CHAPTER 1

Introduction
In this project, we will implement smart card in security system for computers. A smart card is a pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuit. A smart card contains volatile memory and microprocessor components. The card is made of plastic. Smart cards can provide identification, authentication, data storage and application processing. The idea of this project is to enhance the security system for computer from being rig by anonymous users. Moreover, by using smart card, authorized user can easily access the computer without memorizing the password for that particular computer. Furthermore, any users that access into the particular computer will be recorded through the smart card ID. Thus, gain information on what activities that the user has done.

Objective
Enable a user to logon on a computer with an easy way without typing any password. Moreover, the disadvantage of password is that it probably can be detected by someone else, thus, it can be change by an irresponsible person. Hence, enhance the security system of the computer.

Problem Statement
The reason for us to come out and do this project is because users, especially anonymous users, access the computers and doing activities that should not be done. Therefore, we came up with this idea to enhance the computer security access by using the smart card device. The plastic card in which the chip is embedded is fairly flexible, and the larger the chip, the higher the probability that normal use could damage it. Cards are often carried in wallets or pockets, which is a harsh environment for a chip. These are the common problems for smart card users.

Project Scope Student 1

- Install the smart card security device into computer. - Troubleshoot of any upcoming problems.

Project Scope Student 2

- Testing the smart card device. - Configure the settings of the smart card device.

Expected Outcome
In this project, the smart card should be able to function properly and can be implement with computers. The configurations, settings, and the running progress should be able to interact with the smart card that will be used later on. Furthermore, the level of security of the smart card can intend to be used for the computer security system. Hence, enhance the security system of the computers.
