Chinese Your Kindergarten

Dear parents, Welcome your child back to the Chinese class. This week is another shorter week after a long Spring Break. Inevitably, review, review and review at the beginning of the week. :) Listening/Speaking: To enhance the kids listening and speaking skills, I tried to make my

conversation with them more natural and less conned to the words and sentences we learnt. I also tried to create more opportunities for kids to talk and learn something just by using it. For example, to earn a point on our roar chart, kids needed to tell me I helped xxx in Chinese. Deliberately, I enlarged the vocabulary I used when recording the recent show and tell and talked faster. Starting from Wednesday, we learnt eight positional words. These words included up, down, front, back, right, left, inside and outside. We learnt them in movements and sometimes hard ones such as putting bean bags on their belly buttons or backs. Guess what, kids

lied down on the carpet so that the bean bags stayed on their belly buttons for as long as they wanted. :) The sentences that accompanied our learning were Go straight. Turn right. and Turn left. We set up a maze on the carpet and a blindfolded kid needed to walk to a chosen destination by listening to the directions of the

rest of the class. We had some fun. In addition, we learnt a new song called The Bus because it contained some positional words. It was interesting that by watching the video and listening to the song, kids gured out its meaning themselves. We were reluctant to say goodbye to Gerald and Piggie and started some simpler stories by the same author. Hopefully I can nd some other interesting stories (that I can read in Chinese) to satisfy their thirst. :) Reading: We continued our learning of the ve action verbs. To review family members and animals, we made a word web by classifying them into the actions they can make. Math: Over the past few weeks, we were exposed to writing addition sentences within 10. Such an exposure enabled us to complete a pyramid challenge by adding numbers. During this process, kids helped each other and was told that I was the last person that they could ask for help. Chinese culture: We continued to learn how to do eye exercise this week. Materials: On our website, the sections of songs, show and tell and words in resources have been updated. This weeks show and tell will be uploaded over the weekend. Homework: You may nd a homework sheet in the folder and a white poster board. Please help your child to create a timeline with life events for each year (refer to the example below). The sentence pattern is I can ____ at _ years old. The two sentences provided are I can walk at _ years old. and I can speak Chinese at _ years old. Please help your child do the followings: 1) Identify one event for age 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and/or 6 respectively. 2) Describe the event with the sentence I can ____ at _ years old.. 3) Complete the sentence (refer to homework instructions). 4) Find a picture or draw a picture for each event. 5) Draw a timeline on the poster. 6) Cut and glue words and pictures/drawings on the poster. Hope you have a great weekend!
