A Quick Look at NOUNS

An adjective is a word that describes or limits a noun or pronoun. There are two major classes of adjectives, descriptive and limiting adjectives. A. Descriptive Adjectives describes the characteristics of a noun or pronoun. a. Proper Adjective- formed from a proper noun. Philippine flag Russian army Christian faith Canadian bacon b. Common Adjective- expresses the ordinary qualities of a noun. majestic mountain useful things furry monkey colorful drawing c. Participle- may be used as adjectives. broken arrow shooting stars untamed horses mended socks B. Limiting Adjectives points out the number of an object.

1. Demonstrative Adjective- points out a definite person, place, or thing. this, that, these, those 2. Possessive Adjective- shows ownership. his, her, their, my, our, your, its 3. Distributive Adjective- refers to each person, place, or thing separately. each, every, either, neither 4. Indefinite Adjective- points out no particular person, place, or thing. both, few, several, many some, any, all, most other, another 5. Interrogative Adjective- used in asking questions. Which color do you like more? What food causes acne? Whose bag is that?

REMEMBER a. Articles- (a, an, the) indicate whether the noun is used definitely or indefinitely. b. Numerical Adjective- denotes the exact number, rank, position of a noun. 1. Cardinal- one, two, three, etc 2. Ordinal- first, second, third, etc c. Pronominal Adjective- may also be used as pronouns. It has five (5) classes: Every adjective answers at least one of the questions below: Which one? What kind? How many? Whose?
