BaDuanJin

These exercises are attributed to the famous army general Yueh Fei. He created them hundreds of years ago to keep his troops strong and healthy. Sometimes translated as: The eight pieces of brocade, The eight silk pieces or The eight golden exercises. The martial version can be translated as Ba ( pull ) Duan ( break ) Jin ( Tendons ). Pull and Break the Tendon exersises. These exercises are the equivalent of the Shaolin tendon /sinew changing exercises Yi Jin Jing said to be taught by Bodhidharma at the Shaolin Temple. 1

Hold up the sky and pull from the earth to regulate the triple heater The triple heater, san jiao., put simply the triple heater controls input, processing and output.

Open the bow to the left and right as if shooting a Vulture. This works the lungs and lung meridian. Left and right counts as one posture. Raise up single arm to regulate functions of the stomach and spleen. Good for stomach and spleen. Look back to release the tiredness of the internal organs. Using the eyes too much can exhaust the internal organs. This exercise cures the Five Strains (strains caused by protracted use of the eyes, lying, sitting standing and walking.) and the Seven Impairments Turn your head and tail to extinguish fire in the heart. Calms and releases mental unease from over exertion of the senses. Shaking or Stomping the back to release/ remove all illness. To cure 100 illnesses and seven troubles/ impairments. Tighten your fist and open eyes wide as if angry to enhance Qi and Li. Like an angry Buddha. To clear the energy of liver. Use hand to hold toes to reinforce kidney and waist. For the back and kidney.

These exercises can be performed individually or as a set. Traditionally each exercise is repeated seven or eight times. All exercises that can be done on the left and right side of the body counts as one posture.
