The fact that a majority of publications are doing stories/articles suiting the US/Israeli interests and several people were quick enough to pass the blame on he arrest of Mohammad Ahmad Kazmi in the Israeli to Iran the moment the blast on the Israeli car occurred in India, embassy car bomb blast case is being shown by media it is the need of the hour that Indian Government should make as just another arrest of a terror-planner. holy because it is the land of the birth of the last Prophet (Muhammad) and of the place of revelation of the Qur'an; if Syria is holy because it is the land of the Prophets of Bani Israel; if Egypt is holy because of its association with Prophet Moses; if Iraq is holy because of its association with Prophet Abraham; then without doubt India too is holy because of its association with Prophet Adam and for being the place of Gods first revelation. It is the first land of prophetsIt is also holy because, according to a report by the historian Tabarani, it is the land of Prophet Seth [Shees] who led the funeral prayers of Prophet Adam. It is also holy because, according to a report by Ibn Abbas, it is the land of Prophet Noah. Many pious and holy men have also stated (based on their internal illumination) that India is home to remnants and graves of several prophets. Qari Tayyib Qasmi further quoted Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanautwi, the founder of Darul Uloom Deoband, to bolster his assertions: Maulana Qasim Nanautwi says in his writings that one should never insult or denigrate the holy personalities of Hindus like Rama or Shri KrishnaIt is possible that these personages might have been persons of truth, warners, and guides of their time. It is possible that they might have come to India with the true teachings but that their message had been corrupted due to the ravages of time. One may also look at the collected works of Maulana Shams Naveed Usmani, who was born in Deoband but educated elsewhere, to know the many commonalities between Islam and
Hinduism. He had argued that the Hindu concept of sanatan dharm or eternal religion, if understood as submission to the one God, is the same as the concept of Islam as Al Deen AlQayyim, which too means the eternal religion. His writings are replete with such parallels. Apart from such scholarly writings, Indian Muslims have produced voluminous poetry in Urdu and Persian in praise of Hindu personalities whom they accept as pious personalities but not as gods. There is a long list of poets who have accommodated these sages in their writings without compromising the Islamic beliefs. These include Shah Muhammad Kazim Qalandar, Seemab Akbarabadi, and of course the great nationalist and freedom fighter Maulana Hasrat Mohani and Muhammad Iqbal. Mohsin Kakorwi created a completely new genre of Islamic poetry by using Indian metaphors. This is well captured in a couplet from a poem written in praise of Prophet Muhammad: Kahen Jibreel Isharey Sey Ke Haan Bismillah Simt Kashi Say Chala Janib Mathura Badal (Gabriel signalled Yes, In the Name of Allah/In the direction of Mathura went the cloud from Kashi) Such deep feelings for their motherland abound in Indian Muslim psyche, their literature, and in their day to day life. For them India is not only their motherland but also one of their holy lands. Would Subramanian Swamy care to find out their true feelings and give them the benefit of doubt instead of indulging in hateful rhetoric?
he West Bengal government has a lot to answer for in the Park Street rape case which was earlier ridiculed by it, but the CCTV footage from the hotel provided vital clues about the attack and showed the victim was indeed telling the truth. Unfortunately, the victim was first mocked by Madan Mitra, a minister who instead of offering help questioned the integrity and character of the victim. Then the Chief Minister rubbished her complaint, saying it was a conspiracy to slander her government. But soon it turned out that the victim was telling the truth. The police later confirmed that the lady had been indeed raped at gunpoint as she had claimed. The big issue is will the Mamata Banerjee government apologize for the insult to injury and disgrace this woman has been subjected to? Will the Mamata Banerjee government now apologize for victimizing the sufferer? Although, The Honble Supreme Court has very strong views on this issues and in regard to a similar incident in 2000 it noted that In Indian society, any girl or woman would not make such allegations (of rape) against a person as she is fully aware of the repercussions flowing from it... she would be looked at by society with contempt for the rest of her life. Prior to this landmark judgment delivered in the State of Karnataka vs. Manjanna case, doctors examined victims of rape only after they received a request from the police. For this to happen, the victim had to gather the guts to register a complaint against the accused in a police station of the right jurisdiction. There could be undue delays in this, considering the social obstacles that women face in coming out in the open against the accused. Further, a woman is often condemned just for being the victim of rape. Yet, society often blames the victim for the delay in complaining about the offence, giving less significance to the monstrous act of the accused and the mental and physical ordeal that the woman has to go through and face the stigma involved before registering a complaint. Only after this delayed registering of a complaint against the accused will the police investigation be initiated and an application forwarded to a doctor at the government hospital asking for a medical examination of the victim. On many occasions if the victim reports directly to the hospital, she would be denied this crucial medico-legal examination and the medical confirmation of this heinous act lost because the police had not made a demand for it. By the time the police requisition could be arranged, there would be considerable delay and much of the medical evidence lost or could not be collected. This results in the release of the accused in many cases, due to the lack of

