Task 5 Magazine Research I would like to create a magazine that focuses mainly on Indie/Folk genres.

. Therefore, I am researching NME magazine, as it regularly reports both genres of music. My target audience is both males & females, aged from 15 - 25

New Music Express, or NME, is a popular British publication, established in 1952 by London music promoter Maurice Kinn. Initially, NME was closely associated with punk rock genres, as well as R&B and Hip - Hop. However, more recently, NME moved towards the indie rock genre, regularly featuring artists such as Bombay Bicycle Club, Ok Go and Arctic Monkeys. In 1996, NME.com was launched, and receives 5 million users per month. NME is published weekly, with a circulation of 33, 875, and a target audience of younger people, aged 15 25, who are interested in music that doesnt fit general stereotypes. Publication History

Initially released as Musical Express and Accordion Weekly, NME was renamed and relaunched in 1952 in partnership with IPC Media (Times Inc.) In May 2008, NME went under a redesign, aimed at an older readership with a less poppy, more authoritative tone.

Covers NME Magazine is well known for their creative covers, which include artists from a range of different genres, such as the Killers, an indie band, Dizzee Rascall, an R&B artist, and Muse, a rock band. When the magazine began, it championed new British groups emerging at the time, with groups such as the Rolling Stones and The Beatles frequently on the front cover. As other genres of music became more prominent, NME began including a wider variety of artists as their cover stars, with artists from Rock and Hip - Hop regularly being featured, such as Nirvana and Tyler the Creator.

Content NME contains features such as: Reviews pages dedicated to reviewing the latest music, games & films. Live reviews of recent live shows. Gig Guide a list of upcoming shows that fit the genres NME report on. Radar a page dedicated to up and coming artists, who NME predict will be a large part of the music industry. Mail a chance for readers to send in their opinions & comments. NME.com also contains these features, as well as a merchandise store, videos & links to ticket distributors.
