Chapter 5 Equipment Room Environment

The equipment room for the telecommunication equipment must keep away from the places with high temperature, dense dust, harmful gases, explosive articles, unstable voltage, intensive vibration or big noises. It must also be far from the substation. The equipment room for the telecommunication equipment cannot be relocated rashly because of the serious impact of the network movement on telecommunication services. Therefore, it must have perfect durability, avoiding frequent repairs. Besides, it must comply with the corresponding fire-resistance standards.

5.1 Area
The minimum area of the equipment room is the one that can hold the switch. Clearance requirements are as follows:

Retain a clearance of at least 1000 mm between the wall and the front of the cabinets in the first row. It is better if the clearance is greater than or equal to 1200 mm. Retain a clearance of at least 1000 mm between the wall and the back of the cabinets in the last row. Retain a clearance of at least 800 mm between the wall and the side of the outer cabinets. Retain a clearance of at least 1000 mm between the cabinets in two adjacent rows. If the equipment room is not spacious, a clearance of at least 800 mm is required. Reserve space for future expansion. Arrange the cables properly and avoid cabling conflicts between the AC/DC power cable and the signal cable. Consider the design rationality, installation feasibility, and neatness of the equipment room.

5.2 Height
The lowest indoor height refers to the net distance between the beam and the ventilation pipe, which must be not shorter than 3 meters.

5.3 Floor
The floor of the equipment room must be semi-conductive and able to keep the dust from flying up. Generally, the anti-static elevated floor is adopted and laid out precisely, with the horizontal error less than 2mm. If there is no elevated floor, the electrostatic conductive material (volume resistivity 1.0 107~1.0 101010 ) is required on the floor. The electrostatic conductive material or the elevated floor must be grounded through the current-limiting resistance (1M ) and cables connecting the grounding apparatus. The floor of the equipment room must be able to bear the pressure intensity of more than 600kg/m2. For old buildings, it is necessary to take some measures to consolidate their weight-bearing capabilities. Advices: It is advised to adopt upward cabling mode for equipment rooms to be constructed.

5.4 Environment Specifications

When the switch is in normal operation, the temperature and humidity of the equipment room are measured at the spot two meters above the floor and 0.4 meters away from the front of the equipment (there are no protecting boards before and behind the racks). Short-term work means that the equipment runs less than 48 hours successively each time and its accumulated working time per year is within 15 days.

5.4.1 Temperature
The temperature of the equipment room for the UGW9811 must follow the criteria below strictly:

Long-term work temperature (performance guaranttee 0C ~ 45C temperature) Short-term work temperature -5C ~ 55C Transportation and storage -45C ~ 70C
*Short-term work: Short-term work means that the equipment runs less than 48 hours successively each time and its accumulated working time per year is within 15 days.

5.4.2 Humidity
The temperature of the equipment room for the UGW9811 must follow the criteria below strictly:

Long-term work humidity (performance guaranttee 30~65% humidity) Short-term work humidity 10~90% Transportation and storage 95%
* Short-term work: Short-term work means that the equipment runs less than 48 hours successively each time and its accumulated working time per year is within 15 days.

5.4.3 Lighting
Generally, an equipment room is equipped with three lighting systems, namely: 1) 2) 3)

Common lighting system: provided by mains supply. Backup lighting system: provided by the diesel engine generator of the office. Emergency lighting system: provided by the battery before the standby one starts working when the common lighting system is cut down. Lowest illumination standard: 150~200LX (measured at the level 0.8m from the floor)

5.4.4 Dustproof
The dust accumulated on the equipment may cause electrostatic adherence, thus leading to poor contact of the metal connectors, which will not only shorten the lift span of the equipment, but also tend to trigger equipment faults. Therefore, the dust in the equipment must be restricted within the following criteria: Limitations for dust in the equipment room
12

UGW9811 Engineering Installation Customer Preparation Guide

Maximum diameter ( m) 0.05 Dust density (particles per 14 105 cubic meter)

1 7 105

3 24 104

5 13 104

1: Density of the dust particles whose diameters are greater than 5 m must be less than 3 104 /m3. 2: The dust particles must not be conductive, magnetically conductive, and corrosive. 3: Common dustproof window: the openable window is not fixed with dust washers around its edges, but it must be seamless when it is closed. 4. Perfect dustproof window: the openable space must not surpass one third of the window area, and the openable window is fixed with dust washers around its edges.

5.4.5 Corrosion Protection

Apart from the dust in the equipment room, noxious gases such as SO2, H2S, NH3, and NO2 must also be controlled under the following standards:

Gas Sulfer dioxide (SO2) Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) 0.2 0 0.04

Average (mg/m3)

Maximum (mg/m3) 1.5 0.03 0.15

5.4.6 Fireproof
The communication equipment room must be fireproof and comply with all of the related standards for environment protection, fire prevention and burglar resistance as well as various national regulations for building design. 1) 2) 3) 4) Dangerous articles that are inflammable or explosive must not be put in the equipment room. The fire prevention devices are required on the engineering sites, such as the smoke sensor and the temperature sensor with good performance. The sockets of different voltages in the equipment room must be marked with conspicuous identifiers. The hole reserved on the slab must be installed with a safe capping plate.