evidence and the benefit of doubt is awarded to the accused. In its 2000 judgment, the Supreme Court recognized that the rape victims need for a medical check-up constituted a medicolegal emergency. Second, it was also the right of the victim of rape to approach medical services first before legally registering a complaint in a police station. The hospital is obliged to examine her right away; they could always consequently commence a police complaint on the demand of the victim. As a result of this landmark judgment, the doctor or hospital is now required to examine a victim of rape if she reports to the hospital directly, and willingly, without a police request. The judgment recognizes the three ways by which a hospital may receive a victim of rape: voluntary reporting by the victim; reporting on requisition by the police, and reporting on requisition by the Court. Unfortunately this information has not been disseminated to all doctors, and the majority of them still insist on a police requisition before examining a rape victim. Apart from this the Supreme Court in 1994 also directed the NCW to develop a scheme and set up a Criminal Injuries Compensation Board to provide financial assistance to victims of rape. The commission initiated the process of drafting the scheme in 1995. In 2005, the government provided the commission with guidelines on planning a procedure to disburse funds to victims. The scheme provides for setting up of a National Criminal Injuries Relief and Rehabilitation Board which will have counterparts in each state. Under the scheme, the victim is entitled to restorative financial support adding up to Rs 2-3 lakh. According to it, victims who lodged an FIR after the scheme comes into effect will be eligible for compensation from the government. ut Mamata Banerjee seems to be opposing almost anything and everything. Shes still behaving like an activist, as a leader of the opposition battling a non-existent enemy. Suddenly, having defeated her enemy-of-long, shes without a target to attack. It seems Mamata has suddenly become unsure of her purpose in life - running amok in a maddening and thrilling start to her tenure, from announcing new trains despite budgetary constraints to painting the city white and blue, misreading her mandate. What Mamata needs to show is a more responsible and tolerant face. Its after many years that the state government in West Bengal is from the same combination as the central government. She should use this to her advantage. Its absolutely fine for her as CM to be upset about a few things, but she should not make this a habitual routine and desist from making irresponsible
statements. She should instead exploit the Congresss numerical weakness at the Centre to get more funds for the state and more projects approved but she shouldnt push the centre so hard that they start looking for alternate associates. If Mamata now joins the opposition, her decline in WB would be inevitable. It is a delicate and tentative time for the Congress at the centre as well. But the difference is that the Congress realizes its situation and is playing it calmly till its necessary while Mamata isnt and she continues to throw her weight around. The Congress is clearly playing a waiting game to opt for a more consistent friend in Samajwadi Party. If that happens, Mamata will suddenly find herself booted out from her position of strength. Whos she going to throw a tantrum against then? Mamata must understand that the mandate was against the Left misrule and not in favour of TMC and she has risen to power by default, but she could take advantage of the situation by good governance, perseverance, impartiality and integrity. However, shes just continuing in the same vein that the Left used to do, making herself somewhat synonymous to the Left. The people of Bengal rejected the Left ideology and desire a very different broth, not one that is a little less callous version of the same they were served for over three decades. Bengal today is dying for financial liberalization. They want industries so that they can get jobs in their own state. They want private investment to pour in. Even urban communication in Kolkata is shoddier than even in Mumbai. With a high number of pre-historic Ambassador cars in Kolkata, a visitor to the city would think he has been transported back in time. People here have voted for paribartan the much need change. But they are getting dissatisfied so soon. And in the meantime, if the Left becomes even slightly sensible though thats a near impracticality (as of now) Mamatas dream run will be over even before her term ends. But the problem of absolute power is that it makes one more vulnerable. Being an ex-Congressperson, she must be aware how Rajiv Gandhi dissipated away the 411 seats he got in the 1984 elections. Thats what absolute power does. It makes politicians arrogant, shortsighted and in limbo at times. Mamatas 184 seats are almost 2/3rds of the assembly. The state is already feeling financial pangs. Any exodus of senior government officials to go on central government deputation will be another blow. The situation is somewhat unstable in the light of the Park Street rape case where a senior police officer stood by the victim even as many others, including the chief minister, were suspicious about the complainants statement.

