The Aussie Souvenir Toy Company Limited operates several retail stores selling souvenir toy koalas and kangaroos. The toys are advertised as: made in Australia complying with all Australian Safety Regulations safe for babies and children and adults of all ages

The toys are in fact made in an overseas country. In addition, the toys are not safe for babies and small children. The small button eyes on the toys can be easily pulled off, and there is no warning given about this. Discuss and explain whether Aussie Souvenir Toy Company Limited has engaged in any unfair practices (Part V, Division 1) prohibited by the Trade Practices Act. Illustrate your answers with two relevant sections of the Trade Practices Act 1974.

Consider the product life cycle concept (PLC) and answer the questions below. (a) Prepare a labelled graph showing PLC, including both the profit curve and the sales curve. (b) Explain the market situation that a product will face in each stage of the PLC and specify the marketing mix strategies that would be used at each of these stages. (c) Explain one advantage and one limitation of PLC as a guide for developing the most effective marketing mix strategies.

Consider the various issues that marketers work through in setting prices for their products, and answer the questions below. (a) Suggest two situations in which a firm may not have a profit maximisation goal when pricing its products. (b) Suggest one advantage and one disadvantage of cost-plus pricing. (c) Describe three different approaches a firm might use to set prices for customers in different geographic areas.
