Selection of V belts and pulleys - selection of Flat belts and pulleys Wire ropes and pulleys Selection of Transmission chains and sprockets Design of pulleys and sprockets. Session No 1. Topics to be covered Introduction to transmission systems various types of transmission systems Mechanical drives - Applications of individual drives Introduction to belt drives- types of belt drives belt materials advantages & disadvantages of belt drives- Design of Vbelts selection of V belts from data book for cross section - design of V- grooved pulleys. 2 problems in design of V- belts solved in the class. Chain drives Principle, applications, terms used in design of chain drives , adv. & disadvantages of chain drives over belt drives- design equations length of chain required. Force analysis on spur gears discussed in detail with the help of design data book Design of spur gears using Buckingham and Lewis equations based on beam strength of the tooth and wear load Calculation of FS , FD, and FW loads on the teeth. Step by step procedure of designing spur gears using data book discussed 1 problem in design of spur gears solved using Buckingham and Lewis equations. 1 problem in design of spur gears given as exercise for the students. The previous class problem will be continued and completed Listing of all dimensions of the gears also taught Tutorial class was conducted for the students 1 problem in design of spur gear was given and students were asked to solve in the class.