Believe it or not
New Delhi: According to a reliable source, Indias Intelligence Bureau (IB) is resisting pressures from the Israeli espionage agency Mossad, whose team is camping in Delhi to participate in the investigations, to direct the investigations to the way wanted by Israel since minutes after the bomb blast in the Israeli diplomats car, i.e., to implicate Iran. Relations between the two teams are so bad now that heated arguments have taken place between the two in which words like Shut up! -- You shut up! have been exchanged. Israel is continuing the pressure by systematically leaking lies from Tel Aviv to somehow implicate Iran while India has refused to budge so far. India has officially said that there is no proof to suggest Irans involvement. New Delhi has also sent a commercial delegation to Iran to explore bilateral trade which will multiply following Irans acceptance to sell oil against rupees. Another bolt on the head of the Israelis was the Indian Defence Ministrys decision last week to blacklist Israels top military manufacturer, Israeli Military Industries, for ten years due to its indulgence in bribing Indian officials to secure deals.
Police across India communalised, frames Muslims in fake terror cases: Bhushan
New Delhi: Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan on 27 February said that police across the country were communalised. Bhushan highlighted the fact that in the present scenario there was nothing which could happen to a police officer if s/he illegally acts and fabricates terror cases against the innocents. It costs nothing for the police to fabricate evidence and file a false chargesheet against an innocent person. In virtually no case, and a vast majority of cases the court does not take the next step of ordering the criminal prosecution, immediate suspension, dismissal and prosecution of that police officer, he added. Calling for the need a punishment mechanism for the officers who consciously fabricate cases against innocent youths, the eminent human rights lawyer demanded that a police complaint authority should be set up in states, to whom people can complain and who have the power to order the dismissal of the police officer. Police throughout the country are clearly communalised. Narendra Modi has communalised the entire state through his propaganda campaigns, said Bhushan, speaking after a documentary film show here to mark 10 years of communal riots in Gujarat. This anti-Muslim propaganda is responsible for the prejudiced attitude of the Indian Middle class towards a normal ordinary Muslim on the street, he said. Lot of ordinary people who are otherwise perfectly good have developed a prejudice because of anti-Muslim propaganda by people like Modi and others who have been in the government for so long because of RSS, Bhushan said. In August 2008 peoples tribunal, we saw a trend that police across the country systematically frame Muslims in terror investigations when they cant find the culprits. In such cases, they pick up anyone around whom a credible story could be spun, said Bhushan. Cautioning that such victimisation could even result in wrong convictions if the victim did not have resources to fight for justice, he said that even if acquitted, the victims lose five to six years of their lives fighting the case and suffer from social stigma of being labelled a terrorist. He blamed sections of media for sensationalising such stories. Bhushan also criticized the media in strong terms saying that the media has lost its conscience and ethics and unfortunately the media works hand in gloves with the police in these cases of grave injustice done by the police. Some of the terrorism could also be result of such false victimisation. It wont be surprising to say two percent of these victims turn to terrorism due to such atrocities, Bhushan added. The documentary, After the Storm, directed by Shubhradeep Chakravorty, portrays the hardships faced by seven Muslims who were wrongly accused of different terror incidents in the country, even after they were acquitted. Such documentaries put a human face to such stories and help create empathy in the public for such people, said Bhushan. Bhushan demanded a high powered commission to look into all terror cases, We should have a very high powered commission of inquiry to look into pending cases, the Ahmedabad blast cases, where nearly 60 people are in prison for the last so many years.

Shining India!
New Delhi: Half of the countrys population still defecates in the open even after 60 years of independence, the Planning Commission has admitted. Faced with the harsh reality of open defecation by a vast majority, affecting the dignity of women and girls the most, the plan panel is revamping its strategy and is set to raise spending on the government programme on sanitation and drinking water. Around 60 crore people defecate in the open, plan panel member Mihir Shah said, admitting to the need for a change in governments approach. The panel is of the view that toilets should be constructed for hamlets too, apart from aiming to build toilets for households. The thinking is also to build bathrooms along with toilets. Shah said governments existing Nirmal Gram Puraskar to award villages that promote hygiene and sanitation undermine the demand-driven sanitation programme. He hinted at a dramatically higher plan allocation for sanitation. Under its flagship Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) launched in 1991, the government had set a target of universal household sanitation coverage by 2012 which is unlikely to be achieved. While the scheme is being implemented in 606 districts of 30 states and UTs, a recent review report said 22 states will not be able to meet the target. In fact, only five states - Tripura, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Mizoram - will be able to meet the 2012 target, according to a report A Decade of the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) of World Banks Water and Sanitation Programme and the rural development ministry. The report found an increase in coverage from 21% in 2001 to over 65%. In the 1990s, only one in five rural households had access to a toilet. It also ranked the performance of states on a scale of 100. Only three states - Kerala, West Bengal and Maharashtra - have shown a score of above 75. Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Sikkim, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Tamil Nadu were among the states whose performance was above average (50-74). Rest of the states were ranked below average (below 25) (articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

