Remember that in the Outcome you will have three lessons to complete three writing tasks (i.e. 1.5hrs for each). You should complete the following writing tasks in your portfolio. a. In response to the prompt and the texts you have read, write a speech from your own perspective (this should be constructed as a persuasive text). You need to identify your intended audience and the occasion at which you see this speech being delivered. Your speech needs to be written in paragraphs with a clear introduction, series of points/arguments and a conclusion and should directly address your audience. For this task you will need to state the intention of your speech what it is you are trying to get across and why. b. In response to the prompt and the texts you have read, write a newspaper feature article (expository text) on multiculturalism in Australia. A feature article is an informative and objective news report used to explore a topic of interest to the community. It would typically explore both sides of an issue. Your feature article should therefore include an overview of the history of immigration in Australia, reasons for immigration, resistance to immigration, the emergence of the idea of multiculturalism, Australias present multicultural mix, and may include comments from migrants and people concerned about migration. Dont forget it needs to address the prompt and link to the concept of Australian Identity. Remember it is a newspaper feature article and should therefore be structured as such with newspaper name, date, headline, by-line, at least one picture with caption etc. c. In response to the prompt and the texts you have read, write an imaginative diary with three entries from the perspective of new migrant to Australia or the child of a migrant. (imaginative text).
