Over 200 UK dentists have now visited San Fedele, overlooking Lake Como in Italy to hear Dr Lorenzo Vanini lecture on composites
to life. A technique which is as useful for communication with the laboratory as it is for direct composite. The Colour Map encourages the user to be more discerning when assessing value, characteristics and intensive patterns within the tooth. Along with the materials used by Dr Vanini, this can greatly simplify delegates getting hands on the build up as the HFO and the new HRi composites rely on three simple options for the enamel mass by varying the value, which directly relates to the age of the patient and a universal dentin. A patient is then treated by Dr Vanini under a microscope to see live and in real time the build-up technique. Of course, each case varies dependant on the patient, adding to the excitement and giving all delegates the opportunity to see Dr Vanini at work with the materials and technique. A lively evening on the Friday follows at a local rustic restaurant, where the owner insists on organising the menu and where his meals have become legendary amongst delegates. The wine also never disappoints! For over a decade Optident has been organising the unparalleled Hands-on Masterclass with Dr Lorenzo Vanini in San Fedele, overlooking the beautiful Lake Como. Over 200 dentists from UK and Ireland have spent the weekend enjoying the local hospitality combined with an intimate course over two days with Dr Vanini, learning from the developer of stratification composite anterior restorations. The weekend starts with a welcome meal on the Thursday evening at the beautiful Albergo Lenno overlooking the lake. A great opportunity to get together and make new friends as well as renewing old acquaintances.

A coach then takes all the delegates up the mountain on Friday morning for the start of the course at the practice in the village of San Fedele, where Dr Vanini is the local dentist. To start the day there is an overview of the rational that led him to develop the technique over 20 years ago, followed by an in-depth review of materials available on the market and their abilities to perform in aesthetic areas, discussing the optical properties and the importance of understanding colour in relation to natural dentition. A simple method for then translating this is clearly explained and the Vanini Colour Map comes

put into practice the technique and experiment with the colour map and materials. Saturday evening is then spent in the heart of the beautiful city of Milan with a group meal at another typical restaurant, the perfect way to round off the experience as a group. The Vanini Masterclass has proved to be a unique course which mixes wonderfully an intense educational content with a relaxed social programme. Many delegates revisit the course and even return independently to the area for family holidays to this beautiful location. Importantly, places are limited for the course and so early bookings are recommended.

Saturday back at the practice consists of more lecture time and generally lively discussion, where Dr Vanini shares his vast experience of restorative dentistry from preparation to finishing of composites with the group. A hands-on session in Dr Vaninis purpose-built facility then gives the group the opportunity to