When BJP made Kalam president of India, another slogan was written on the walls of Ahmedabad: they give Abdul Latif, we gave Abdul Kalam. If your democracy does not provide this simplest opportunity, then it is hell. Such hells produce bloodsoaking trauma centres and traumatize the most innocents on earth. Twenty five years on, not a single Gujarati writer has expressed remorse for selection of Keka as Sahitya Parishads president in 1985, and we are expecting such gesture from an illiterate, drunkard of Chamanpura! It is pitiable pathology of our polity. Massive efforts are on to camouflage the suffering and sorrow, anguish and agony of masses under enchanted, captivated and enthralled mist of masti and manoranjan. When the survivors were running from pillar to post to get justice denied and delayed, the rulers were inventing new avenues of amusements, recreations and celebrations of their victory. Only one phrase suits their efforts - from carnage to carnival. It was exactly a carnival of cannibals, not silently whispering on their successful carnage, but trumpeting big drums given by Radias, Tatas, Adanis and Ambanis. Rs. 2500 crore strong Nirma group of companies owner Mr. Karsan Patel, the richest person of Gujarat, was allotted the most fertile land of Mahuva for the construction of a cement plant. (In his lesser known village Ruppur, when Karsans relatives usurped graveyard of Dalits in 2003, the advocate general of the state appeared on behalf of Patels to defend the respondents in a writ petition filed by Dalits. Ruppur is constituency of Anandi Patel, the in-charge of Modis Sadbhavna Celebrations). The cannibalistic celebration of carnivals is creating a self-deceiving atmosphere where aggrieved may find solace in musical melodies. Unfortunately we have creamy celebrities, not lofty leaders. We have celebrities, wherever they go, they immediately attract attentions of bite-hungry media. We have celebrities addicted of rummaging their names in daily newspapers. We have celebrities who never dare to thrash rogue media which has precipitated and polarized entire Gujarati masses. Can anyone forget that news item published on the day after Godhara tragedy in one of the leading Gujarati dailies on Muslims cutting breasts of Hindu girls. The rapes of Muslim women were the only result. Can our law punish that vernacular daily? (Our organizations are fighting two such cases in courts). They had done it in 1981 against Dalits. They have done it against Muslims in 2002. I called for political encounter of Mr. Narendra Modi in a recently held convention in Godhara. Some misconstrued it as a support to Congress. The fact is Congress has been taking soft Hindutva line after Godhara. In coming legislative election Congress may win or may not. Can Congress fulfil political aspirations of minorities? Can Congress give adequate representation to Muslims? This is the question we must ask ourselves and Congress. In 1981 there were nine Muslim MLAs, at present they are only four. Merely defeating BJP cannot be our goal.

Hindutva terror group busted, 5 arrested for Haryana blasts New Delhi: The Punjab Police has busted a
Hindutva terror group by arresting five members including the chief of the outfit in connection with five terror blasts that took place in different parts of Haryana including a mosque, a madrasa and a slaughterhouse in 2009. One person was killed in those blasts. The Patiala Police on 16 February arrested five persons in connection with the series of bomb blasts that rocked various districts of Haryana in 2009. The accused include one Sagar (alias Azad), chief of the Azad Organization under which these people were working. The Patiala SSP DP Singh told newsmen on 16 Feb that four others have been identified as Sham Niwas, Gurnam Singh, Parveen Sharma and Rajesh Kumar, all residents of Haryana, said a news report published in The Tribune daily on 17 February. They allegedly carried out the blasts including one at a mosque to create communal tension According to the report, the Punjab Police is now in touch with the Haryana Police to ascertain their role in other crimes and also to ascertain if they had any affiliation with Hindu extremist groups. The police said Sagar was the kingpin who had taken credit for the blasts by approaching various media houses a day after the blasts. According to Patiala police, the accused planted two bombs in a slaughterhouse in Satakpuri village of Mewat district in 2009. They also planted bombs in mosques in Malab village of Mewat and Jind, besides conducting a blast in Safido. The police said that during questioning, they admitted their role in those blasts. During the interrogation, the police came to know that Rajesh Kumar, one of the gang members now arrested, worked in a stonecrushing company and he used to procure explosives for the blasts. In December 2010, Mewat police had arrested one Swami Anand Mitranand in connection with the Gurukul Ashram blast in village Bhadas near Nuh, the district headquarters of Mewat. The blast had taken place on 23 September last year, a week before the much-awaited Lucknow special court verdict on Babri Masjid title suit. Two rooms of the Gurukul were damaged due to the blast, but no one was injured. Swami was a teacher in the Gurukul. Koi batlaao kay ham batlaayen kiya? LK Advanis comment on the VHP during his recent visit to Gujarat to participate in a programme on Morarji Desai organised by Madhukeshwar who was with him during his nationwide anti corruption Yatra might have surprised the VHP. In a reply to a question by a reporter at Surat airport about his participation in a programme organised by the VHP in Valsad, Advani said yeh VHP Kya hai. He also did not reply to the question of Narendra Modi being a prime ministerial candidate of the BJP and on the issue of defiance of former Karnataka chief minister Yedurappa.

