Second Quarter Music Adventures

This quarter all of CPSFCs musicians continued first quarter work on melodic and rhythmic training but with different singing and movement games. Kindergarten explored music education this quarter with themes about fall, family and friends. They had fun with songs and games such as All around the Kitchen, Friends, Turkey on the Go!,Grandma Spectacles,Plenty Fishes Dominica song, Mamas in the Kitchen, Touch the Ground, Who took a Piece of My Pumpkin Pie? !just to name a few. The focus this quarter was on pulse, repertoire, body awareness, phrase, and percussion technique. They sharpened their rhythmic skills while gaining knowledge of song form with special winter songs from Tchaikovskys Nutcracker. First graders brought a great attitude while learning songs with themes based around fall animals, the winter nutcracker suite and friendship. They got a lot of time on the Orff instruments practicing correct mallet technique while reviewing quarter and eighth notes, and vocal preparation with So and Mi songs Gobble Gobble, Walk and Stop, Chase the Squirrel, I ca! play the Bongo, Jim Along Josi. So many activities and songs were enjoyed that enriched their love of music. Second graders explored themes about self confidence, the fall season, and family. They got a lot of practice on the Orff instruments with songs Let us Chase the Squirrel, All Around the Brickyard, and Grandma Grant. They sharpened up on their rhythmic skills with half notes which was an important focus this quarter. Melodic training for them concentrated on So, Mi, La songs. A favorite movement game was Johannes Brahms Hungarian Dance #3 this quarter. Musically Yours, Liz Wells
