Annotated Bibliography Primary Sources: Aldrin, Buzz. Space Missions. Buzz Aldrin. MH, July 2005. Web. 2 January 2012. This website was constructed by Buzz Aldrin, one of the Apollo 11 crew members who walked on the moon. The website had a lot of important information that was so helpful to my project. Buzz explained exactly what it was like before stepping on the moon and after he stepped on the moon. He also explained how the moon felt and what kind of rocks he found on the surface of the moon. The website was helpful because one of the astronauts who actually experienced walking on the moon explained it all in the website. This website showed how as Aldrin stepped on the moon he described that he could see the earth so small. He also described what he was feeling as indescribable and beyond words, as it was an amazing feeling to be on the moon while you know that millions are watching you and you are also watching them. "Apollo 11: On The Moon." LOOK Magazine. 1969: n. page. Print. This magazines text was by The New York Times and photographs by the Apollo 11 astronauts. This magazine had a day-by-day account of the mission as it happened. This was a special edition just for Apollo 11. This magazine was a great source to my project as it had details of day-by-day of the mission. It also showed emotions of what it was like at that time for people to see the first moon landing. On Tuesday, July 15 it was written, Nearly a million people crowded the beaches and towns, peering toward what one onlooker called one big white candle. It also showed why Apollo 11 was such a success when on Tuesday, July 22 it was written, The reunion with Columbia had been bumpy, but good. So was the burn to push the

astronauts home. Now there was only a wait for re-entry. This magazine was also a great source because it was primary, as its only pictures were taken by the astronauts during the mission. This magazine was a great primary source of information and pictures that I referred to consistently. Mackellar, Colin. Apollo 11 The First Men on the Moon. Honeysuckle Creek. Colin Mackellar, 2011. Web. 1 January 2012. This website was one of the most helpful sources because everything was primary. Also, it was all full of witness conversations about Apollo 11. I did not find that in any other source. It had photos taken by the creator of the website of the astronauts. It also had important documents of Apollo 11. It had conversations that the people who helped launch Apollo 11 had. This website helped me a lot on my project because it had a lot of information that I did not find anywhere else. This website benefited my website with the quotes that the witness said, because the website is only limited to 1,200 words where the quotes are not contained in the word limit. Also, the quotes were really meaningful to my website because it had when the astronauts were talking from the moon. Garrett, Russ, and Mathew Ogle. Apollo 11. Spacelog./dev/fort, n.d. Web. 2 January 2012. This website was helpful because it had everything about Apollo 11 and it was all primary. It had all of the conversations that happened between the astronauts and anyone on earth while they were on Apollo 11, which, without a doubt, helped my website. It also had a lot of helpful photos. It also had all 3 astronauts biographies with real quotes of what they said about Apollo 11 during Apollo 11. The quotes that showed what they

felt were really important to my website, considering that I also not only had to write about the relation between my topic and the theme, but also about what the astronauts felt and their backgrounds. This website was really helpful to my project because it had a lot of good primary information. Apollo 11. Mission Report (1971): n. page. Database. 3 January 2012. This was a document of the exact copy of the original mission report. This document provided way too much information, even more than I needed. It provided hardships, how everything was put together, launching, entering the earth, the moon, etc. This document provided me with everything that I found on the websites except for the pictures and quotes. It provided everything in great detail. This document was made by NASA and everything was definitely primary, which was really helpful as it was really hard to find such a document filled with valuable information and all primary. Also, as this document was absolutely important and helpful to my website, it also included some parts that I did not need because it was over filled with information. Apollo 11 Lunar Landing Mission. Press kit. 26.06.1969.n.pag. Database. 3 January 2012. This was a document that had all of the dates that were set before the launching. It had everything that needed to be done before the launching of Apollo 11, which helped me with information about the necessary equipment that had to be ready before the launching and also the necessary training that the astronauts had to go through. It had everything about what the astronauts were supposed to do and also the backup crew. As it was important to recognize the missions details, it was also necessary to recognize the crew that was behind the success. The document had the information of the launch in