A decade has paased since 2002 genocide, yet thousands of refugees are still in refugee camps unable to go back to their homes and lands in various villages. Even today they are deterred from returning to their homes by stringent and humiliating conditions. In most of the riots, it does not take more than a few months for refugees to return. Thus the Sadbhavna mission was a great joke just to rehabilitate the image of Narendra Modi at state cost. Secularism in all BJPruled states has been weakened as in M.P. where Hindu rituals like Surya Namaskar are being introduced in government schools. Communal riots alone should not alarm us but deeper communalization of state machinery should also engage our attention. A concerted educational campaign for secular awareness needs to be built up warning people of the dangers of Hindutva and majoritarian fascism. Our educational system needs to be thoroughly secularized. Spread of fascism in the form of communalism is far more dangerous than communal violence. in various places including Mt. Abu for six months. The whole thing was produced in one of the Tehelka issue on the eve of 2007 elections of Gujarat Assembly. Even the then BJP Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee advised Narendra Modi to remember his rajya dharma which itself is an indirect indictment of Modis failure to control the situation, if not his involvement. Even Raghavan of SIT who allegedly gave Narendra Modi a clean chit had to admit Modis acts of omission and commission which by themselves amount to serious indictment of Modi and his administration. It is no a clean chit by any stretch of imagination. Gujarat riots of 2002 are a serious blot on the face of secular India. Every riot, big or small, is a blot on the secular character but Gujarat particularly meant much more. Nothing of the kind had happened before with open state complicity. Never had any chief minister justified such unprecedented communal violence as Narendra Modi did and called it reaction to action (i.e., Gujarat violence against Muslims was reaction to their action in Godhra train burning). Here firstly Narendra Modi assumed, without any proof whatsoever, that the S6 compartment was set to fire by the Muslims of Godhra (which no responsible chief minister could do before even an iota of prima facie evidence was available) and here Mr. Modi made this statement in his public speech. Secondly, the Modi Government fully backed the BJP-VHP call for bandh on 28th Feb and even permitted dead bodies of karsevaks being taken out in procession which was a direct provocation to commit violence. Even a police officer, let alone a chief minister, will not allow such a thing especially when situation is so tense. This also shows that state did not mind violence and proves state complicity. And the fact that communal violence directly helped chief minister itself is enough evidence to show he not only looked the other way when such unprecedented violence was taking place but also facilitated it. A study of the pattern of voting in Gujarat of elections of 2002 clearly showed that wherever communal violence took place on large scale, BJP won with great margins (in North and Central Gujarat) and wherever violence did not take place either BJP lost or won with very narrow margins. It clearly shows why and by whom riots were organized. Just before 2002, BJP was badly losing all elections from Zilla Panchayat to Assembly by-elections and it was feared that the BJP would certainly lose 2002 assembly elections in Gujarat. It was this unprecedented carnage that enabled the BJP to win elections by polarizing the Hindu votes across the castes and made the voters forget all the frauds and scandals which had rocked Gujarat in previous years. Mr. Patel, the chief minister during whose regime all the scandals had taken place, was replaced by Narendra Modi who was known for his hard Hindutva line and who could use Hindutva card to make people forget those economic scandals. Thus we see that by organizing a massacre of Muslims he not only washed out BJP sins of corruption and scandals in Gujarat but also became an important Hindutva icon in India. And of course he also came to be hated by minorities and secular forces. As happens, he also developed strong dictatorial tendencies and came to be feared by all including Hindutva forces. He successfully suppressed free debate on any issue in Gujarat assembly. No one dared raise voice against him. But now that he is being berated by courts and all his sins are being exposed he is feared much less. Here I would like to throw some light as to how Gujarat carnage of 2002 was different from other communal riots in independent India and what lessons do we learn from Gujarat and how can we prevent Gujarat-like massacre happening again? These are two important questions. Gujarat carnage was much different from all other incidents of communal riots since Jabalpur riots in 1961. First of all, what happened was not at all communal riot but an organized carnage, some calling it even genocide. It was not a fight between two communities but a well-organised attack by a section of the majority community with the full help from the entire state machinery. Some cabinet ministers were sitting in police control rooms to direct the riots. Never before
