Sinking of the U.S.S Maine As we have all heard the U.S.S Maine has sunk in the Havana harbor. 200 seamen were killed. Yes 200 of our sailors are dead Rumors have been heard that the explosions were from bombs. Other rumors include the sailors were careless with the weapons in the ships storage area. Spanish leading soldiers, who destroyed our ship, have denied the causes of their actions. Some of them have led the riots throughout the Havana. The riots have gone against the newspaper offices but they have not targeted American citizens. Its very chaotic and theres no order. The good news is that our people have not been hurt in the riots that have been going on in the Havana. If they were being harmed, they would be violating the treaty weve made with Spain and governments wouldve made some evacuations in the Havana in order to prevent casualties and victims. Our ship was designed to protect its American citizens living on the island. Our ship exploded from a bomb. From the sinking of the ship, President McKinley had asked to with hold judgment. Is this Spains response to war? If it is, we will fight for Cubas liberation. If we win the war, we will liberate Cuba from Spain and there will be another peace treaty where Cuba will independent. Rise up and take action. We must free Cuba from Spain.
