3. Nokia buys Symbian, will open Symbian OS
Symbian, the company behind the popular proprietary mobile/embedded operating system of the same
name, just turned 10, but it won't see its next birthday. Nokia, which had long owned a substantial
portion of Symbian, announced today that it would be buying the rest of the company, 52% for about
&euro264 million, or approximately $410 million. In addition to purchasing Symbian, Nokia says it
will be opensourcing the Symbian operating system.

4. Open source phone "Neo Freerunner" goes massmarket
Openmoko has begun shipping its Linuxbased, open source Neo Freerunner phone to five newly
announced distributors, in Germany, France, and India, says the company. The Neo Freerunner
features an open hardware design, and a Linuxbased operating system that users are free to modify.

5. Motorola ships new Linux phones
Motorola has quietly started shipping three new Linuxbased "PDA" phones. Available now in China,
and also approved by the FCC for use in the U.S., the MotoMing a1600 and a1800 are higherend
versions of the popular a1200, while the a810 adds a lowerend Ming model.

7. CentOS 5.2 is Released
CentOS 5.2 is the free version of the recently released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2. CentOS is the
remastered copy of the original RedHat Linux. we can not redistribute the RedHat Linux as it is
commercial one. But the alternate is CentOS. Everything is same in RedHat and CentOS.
