Of Bountiful__________________________________________________________________ Pulling Medications Overview: This document provides the Medicine Technicians at the Legacy House of Bountiful step by step instructions on how to pull the medications that they administer to the residents. Instructions: 1. Receive shift report from med tech currently on duty. While receiving report take notes to anything vital to your shift, such as when the last PRN medications were given, any phone calls that need to be made, and any changes in the condition of a resident or any changes that have recently been made to medications. 2. Count narcotics. You must count narcotic sheets, narcotic cards and then narcotic pills. All counts must match what is recorded in the narcotic record book before you proceed. 3. Pull medications for each mediation pass. As you pull, add any narcotics or other medications in the bottom drawer not included in the medication strips from the pharmacy. Each strip must have the residents name, time it is to be given and the medications that are in the package. 4. Pull the treatments needed for each pass. 5. Make note of the oxygen saturations, blood sugars or any other vitals that you will need to get during your pass. 6. Sign out the narcotics that you have pulled, by writing the day, time, quantity of the medication, your signature and the number of narcotics left on the corresponding narcotic sheets. 7. Check the medications that you have pulled for accuracy.
