Allergic rhinitis and asthma commonly occur together.

Both asthma and allergic rhinitis are characterized by inflammation of respiratory mucosa and involve sim ilar inflammatory cells and mediators. Rhinitis acts as an important risk factor for the development of asthma, especially in presence of bronchial hyperrespons iveness. Attention must be paid to prevent the occurence of other comorbidies. A llergic rhinitis and asthma are caused by common allergens. BHR is common to bot h allergic rhinitis and asthma. Some of the important requirements in the manage ment of allergic rhinitis are avoidance of allergens, medications and immunother apy. It has been suggested that treatment of allergic rhinitis may help in reduc ing asthma symptoms. Using antihistamine alone or in combination with an antileu kotrine also reduces asthma symptoms. Montelukast and fexofenadine have been the established treatment options for asthma and allergic rhinitis
