Course Syllabus For Math 3

Well, you did it! You ve made it to your last required year of Mathematics! This year we will be using all of your math skills in developing ways to recognize, organize and manipulate data. This is pretty awesome stuff so hold on and enjoy the ride. This class is separated into four units as follows: Units 1: Statistical Analysis Unit 2: Trigonometry of General Triangles and Trigonometric functions Unit 3: Polynomials, Rational and Radical Relationships Unit 4: Mathematical Manipulation of Functions

Objectives: Identify different ways of collecting data and the importance of randomness and a careful design in the research process. Develop further understanding of Trigonometric functions and to triangles and other models. Develop skills in manipulating and understanding polynomials, specifically developing the Distributive Property. Develop skills in interpreting polynomials with relationship to graphs.

Expectations of Students: Give yourself ample opportunity to learn this material. Do not interfere with other classmates' work. Respect the rights of your classmates. Adhere to the rules and policies of "Somebody's High School"

Materials needed for MATH 3: y y y y y Textbook Pencil with eraser Notebook for in-class notes and examples Paper and more paper for assignments Computing device (these will be available to rent from the instructor)

Typical day in class: We will start with an example question from the previous day that each student will work on. After discussing the problem we will move on to some instruction on the day s chapter. If there is enough time students will have the opportunity to work on the homework together in class and be able to ask the instruction any questions regarding the homework.

Homework: Homework will be assigned at least one day per week and will be due the following Monday (or Tuesday when there is no class on Monday) from when it is assigned unless otherwise specified. Friday will be used as a day for you to work and to review material learned in class. You are expected to be respectful to your classmates during this time and be busy doing homework assignments, working on group assignments or creating an atmosphere where other students can work. You will be given the opportunity to work on projects during the school year. Some of these may be in groups but every person will submit an individual report for their project. You will be given the opportunity to work on projects during the school year. Some of these may be in groups but every person will submit an individual report for their project. You will need to do the following: 1. Identify the problem presented or identify a problem which fits the category for the project. 2. Determine the mathematical model that will best represent the situation whose problem you will be solving. 3. Engage in and discuss the methods you used to find a solution to the presented problem. 4. Present your model and the process you used to make your model to the class.

Grades: Grades will be given for homework, quizzes, Unit tests and projects. These are broken down to the following percentages of you grade: Homework 40% Quizzes 10%

Tests 30% Projects 20% The grading scales will be as follows: 93-100% - A 90-92.4 A86-89% - B+ 83-85.4% - B 80-82.4 B76-79% - C+ 73-75.4% -C 70-72.4% - C- 66-69% - D+ 63-65.4% - D 0-62.4% - F

I am looking forward to this year with you all. I promise to do my very best to help you understand and enjoy this class!
