Hydrocarbon Combustion

I. Purpose
To prove that when we burn hydrocarbon compound, the result is H2O and CO2.

II. Apparatus and Material

Test tube Connector Test tube holder Sugar (C11H22O11) CuO Lime water Cobalt paper

III. Procedure
First set up the apparatus and the materials Put one experiment spoon of CuO and 2 experiment spoons of sugar into the test tube And then shake it until it mixed Then put a quarter of lime water into another test tube Then connect the first test tube with the second test tube with the connector

Then heat the first test tube until the lime water turns muddy and bubbles come, dont heat it until the lime water turns yellow After that we can use cobalt paper and heat it until it turns blue Then put it above the first test tube Heat the test tube until the cobalt paper turns pink again

IV. Data Discussion

Our team realize that lime water that turns muddy and a cobalt paper that turns pink from blue are signs that a heated hydrocarbon result are CO2 and H2O

V. Conclusions
When we burn hydrocarbon compound, the re result is CO2 and H2O. We know that the result is CO2 because the lime waters color turned muddy. And we know that the result is H2O because the cobalt paper turned from blue to pink.