such a thing has happened. We have instances of government authorities looking the other way but never of lending a helping hand. Not only did the state machinery play a crucial role in aiding and abetting the rioters but also played an important role in the post-violence period sensing the mood of Narendra Modi. Relief was organized half-heartedly and an attempt was made to wind it up within a month and when some people pointed out for continued relief as vast numbers of people were still not able to return to their homes and hearths, Modi said should I run baby-producing factories? He said this since few women were pregnant at the time of massacre and gave birth to babies in relief camps. The compensation paid to the victims was extremely meagre. Some people were paid as little as Rs. 500 for their house demolished or shop completely looted and those who refused to accept were threatened with arrest on fake charges. They were made to write that it is in full and final payment for damages suffered. Even such payments were not made and recently the Gujarat High Court lambasted Modi Government for non-payment of compensation to hundreds of (Muslim) religious places damaged during the riots. Also more than 300 riot cases were closed claiming there was no evidence available and it was only the Supreme Court which ordered them re-opened. And it was in Gujarat that certain cases like the Best Bakery case was tried outside Gujarat (in Mumbai) as judicial machinery was also communalized. Most of the prosecutors appointed by the state belonged to, or were activists of, VHP. The witnesses had no protection and they refused to give evidence as a result. It was only in Gujarat that the Supreme Court had to appoint Special Investigation Team (SIT) to make inquiries into certain cases like Gulbarg Society case in which 63 persons including a former M.P. were killed. Never before such a thing happened in any other riot including Mumbai riots of 1992-93. What lessons do we learn from Gujarat genocide of 2002? The fascist forces in India find it easy to misuse religion for bringing fascism which BJP almost succeeded in Gujarat which is referred as Hindutva laboratory. It is highly necessary to fight Hindutva in India through strengthening secularism and secular forces. In Gujarat though communal forces have weakened to some extent but it is yet a small achievement. A great deal of concerted effort needs to be made to take on this challenge. In Gujarat even the Congress is nothing more than a practitioner of soft Hindutva while the Congress high command is unable to do anything about this. Secularism in all BJP-ruled states has been weakened as in M.P. where Hindu rituals like Surya Namaskar are being introduced in government schools. (Secular Perspective)
The 83 relief colonies that were built after the riots are almost all located in Muslim majority areas. Fifteen of them are situated in Ahmedabad and the support they receive from the state government is negligible. The government did next to nothing for creating awareness about social security schemes meant for Internally Displaced People (IDP), said Khatunben, a resident of Citizen Nagar, a relief colony in Ahmedabad. The houses in which the displaced people have been living since 2002 have not been formally transferred to their names. There has also been a sharp decline in the earnings of almost every displaced individual. The survey has revealed that the average annual income of displaced Muslims in Ahmedabad has come down by 31% as compared to their income before the riots. (dnaindia.com)

The AIMMM is extremely seriously alarmed at the fresh wave of arrests of innocent Muslim youth on mere suspicion and without any proof from areas like Delhis Okhla locality and certain areas of Bihar and Jharkhand, amid serious discord within Delhi Police and Maharashtra ATS over persons sought to be arrested while NIA has pronounced youths arrested by Delhi Police as innocent; yet the spate of arrests on mere suspicion continues. The AIMMM warns the central and state governments not to create an artificial environment conducive to spread discontent and disaffection among the community which has serious doubts about this renewed drive.
step the 4.5% reservation offered by the Central government to minority OBCs which means the share available to the Muslim OBCs out of this quota will be much less as other minorities too are included in this. The AIMMM urges the central government to demarcate and disaggregate the shares of various minorities in this and any other scheme for minorities according to their ratio in each state. The AIMMM urges the central government to include Muslim and Christian Dalits at the earliest in the SC/ST quota, in order to remove a historic injustice. Mishra Commission report The AIMMM urges the central government to quickly move to the urgent and full implementation of the 10% reservation for Muslims recommended by Mishra Commission and urges the government to table it in Parliament without any further delay. The AIMMM reiterates that the available reservation should be allocated on the basis of backwardness alone with no share for the creamy layer and well-off sections of the Muslim minority. Gujarat The AIMMM registers its dismay that 10 years down the line, the victims of the state-sponsored pogroms of 2002 are yet to receive justice due to the delaying and obfuscating tactics of the Modi Government. The victims