detail, which was important to my project. This document really had some valuable information to my project. Secondary Sources: Apollo 11. Astronautix. N.p., n.d. Web. 4 January 2012. This website had the most information that I found about Apollo 11. It had hour by hour starting when Apollo 11 was launching until it safely entered earth, which was important too because it showed me how the astronauts met hardships and how they dealt with them. It also had all of the years starting from 1965 to 1998 and what happened in those years that were relevant to Apollo 11. It also showed the crew behind Apollo 11 and how hard they worked to make it a successful mission. I kept using the information provided in this website on my project, but some I never used. However, this website had great information that I used almost in my entire website. Apollos Historic Lunar Landing." Saturnic. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 Jan 2012. This website provided me with all of the pictures that I needed. This website did not provide me with any information, which was not going to affect my website abundantly because I had many other sources that already provided me with information. It only provided me with pictures, but the pictures were really helpful to my website because I needed a great quantity of pictures. The pictures showed everything about Apollo 11. They showed the training needed before the mission. They also showed the astronauts on the moon collecting rocks and setting up the experiments. In addition, to showing the astronauts in the Apollo 11, on the way back home, landing, and after the mission too. This website provided me with great pictures that were a great benefit to my website.

Bizony, Piers. One Giant Leap. North America: Zenith Press, 2009. Print. One Giant Leap was published on the fortieth anniversary of Apollo 11. This book had some important information about Apollo 11. It had the information that I read before about the crew behind Apollo 11 and the hardships. This book was not a great information source. However, this book was written in a different way compared to the other books that I came across. This book focused more on the inner faith and the emotions that other people had for Apollo 11, especially the astronauts faith and emotions and what they were aiming for. For instance, in 1999 Buzz Aldrin said, Space is not just about having fun. Its also the pursuit of achievement, of service, of challenge. Piers used quotes in this book to show the situations that the astronauts were in during Apollo 11. For example, in 2005 Neil Armstrong said, Our autopilot was taking us into a very large crater about the size of a football stadium, with steep slopes, covered with very large rocks. That was not the kind of place I wanted to try and make the first landing. Also, Piers used quotes showing what the astronauts felt like being part of this amazing experience. Piers showed that when he included this quote of Neil Armstrong said in 2001 in his book, Looking back, we were really very privileged to live in that thin slice of history where we changed how we look at ourselves, and what we might become, and where we might go. So Im very thankful that we got to be a part of that. This book was a great source for my project because of the information and the great quotes that were mentioned. C. Clarke, Arthur. Thirst On The Moon. Canada: Little, Brown and Company, 1970. Print.

This book was a great source, but it had too much information. I did not read it all because it was five-hundred words. Although, it had amazing information. It explained everything about the necessary steps that were taken to make Apollo 11 a successful mission. It also explained about during the mission and after the mission. Arthur explained everything about the mission in detail. The book did not only explain Apollo 11. It explained other mission as Columbia, Apollo 13, Apollo 12 and the disasters that occurred. Arthur used other missions to show why the Apollo 11 crew worked so hard to make Apollo 11 a successful mission. This book also included pictures that I met in other sources before, so the pictures were not a great help to my project. This book was useful to my project because it had so much information. However, some of the information I will never used. Floca, Brian. Moonshot. New York: Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 2009. Print. This book contained basic information. It had some information that I used. For instance, the dates, the distances traveled, etc. This book did not have any pictures that I could have used because they were all hand drawn in the book. Although, what was really useful in this book was the timeline provided. The timeline provided when man was on the moon, lunar liftoff, lunar orbit insertion, entry and landing, and more. The timeline provided details of measurements, dates, and hours when important events happened. This book provided information about every part of the Apollo 11 spacecraft. It provided every parts name, how many hours or minutes it was useful in the mission, and what it was used for. Some parts of this book helped me greatly on my website, but some other sections I never used because the information was too basic. Hehner, Barbara. First On The Moon. New York: Madison Press Books, 1999. Print.

