Remittance is the transfer of money by foreign worker to their home countries,

according to Wikipedia. They are sent home by those who are working abroad, like the
OFWs, for example. Migration and remittances of the scale in the Philippines is a glaring
sign of economic failure.
The Philippine government today doesn’t care about CARP because they are
depending solely at OFW’s remittances. Recently, about 14 billion USD was directed to
our country. A certain percent of GDP came from the remittances of the OFWs. There are
many Filipinos who are jobless and who are poor. Many Filipino people find greener
pastures in abroad because it has greater salaries and also economically sustainable.
Some of them, like the prostitutes, are forced to work outside of the country because of
financial reasons.
Remittance is mot the solution to the economic problems we have today in the
Philippines. One of our speakers told us that the government should focus also in the
development of the agriculture in the Philippines because it is important – agriculture –
for economic reasons – for import and export of rice. For the students, they should
consider first if they have to work abroad or in our country. It is not bad if we dream to
work abroad because it is our right to choose a place of work.
