11

Challenges of New Expectations

The K - 12 expectations fill a book that is 79 pages long! Transitioning to new expectations has created gaps (i.e. 3rd and 4th grade Michigan expectations; 6th and 7th grade World History expectations) Lack of materials especially for Michigan studies and high school World History Testing old standards; Teaching new expectations
12

Positives About New Expectations

High School World History will have been taught at Weston for three years prior to first assessment in Spring 2011 Weston has 2009 2010 to assure curriculum alignment prior to assessment MDE has identified expectations that could be assessed annually New Expectations are more focused making it easier to understand what might be assessed
13

So What does the Data Show?

Standardized data is only available in the 6th, 9th and 11th grades Current year data tested the old content expectations but shows a significant gap between Weston students and the state average score for social studies High School average test scores have dropped over the last 3 years