have not been properly rehabilitated and around 60,000 of them are still displaced and continue to live as refugees in their own homeland which is a matter of shame for the whole country. The central government should take the initiative to rehabilitate them inside and outside Gujarat like the migrants of Kashmir. Moreover, the origin of the fire that burnt coach no. 6 of Sabarmati Express is yet to be conclusively probed and established. It is time for the central investigative agencies to go into the origin and reality of this fire in S-6. AIMMM salutes brave people like Zakia Jafari, Teesta Setalvad, Sanjiv Bhatt, Sreekumar and Mukul Sinha who continue the struggle for the victims of Gujarat. Jammu & Kashmir AIMMM, after detailed deliberation on the situation in the J&K, is of the view that the present apparent peace is managed by oppression. Murder by security personnel is still treated as accidental firing. The commission of enquiry ordered by the court after the murder of as many as 118 innocent youth in 2010 is yet to submit its report. Political prisoners continue to be behind bars in and outside the state. Both the Union and state governments lack sincerity as they never bothered to implement the recommendations of the five working groups appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Even the recent report of Interlocutors has not been made public so far. AIMMM demands the urgent release of political prisoners, implementation of the recommendations of the aforesaid five working groups and restoration of Autonomy as recommended by Justice Saghir Ahmed. AIMMM also stresses the immediate withdrawal of AFSPA from whole of Jammu & Kashmir and Manipur where it has been misused to the hilt and has created a climate of fear for ordinary people and impunity for the men in uniform who are free to violate rights and kill innocents at will. The thousands of unnamed graves in Kashmir are a living testimony to this national disgrace. There is no point for AFPSA to remain in force in J&K where hardly 200 militants remain according to official sources. Fresh attacks on Muslim youth in the name of terrorism The AIMMM is extremely seriously alarmed at the fresh wave of arrests of innocent Muslim youth on mere suspicion and without any proof from areas like Delhis Okhla locality and certain areas of Bihar and Jharkhand, amid serious discord within Delhi Police and Maharashtra ATS over persons sought to be arrested while NIA has pronounced youths arrested by Delhi Police as innocent; yet the spate of arrests on mere suspicion continues. The AIMMM warns the central and state governments not to create an artificial environment conducive to spread discontent and disaffection among the community which has serious doubts about this renewed drive. At the same time, AIMMM fails to understand why saffron terrorists are being treated with kid gloves and some of their masterminds mentioned by name in Malegaon and Ajmer charghsheets remain untouched. AIMMM demands the central government to compensate and rehabilitate innocent Muslim youths who are acquitted after years in jail. The AIMMM condemns the surreptitious ban clamped on SIMI for another period of two years while five of its appeals are still pending in the Supreme Court. The AIMMM demands the central government to issue a white paper on the so-called Indian Mujahidin which the Indian Muslim community believes is a creation of the Intelligence Bureau as a tool to malign Muslim youth. Christians in J&K Christian organisations in India have unleashed a false propaganda that Christians are being forced out of the Kashmir Valley which is not correct. AIMMM urges the Church within and without J&K to desist from such false propaganda which does not serve anyones interest. Creeping saffronisation in M.P. The AIMMM registers its alarm and displeasure at the continued saffronisation of the state, especially the educational system, in M.P. Surya Namaskar and the introduction of Gita in school syllabus are two clear examples of this policy which flies in the face of the countrys secular Constitution. The Central Govt., through HRD ministry, should intervene and ensure that the
passed at the earliest so that the responsibility for inaction and failures in this matter could be fixed, culprits could be punished and victims adequately compensated. Maulana Umri strongly condemned the desecration of the Quran in Afghanistan by NATO forces and said that unspeakable miseries are being heaped by NATO forces on the people of Afghanistan. These are inhuman, barbaric and painful acts for which the culprits must be given exemplary punishments, he said while demanding that one should first read the Holy Quran and then raise ones objections pinpointing the particular text to which one has objections to. Replying to a question, Maulana Umri said that it is not possible for all the Muslim forums which are working in diverse fields, to come together on a single platform because all these forums are working for different aims, goals and purposes. He added that at best Muslim leadership should come together to chart out a Common Minimum Programme for the Muslim community. Maulana Umri further added that the Jamaat is working towards creating such a Common Minimum Program. JIH secretaries Ejaz Ahmad Aslam, Mohammad Ahmad and Engineer Mohammad Salim were present during the press meet.
