RECAP

In last class we have learnt about the

• Corrugated diaphragm

AEI405.5 2
Objectives

After the completion of this topic you are able to

know about

Capsule• Description
• Principle

• Operation

AEI405.5 3
Capsule

AEI405.5 4
Capsule
• It is also called as aneroid.

• Two identical diaphragms are sealed at their

periphery.

• One diaphragm consists of pressure inlet.

• Another one is linked to the mechanical

member.

AEI405.5 5
Capsule…

• Displacement of this member is proportional to the

difference of the inner and outer pressure.

• Two or more diaphragms are joined to form a capsule.

• All diaphragms in a capsule act in unison.

• The travel arm for a given pressure is greater than that

of single diaphragm.

AEI405.5 6
Double capsule

AEI405.5 7
Double capsule

• Large displacements are achieved by stacking

multiple capsule elements coupled in tandem.

• This is called double capsule and is shown in Fig.2.

• Material usually used is bronze or stain steel for

capsules
