Councils oppose corruption

SA’s Local Government Association has expressed confidence in SA’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) but has
asked the State Government for its views.

LGA President Mayor Joy Baluch said that the LGA and Councils had looked at the powers and functions of
anti-corruption mechanisms rather than the “acronym wars” at the state level and in the media over a 12 month
period.

“Whether we call it an ICAC or ACB makes no difference – what does matter are the powers and resources
that sit behind the acronym.”

“The real issue is whether we think the systems are comprehensive, robust, and adequately resourced.

“Our Councils believe they are, but we will now ask the State Government to respond to our conclusions.

“We have neither supported nor opposed an ICAC for South Australia. “Ultimately that is not a decision for us
– it’s one for State Government.”
