For my internship I will be working at the Legacy House of Bountiful. It is an assisted living center. My direct supervisor is Irene Burk; she is the resident care coordinator. At times I will also work with the building director, David Webster; and the marketing director, Deanna Seger. As an intern I will be responsible for editing and revising existing documents to increase the usability of the documents to better serve the staff at Legacy House. I will also be revising and updating the med tech training manual that is already used to train new med techs. I will help create and write building policies that follow state guide lines. About three to four hours a week will be spent in the building with Irene and other members of the staff to create documents and about eight to ten hours a week at home working on projects and documents. Irene is very excited to work with me in creating new documents for this facility. Many of the documents that we have spoken about revising dont serve the needs of the staff. For example when a new resident moves in to the building, the family fills out paper work to help the staff get to know the resident better and know how to best take care of the resident. Irene has found that these questionnaires dont help the staff know the resident and how to best care for the resident when they first move in. Another project that I will be working on is helping to write policies, these policies are required by the state. One of the state requirements is to have a monthly in service to train employees. I will help write the hand outs and quizzes that are given at these monthly meetings. I will also be responsible for revising and updating the current med tech training manual and writing any other training materials that are needed. Irene is very happy to work with me and give me any information that I need to create the projects that I will be working on. She knows about the evaluations that need to be completed and is happy to do that. From my past experience working with her I know that she is very honest and will give a true evaluation of work performance, good or bad.
