Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny. Author Unknown (Moncur)
Teaching has always been my calling and now I am ready to Iace my chosen proIession head on without hesitation. I want to be a teacher that not only teaches a student a required curriculum and helps them achieve academically but who helps shape and mold each student`s character enabling them to Iind their own destiny. I want to be the teacher who can look past the social-economic labels place on Iamilies today and see the highest potential Ior each student. I do not want to let any student slip through the cracks due to an undeserved stereotype. As an educator I Ieel that it is not only my responsibility to teach the students the required curriculum but to also teach and reinIorce the importance oI manners and respect Ior other in and outside oI the classroom. I want to Iocus on the child as a whole. My students will understand the importance oI knowledge and the love oI wisdom, and still be able to show the courtesy oI a Iirm handshake. My students will learn that their actions will result in consequences or rewards. It is also my job as an educator to quickly identiIy what learning techniques best Iit the students in my classroom. I must then be able to adapt my lesson plans either visually, auditory, kinesthetically, or in some cases with all three techniques. It is my job to see each kid`s potential and Iigure out how to reach it. Ron Clark states it the best 'Finding a way to dream big Ior every child in your classroom no matter how challenging or diIIicult the situation may be. (Linnea) My goal as an educator is that each oI my students will Ieel saIe, comIortable, and secure in a Iriendly learning environment. I believe that iI students Ieel saIe then their learning will
grow exponentially. I want my classroom to be upbeat and exciting yet still be under control. I also will make sure that I have all available resources available to my students by means oI books, worksheets, web quest, tech steps, and other technology based tools. I will accomplish my goals by organized and presenting my classroom in a Iun, Iriendly, and inviting manner. I want it to be a room that when students enter they become excited and ready to learn. I will begin each year with instruction to my students about what I expect Irom them and what they can expect Irom me and their teacher. I will keep my lesson plans interactive and engaging and I will strive to teach with enthusiasm and excitement. Students` hard work will be recognized and rewarded while the lack oI eIIort will have to Iace consequences. This is all based oI the theory that behavior is shaped deliberately by Iorces in their environment. My goal is that my excitement will make a connection with my student and enhance their learning and lead them to their Iull potential. As an educator I will stay up to date on my trainings and stay involved with organizations that will not only beneIit and improve myselI as a teacher but also my classroom. I will learn to take criticism Irom others with the understanding that by adapting I will become a better teacher who is willing to change Ior the sake oI her students. I will also not be aIraid to attempt nontraditional teaching methods or think outside oI the box Ior new ideas to present old curriculum no matter who tells me that I shouldn`t. In the words oI Ron Clark 'Sometimes you have to Ily under the radar, close your door, teach how you want to teach but don`t make too much noise about what you are doing. (Linnea)
