Improving Indonesian Students Performance in the next PISA Mathematics

Abstract

Since 2000, PISA has tested the mathematical literacy of 15 year old students from many countries around the world including Indonesia. The last PISA results, the rank of mathematics for Indonesian students is 61 over 65 countries. Many people shocked with the performance of our students mostly in the level 1 and 2 from all 6 levels. This paper discuss how can we improve the performance of Indonesian students in the next PISA. First, mathematics literacy and PISA framework including context, content, competence and problem format are briefly described. Then, examples of PISA items from level 1 to level 6 are presented. Furthermore, it will be described how to design PISA-like problems Finally, it will be discussed how can performance of students in the next PISA might be increased by using and inserting PISA-like problems both to formative assessment and to UN.
