Gaps in the 2010 Measles SIA Coverage among Migrant Children in Beijing

by Xiaojiang Hu School of Social Development and Public Policy Beijing Normal University

Abstract: China suffers from a relatively high measles incidence rate due to high population mobility and low vaccination rates among migrants. To eliminate measles in the country, China held a nationwide measles supplementary immunization activity (SIA) in September 2010. This was the largest single public health event in China's history, thus became a testing ground for Chinese public's compliance toward government policies. Through a parental survey conducted in January 2011, this study investigated the factors affected the participation of SIA among migrant children in Beijing. It also provides recommendations to improve the implementation of future public health policies in China.
