问题 。因此 ,对于这个
问题的回答 ,必须从认识和实践两个方面进行考察 。在中国古代政治生活中 ,尤其是在中国封
建社会的政治生活中 ,唐太宗是从认识和实践两个方面对这个问题作出了很好的回答的政治
家 。唐太宗认识历史有一个特点 ,即他十分重视认识历史的途径 。具体说来 ,他认为人们通过
读史才能了解古代历史的面貌 ,了解历史上的人和事 ,从而从历史中得到启示和智慧 。反之 ,
离开了史书 ,这一切都成了不可能的事情 。他曾这样写道 :
　　朕拯溺师旋 ,省方礼毕 ; 四海无事 ,百揆多闲 ; 遂因暇日 ,详观典府 。考龟文于羲载 ,辨
鸟册于轩年 ; 不出岩廊 ,神交千祀之外 ; 穆然旒纩 ,临睨九皇之表 。是知右史序言 ,由斯不

 On the Historiography Consciousness of Tang Ta i Zong

　　Abstract : The consciousness of historiograp hy includes two parts of component meanings at least . The first is
deeply understood of t he historic function which could be exercised in social practice. The second is giving attention
to historic research based on t he first meaning which does active effort and corresponding contribution for it . Among
Chinese ancient politicians , empire Tang Tai Zong was a famous representation of historiograp hy consciousness ,
which is t he foundation of Zhen Guan Zhi Zhi. Its infection and production on political practice and historic project
are important aspects of affirmative results of Zhen Guan Zhi Zhi.
