Israel means The one who struggled with God The Israelites are the offspring of Jacob. The history of Israel goes back even further than 2000 BC. In fact, the selection of Israel as a special nation was part of God's plan from the beginning of time. God chose these people because of His love for them and His unconditional covenant with Abraham.
Holocaust
For many centuries Jewish people have been persecuted for their religious beliefs and were often viewed as outsiders. Adolf Hitler became the leader of Germany, and made many laws that restricted Jewish people's lives. Forced to wear the Star of David on their clothing to identify themselves as Jews Jews of Germany, and eventually the Jews of surrounding countries were all forced onto cramped dirty trains with no food or water for many hours and transported to concentration camps. 6 Million Jews were murdered.
