INTRODUCTION One of the major causes of Blindness among children under 5 years of age is Vitamin A Deficiency Early detection and treatment with Vitamin A supplementation is essential. OBJECTIVES 1) Teo assess the prevalance of Vitamin A Deficiency among children aged 3 to 5 years in Neelambur 2) To assess awareness regarding Vitamin A Deficiency among the mothers of these children m Neelambur REVIEW OF LITERATURE An ICMR Study has shown that mean prevalance of Vitamin A Deficiency among pre schoo! children is about 16 % all through the country The nation wide survey of blindness conducted during 1986 to 1989 which included the prevalance of Vitamin A Deficiency in under 6 children showed a prevalance of 6.01 % ( Park .K 1998) and in Tamil Nadu, the Prevalence rate is 3.6% Present prevalance of night blind ness in India is more than 1% (C3SM) - O.P.
