I.TITLE- MY BROTHER`S PECULIAR CHICKEN (SHORT STORY) II. AUTHOR- ALEJANDRO R. ROCES (13 July 1924 23 May 2011) was a Filipino author, essayist, dramatist and a National Artist of the Philippines for literature. He served as Secretary of Education from 1961 to 1965, during the term of Philippine President Diosdado Macapagal. Noted for his short stories, the Manila-born Roces was married to Irene Yorston Viola (granddaughter of Maximo Viola), with whom he had a daughter, Elizabeth Roces-Pedrosa. Anding attended elementary and high school at the Ateneo de Manila University, before moving to the Arizona State University for his tertiary education. He graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts and, not long after, attained his M.A. from Far Eastern University back in the Philippines. He has since received honorary doctorates from Tokyo University, Baguio's St. Louis University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and the Ateneo de Manila University. Roces was a captain in the Markings Guerilla during World War II and a columnist in Philippine dailies such as the Manila Chronicleand the Manila Times. He was previously President of the Manila Bulletin and of the CAP College Foundation. III. SETTING- Cornfield, house and cockpits IV. CHARACTERS/CHARACTERIZATION: Kiko- the owner of peculiar chicken and the smart guy who had many ideas how he can prove to his brother that it was a rooster Youngest Brother: the one who said that the chicken was a hen. Mother: the one who always cried when she argued with father Father: the pleasing husband Mr. Cruz: The owner of the largest poultry business in the town and studied poultry raising in UP. Teniente Del Barrio: oldest man in the village. That did not mean that he was that wisest and always carried more weight. V. PLOT A. Exposition One morning kiko and his brother were driving chickens from the cornfield. Suddenly they heard the rapid flapping of wings. And they turned in the direction of the sound and saw two chickens fighting in the far end of the field. They could not see the birds clearly as they were lunging at each other in a whirlwind of feathers and dust. Kiko pointing exactly at one of the chickens and said if he had a rooster like that, he could get rich in the cockpits. B. Initial Action When kiko brother ran over where kiko was and took a good look at the chicken. He said it was a hen and the argument started because they had an opposite think about what kind of chicken was that. If it is a hen or a rooster. And the argument went on the field the whole morning. At noon when they went to eat lunch. They continue argued about it on the way home. When they arrived at their house kiko tied the chicken to a peg. The chicken flapped it wings and then crowed. And kiko said did you hear that?. I suppose you are going to tell me now that hens crow and those carabaos fly. And his brother replied I dont care if it crows or not. That chicken is a hen. And the argument continues. C. RISING And the mother interrupted the conversation of her sons, and asked what the argument about? And they replied what is all about. And the mother looks at the chicken and she said it was a BINABAE. It was a rooster that looks like a hen. That should have the ended of the argument, but father also went out to see the chicken and

refused to what the mother said. And the argument of the mother and father started. Soon the mother was crying. She always cried when she argued with father. D. Climax And because of the argument of his parent kiko had an idea who can settle that question. It was the teniente Del barrio. Kiko and his brother asked the chief if it w2as a male or a female chicken but the chief replied had no specific answer to their question. Kiko and his brother walked away. Kiko had other idea they go to the town to see Mr. Cruz the owner of largest poultry business in town. Kiko asked the question to Mr. cruz if it was a hen or a rooster. Mr. Cruz replied he doesnt know. He never runs across a chicken like that before. Mr. cruz suggested how he can say what kind of chicken is that if he kill it and examined it inside. But kiko refused to the idea of mr. cruz. And on the way home kiko got an idea on the 3rd time. He fight the chicken to the cockpits on Sunday and if it win it is rooster. And his brother approved to his idea. And on the cockpits kiko picked a red rooster it was a killer rooster. It was from texas. His brother suggested doesnt choose that red rooster; he must pick a lesser rooster. But kiko would not listen and refused to his suggestion. E. Falling Action On the centre of the arena. They circled around once and faced each other. He expected his brother chicken die of fright. Instead, a strange thing happened. A love sick expression came into the red rooster eyes. And it did a love dance. And the crowd shouted. Tiope! Tiope! Fixed fight. Then the riot broke out. People tore bamboo benches apart. Kiko and his brother leave through the back way. And had the chicken under his arm. And they run still they lost the mob and be safe. F. Denouement Kikos brother agrees to kiko that it was a rooster and the argument was over. VI. SYNOPSIS One morning kiko and his brother went to the cornfield. Suddenly they heard the rapid flapping of wings. They saw a two chicken fighting in the far end of the field. Kiko like one of the chicken and he catch it. And when kikos brother ran over where he was and took a good look at the chicken, he said that it was a hen. And the argument started between them. The argument went on in the fields the whole morning. And continue in their home. In their house the mother interrupted the argument of his sons. the mother said it was a BINABAE to ended the argument of his sons. But the father refused to what the mother said. And the argument between the mother and father started, then suddenly the mother cry and the father say sorry to the mother. And because of that kiko had an idea who can settle their question. They go to the teniente del barrio. But they didnt get any specific answer to their question. And they walked away. And kiko had another idea they go to the town to see Mr.Cruz and asked the same question. But it also answers the same with teniente del barrio. And on the way home kiko had an idea on the 3rd time to prove to his brother that it was a rooster he fight it on Sunday in the cockpits. And on the cockpits kiko choose the killer rooster the red rooster. And on the centre of the arena. The chicken circled around once and then faced each other. Instead to fight each other a strange thing happened. A love sick expression came into the red rooster eyes. Then it did a love dance. And because of that the riot broke out. Kiko and his brother approved to kiko that it was a rooster and the argument was over. VII. SUBJECT MATTER Appreciation of Gods creation.

X. LANGUAGE I suppose you are going to tell me now that hens crow and that carabaos fly I never run across a chicken like that before XI. PERSONAL EVALUATION Gods create all things with different even if the animals. We must appreciate all things that gods create to us. Gods create things with purpose thats why we must give important to the things around us even if it small or big. Like in the story chicken is the way of god, to become strong the family in the story even if they argued they respect each other. Question to our mind help us to become active emotionally and intellectually.