According to Interval between residential buildings for fire resistance specified in the Fire-resistance Regulations for Architecture Design: As the major fire prevention object, the buildings for telecommunication equipment must be Rate one (high-buildings) or Rate two in terms of the fire resistance rating, and the interval between buildings must be six meters at least. If the neighboring buildings are Rate three or Rate four, the interval must not be less than seven meters.

5.4.7 Lightning Protection and Grounding

Since the mobile telecommunication equipment is a precision instrument, it is necessary to take some measures to prevent lightning and electromagnetic interference. Parts of the building such as chimneys and antennas 15 meters or higher above the equipment room top must be lightning-proof in terms of the design. The straight lightning and the invasion of the lightning current must be taken into the consideration in the lightning protection design. Especially for equipment rooms in the
13

UGW9811 Engineering Installation Customer Preparation Guide

area where lightning occurs frequently, some measures must be taken to protect the main equipment room building from being hit on their sides by the lightning. The lightning protection measures vary from situation to situation. For example, connecting the external metal window with the downlead, setting horizontal metal lightning protection belts at different heights along the building wall, among others. For the main building for the equipment room, the parts that will be hit easily by the lightning must be equipped with the protection net or lightning protection belt. Protruding parts such as chimneys and antennas must be protected with lightning arresters. The diameter of the reinforcement bar must be at least 2mm when it acts as a downlead, and the interval between the reinforcement bars must not be greater than 10m. The grounding resistance in the lightning protection grounding apparatus must not be greater than 10W. The cables and metal pipes outdoors must be grounded before they are connected into equipment rooms. The outdoor overhead lines must be fixed with lightning arresters at the entrances to equipment rooms. Both the buildings and some parts of them must have their respective lightning protection downleads. The reinforced concrete panels, beams, pillars or the basic reinforcements may also act as the downleads of the lightning protection apparatuses. In the past, the grounding systems for the buildings, telecommunication equipment, power supply system are independent from each other, and the intervals between them must comply with certain standards. For the limitation of the base area, however, those grounding systems had to be very close to each other. Therefore, a joint grounding system is required to connect together the grounding apparatuses for the buildings, telecommunication equipment, and power supply system. In this way, the resistance of the joint grounding system must be the minimum one among the resistances of various grounding apparatuses connected together. It is better to use the metal parts (such as reinforcements in walls or pillars) of the buildings itself as the downleads of the lightning protection apparatuses, thus ensuring the level balance in the buildings.

5.4.8 Other Requirements

The table below shows the other requirements for equipment rooms.

Door, window

Wall

Door: single door, 2-meter high and 1-meter wide Window: double-glass seal Both doors and windows of equipment rooms must be sealed with dustproof rubber belts. The wall can either be stuck with wall-paper or painted with mat vanish instead of the paints easy to be chalked.

Duct and Ducts and troughs in equipment rooms used for cable layout must be toughs in smooth. The length and width reserved as well as quantity, positions and equipment dimensions of the holes must comply with the requirements for rooms switching equipment room layout. The feed pipes, drain pipes and rain-water leaders must not go through equipment rooms. Fire hydrants must be placed at the conspicuous and handy corridars or staircases. Chapter 9 Cabling Tray and Base

Cabling tray The UGW9811 supports both upward cabling and downward cabling. Here are some suggestions for upward cabling mode:
1) 2)

Using suspender; Width of the cabling tray: 400mm; Installation height: 2400mm.

Support Huawei provides installing supports [default]. The user must first present the height of the anti-static floor so that Huawei can prepare the corresponding support. [Note: The height of the anti-static floor refers to the distance between the upper level of the anti-static floor and the cement floor.]

1. Installation on the cement floor

The N68E-22 cabinet is mounted on the cement floor, fixed with expansion bolts. Before installing the cabinet, make a planning according to the space available. Enough space must be left both in front of and behind the cabinet for operation and maintenance. For the N68E-22 cabinet, there must be an 800mm empty space at each side. Figure 4 shows the position of the hole for the expansion bolt used by the single cabinet, and Figure 5 shows the position of the hole for the expansion bolt used by a row of combined cabinets.

2. Installation on the anti-static floor

When installing a N68E-22 cabinet in an equipment room with an anti-static floor, install N6X brackets. The purpose is to block up the cabinet. In addition, in this way, laying a floor and cabling can be easier. Brackets are made by welded steel plates. Use bolts to fix cabinet, guide rail and bracket together. In this way, the cabinet can be fixed and supported. When installing a cabinet, you need two N6X brackets. For the installation of combined cabinets, use the 2N mode to choose brackets. That is to say, N cabinets in a row need 2N brackets. On some occasions, brackets may be called base sets. Customers can prepare mounting sets by themselves. When preparing mounting sets by customer, please make them according to the size of N6X bracket and the installation size on a concrete floor. There are two types of N6X series supports: one height-adjustable support and one fixed-height support. The below lists the anti-static floor heights the two types of supports are applicable to.
