Abstract Medical Treatment of Depression for old patients in South Sumatra: Using of Psychotherapy Agents Dendy Riansyah, Enggrajati Moses H.S, Damai Trilisnawati Introduction Depression is the condition in which related to the normal emotions of sadness and bereavement, but it does not remit when the external cause of the emotions dissipates. Prevalence data of depression in Indonesian geriatric was got from hospitally acute geriatric patient with depression 76,3%. In addition, the survey which used interview method was done in Myria Hospital. We used a systematic literature review and limited manual search journals was also performed. Results From the data, it can be

concluded that there was an increasing number of depression sufferers in

Palembang, South Sumatra. This case refer to the result was in accordance with the decrease in human quality of life as the geriatric patients. The first choice of treatment that can be done is psychotherapy in which the main way to treat mild and moderate depression. If the sufferers are in severe depressive disorders, drugs (antidepressant) will be used to overcome it.