This book was helpful because it gave a summary from when the Apollo 11 crew started training until they reached the moon, which I only met about a couple of times in the other sources. This book had a section where it was about the three Apollo 11 crew members training, which I did not come across a lot. It also had a section where Armstrong said his famous line, Thats one small step for a man.one giant leap for mankind. This section was really important as I needed to know it well because it is my title. I need to know what made him say that line, what time, etc. Barbara explained the sequence of the mission and a lot of details about the mission in her book. This book was helpful because it had some information that I did not meet anywhere else. L. Vogt, Gregory. Apollo Moonwalks: The Amazing Lunar Missions. New Jersey: Enslow Publishers, Inc., 2000. Print. This book explained about all of the Apollo missions. However, it recognized Apollo 11 more often than the other Apollo missions, because Apollo 11 was the most important, as it landed the first human on the moon. The other Apollo missions were just for experiments and discovery, but Apollo 11 was for landing the first humans on the moons surface and for discovery. This book explained preparing for the moons surface, training for the moon, and returning to the moon. The book also recognized the plaque attached to one of Apollo 11s landing legs that read, HERE MEN FROM THE PLANET EARTH FIRST SET FOOT UPON THE MOON JULY 1969 A.D. WE CAME IN PEACE FOR ALL MANKIND. At the end of the book there was a mission summary for Apollo 11 that showed that Apollo 11 collected 46 pounds of rock samples. This book had some excellent information to my website that I definitely used.

Murray, Charles, and Catherine Bly Cox. The Race to the Moon. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1989. Print. This book had too much information as it is four-hundred and seventy pages. This book was published on the twentieth anniversary of Apollo 11. I did not read all of it, but I read some of it. This book was more than interesting. It explained every single thing about before, during, and after Apollo 11. I did not meet this much information about Apollo 11 anywhere else. Charles and Catherine explained every single thing about everything that related to the mission in great details. They explain what the reaction of the NASA team was when they knew that they will land on the moon. An Apollo engineer said, When they said, Lets go to the moon Hell, everybody didnt stand around saying, What am I supposed to do? or Send me a directive, or Whats the procedure for going to the moon? This book also had rare pictures that I never saw before. It had pictures about people that were important and had a great effect on the mission. This book was a great benefit to my website. Unfortunately, I could not include all of the information in my website. Spangenburg, Ray, and Kit Moser. Project Apollo . Canada: Grolier Publishing, 2001. Print. This book explained all of the Apollo missions, it explained the Apollo project. The book had pretty good information about Apollo 11. It also had some really good pictures about Apollo 11. It explained when after a few weeks after awarding NASAs Distinguished Service Award to astronaut Alan Shepard, President John F. Kennedy announced his plan to send astronauts to the moon. The book also had what Buzz Aldrin remembered before the launch when he said, As far as I could see, there were people

Labib9

and cars lining the beaches and highways. The surf was just beginning to rise out of an azure-blue ocean. I could see the massiveness of the Saturn V rocket This book had a lot of useful information that benefited my website. It also had great pictures for that I learned a lot from. Thimmesh, Catherine. Team Moon. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006. Print. This book was helpful because it had everything about Apollo 11, from the team that worked behind it to entering earth. It provided details about the team who helped prepare and launch Apollo 11, the landing, entering the earth, and more. Catherine showed how hard it was to make Apollo 11 launch successfully and what experiments were necessary to do on the moon. It also provided information about the hardships that faced the astronauts. Catherine explained the hardships in great detail that met the astronauts and how the computer stopped working for a while, which was a main hardship. The book also contained a lot of pictures which I referred to. This book was a great source for my project because it covered most of the information about Apollo 11 that I needed.
