HYDROCARBON POTENTIAL AT THE ONSHORE OF MADURA ISLAND AND DISCUSSION OF REFLECTION SEISMIC METHOD FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HYDROCARBON

CHARACTER THERE M.Aufaristama, Nilam Tiara, Aditya Lesmana Geophysics, Padjadjaran University

Petroleum exploration at the onshore of Madura island was begin in the end of 19th century at Cinlicin, Basaba, Pakacangan and Kertageneh area. Systematic exploration which were applied various modern methods of geology, geochemistry, drilling and geophysics indicates that there is a good hydrocarbon potential on Madura island, in stratigraphic traps which comprise Oligocene-Miocene reef builds ups. The hydrocarbons were generated in the Madura trough, located in the center of the Madura Strait. Source rocks are the thick shale breaks of the Kujung and Ngimbang Formations. Regional seals in the area of Madura and East Java are the shale portions of the Tawun Formation (Middel Miocine) as well as the thick shale breaks of the Kujung and ngimbang Formations. I recommend to make use of every opportunity to perform hydrocarbon exploration activities on Madura island as well as in Madura Strait area.
