The Kindergarten and Preschool at First Presbyterian Church was established in September 1965.

Classes for kindergarten students were offered to provide children in the community educational experiences that would encourage independence, self reliance, and foster a positive attitude toward learning. All of these things would take place within a loving, Christian environment. The same principles still apply over 40 years later. We now open our doors to children twelve months to kindergarten and continue to provide the community with the quality education they have come to associate with First Presbyterian Church. We are licensed through the Mississippi State Department of Health and have an Excellent rating with the Office for Children and Youth. All teachers are CPR and First Aid certified through the American Red Cross and required to receive at least 20 hours of continuing education throughout the year. First Presbyterian Church Kindergarten and Preschool is accepting applications for the coming school year. Class Sizes are limited. You will be notified regarding acceptance as soon as we receive your application and fees. Registration fees for the coming year will be $90.00 per student, along with a supply fee for children in the three, four and five year old classrooms and must be included with completed application. Supply fees are $55.00 for students in the Three Year Old Class and $65.00 for students in Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten. This is a fun, happy class of active children ages 12 to 24 months. The time is geared toward directed play, introducing textures and sounds, learning to be without mommy, and socializing with others. Part of each class time is spent stimulating language development and enhancing gross motor skills. Two Year Old Class Time: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:45 12:15 Cost: $105.00 per month or Time: Monday thru Friday Cost: $155.00 per month Age: Two by September 1

This class is geared toward introducing the child to the world around them using in part colors, numbers, and shapes. They will work on social skills, learning to receive instruction from another adult, making comparisons, creative thinking, problem solving and gross and fine motor skills, all in preparation for the next step. Children are also allowed ample free time to explore centers independently. Three Year Old Class Time: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:45 12:15 Cost: $105.00 per month or Time: Monday thru Friday Cost: $155.00 per month Age: Three by September 1

This class is geared toward introducing the child to a more structured environment. Certain times are set each day to study a weekly theme and letter of the alphabet. Children are learning to follow a series of instructions. Writing and phonics are introduced. Group and individual activities take place to help develop the childs communication skills, social skills, and fine and gross motor skills. Children must be potty trained and able to use the restroom with little or no assistance.

Pre-Kindergarten

This class is geared toward preparing the child for Kindergarten. Emphasis is placed on following directions, listening and demonstrating self-control. Children explore letters and numbers in more depth and continue writing and phonics skills. Environment is more structured but time is allowed for freely exploring their world through role-playing, art, and physical movement. Children must be completely potty trained and able to independently take care of all restroom needs. We are happy to include Wednesday as an extended day. The children bring a sack lunch from home and enjoy a vigorous workout with Mrs. Liz Curtis from Pee-Wee Workout. Kindergarten Time: Monday thru Friday 8:45 12:15 Cost: $155.00 per month or Time: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:45 12:15 Wednesday 8:45 - 2:00 Cost: $200.00 per month Five by September 1

This class is geared toward preparing the child to enter a larger classroom environment of all-day Kindergarten or First Grade. Class sizes are limited so that children can gain the skills and confidence needed for a good self-image and independence. Reading readiness, improving handwriting skills and number concepts are stressed. Children will experience the world around them with hands on activities, guest speakers and field trips. Children must be completely potty trained and able to independently take care of all restroom needs. We are happy to include Wednesday as an extended day. The children bring a sack lunch from home and enjoy a vigorous workout with Mrs. Liz Curtis from Pee-Wee Workout. T.O.T.s Time: Tuesday and Thursday 8:45 12:15 Cost: $85.00 per month Age: One, Two or Three years old

If space is available we will have a T.O.T.s class for children ages one, two and three. The class takes place on Tuesday and Thursday during the school year. The children are placed in the appropriate classroom according to age. They enjoy music, art, story time, free play and much more.

Early Bird is also available starting at 8:00 am. The cost is $1.50 per day. If you need to bring your child anytime before 8:45 am, you are welcome to use this service. Early Bird is always fully staffed so there is no need for advance notice. We hope that you will prayerfully consider one of the above classes for your child.
