B. Academic Honesty: Cheating will result in an F grade Ior the assignment or test. Other
action may be taken as per Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Iound on the
college`s website.
C. Students need to respect patient`s privacy
D. Students late Ior lecture may not be allowed to enter the classroom
E. Class participation and attendance: Students are expected to attend all lecture classes. II
a class is missed, arrange with your study buddy` to obtain all handouts and notes. Five
points will be deducted Ior every lecture missed.
F. Dental Assisting Policy and Procedural Manual should be reviewed and Iollowed

FINANCIAL AID:

Students receiving Iinancial aid should ALWAYS check with Financial Aid prior to withdrawing, signing an
incomplete contract, or receiving an F or V grade.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND EXPECTATIONS:

Learning experiences are designed to achieve the objectives oI the course.

This a lecture class. Lectures will be presented to clariIy materials in the text. Videos, slides, overheads, and
group activities may also be used.

Grades are based on the accumulation oI points Ior assignments, tests, quizzes and group projects. Points are then
averaged at the end oI the quarter Ior the Iinal grade. Points may be deducted Ior late assignments. Students absent
the day a test is given must take the test the Iirst day back to school. Students will receive 95 oI their points
earned on the test. Students taking a test the second day back to school will receive 85 oI their points earned.
AIter the second day, students cannot take the test and will receive an F` grade on their test. All late tests must be
scheduled and are not on a drop in basis.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This lecture course covers: hazardous communications program; use oI nitrous oxide as an analgesic; group
research project involving various countries and cultural norms oI our patients and peers; written and oral dental
related reports.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

Upon the completion oI this course the successIul student will be able to:

A. List the components oI an eIIective hazardous waste communications program;
1. Requirements oI the Hazard Communication Training Program;
2. Written communication plan Ior the oIIice;
3. Understanding the hazards oI chemicals with which employees work to include
handling, disposal, clean up;
4. Ability to interpret MSDS;
5. Measures to protect employees to include personal protection equipment;
6. Methods and observations to detect the presence or release oI a hazardous waste;
7. Labeling oI containers;
8. Waste management;

B. Describe the use oI nitrous oxide in the dental oIIice to include:
1. Indications and contraindications
2. Application
3. Monitoring
4. Maintaining equipment
5. Patient management
6. Liabilities
7. Washington State Dental Practice regulation oI the use oI nitrous oxide

C. Participate in groups projects Iocused on enhancing our understanding oI our patient`s cultural
background to include;