Ayodhya: Ayodhya Ki Awaaz in association with Awadh Peoples Forum organised a peace programme at Saryukunj Mandir here on 2 March so that what happened ten years ago in Gujarat is never repeated. People from all faiths participated in this programme and discussed ways and means that can prevent such communal violence. Noted social activist known for promoting Hindu Muslim unity, Yugal Kishore Sharan Shastri, presided over this Message of Peace programme. The audience was shown what had happened in 2002 Godhra riots with the help of online multimedia presentation. A documentary film on the riots was also shown; young social activists expressed their opinion. Ghufaran Siddiqui said that even after 10 years, victims are still waiting for justice. He said that during the riots youth are mainly involved and it is essential to mould the youth and make them aware as to how they can refrain from such wrongdoing. Strengthening social bonding and rising above narrow-mindedness we will have to work for promoting peace. Tufail, another social activist, said that Muslims are generally blamed for every incident and false propaganda is spread to malign the Muslim community. Anti-Muslim measures taken in the BJP-ruled state are not in the interest of the country. Religion and humanity have their own place in society. In these days there are so many organisations working against the Muslim community which is certainly not a healthy sign for our society. Social activist Zainab Siddique expressed her condolences for all those killed during riots and put a question mark on the VHPs role during the riots. This organisation provokes sentiments of Hindus against Muslims and spreads hatred. She praised Yugal Kishore for his efforts in promoting peace in society with such programmes and Sadbhawana yatras. She said people are becoming aware by these yatras and she herself had participated in two such yatras. He has also visited Godhra to feel the pain and suffering of the people there and is working for these people by promoting peace. Dhiraj Soni, while speaking at the meet, said whether it was the Gujarat riots or at any other place mainly youth are seen and that is why youth must be educated with the help of history and social books so that they are not misguided under any circumstances. He said that after minutely observing the pattern of riots, an attempt should be made to find a possible solution that can prevent riots in the near future. Dr Karan said that we have confined ourselves in the loop of religious identity and the need of the hour is to rise above our religious boundaries as that is the only way forward to stop riots and communal bigotry and hatred towards others on religious grounds. Humanity is above all religions and it is required at the moment as it can prevent communal violence, casteism and all ills of our society. Taurab Ahmad, who had come from Basti, said that it is essential to form social bonding irrespective of caste and religion. Yugal Kishore Sharan Shastri, who was presiding over the function, while welcoming the guests and the gathering assured the people that he will keep on working for peace and solidarity among masses till his last breath. He asked the people to fight against those spreading hatred and animosity in the society without any fear in order to carry forward the message of peace. He urged the people to help the victims irrespective of their religion and caste. Other social activists participated in the programme were Mohammad Afaque, Mohammad Arif, Satya Narayan Maurya, Mahadev Maurya, Nand Kumar Gupt, Alok, Nigam, Bhanu Singh, Rekha Gaud, Iram Siddique, Zeehsan, Bambam Yadav and Vasudev Yadav. Tumhare state me jo naxal-vadi hain, unko idhar bhejo! Woh toh hamari raksha karenge! (you have Naxalites in your state (Andhra Pradesh), send them here, they will protect us!) - Abdul Haq, a resident of Panchamahal District. There is no active Dalit or Naxalite movement in Gujarat, there are no parties like the Bahujan Samaj Party or the communist parties; there are no civil liberties organizations or democratic rights organizations in Gujarat. There has been no active reformist movement or democratic movement since decades in Gujarat. The void created by the absence of these organizations and movements is filled by Hindu religious fanatics and fundamentalists. Numerous Hindu organizations like the RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, and some other outfits like Yogeshwar Pariwar, Gayathri Pariwar, Sadvichar Parivar, Swamy Narayana Sampraday, Hindu Mahasabha and its affiliated Bharathiya Hindu Milan Mandir, and other outfits like the Samajik Samrastha Manch, which originated in the RSS, are actively functioning in Gujarat since decades. Bharathiya Milan Mandir is engaged in celebrating Hindu festivals extravagantly; it made Adivasis a part of these celebrations. They spread the message that all nonMuslims and non-Christians are Hindus and all Hindus should pray to Cow, Rama, Veda, Geeta and Achari; the main target of this outfit is Adivasis. Another outfit which is the brainchild of the RSS, called Samajik Samrasta Manch, is engaged in attracting dalits and Ambedkarites towards Hinduism. Due to such intensive campaigning, they have succeeded in making some Dalits and Ambedkarites loyal to the BJP. There was a special agenda and a perfect plan to attract Adivasis and Dalits from the very beginning. Another right wing organization called Vanavasi Kalyana Ashram is working exclusively among Adivasis. The activities taken up by these right wing organizations did not fulfill any material needs of Dalits and the tribals. The main intention of these outfits is to lure these people into the fold of Hindusim. On the other hand there are no other political parties other than the Congress and the BJP. The members of Hindu right wing organizations like RSS and VHP are acting as leaders in Congress
Muslims are making preparations to kill you. If you want to save your life, you yourselves should confront the Muslims-- fake messages like this were spread by the police themselves in and around the hamlets of Randikpur Taluk of Dahod District; in villages like Sanjali, Seethakosli, Limidi, Mikoshi, Pimi, Vasiya, Fathehpur, Sukhsar, Mothebandhibar, Linkheda, Piplod, and Baria, to instigate Adivasis against the Musims. - Siddiq, Teacher, Sanjeli.
party and as public representatives, and BJP is acting as the political representative of Hindu fundamentalists. The leaders of Congress are also pro-Hindutva. There is no alternative to Hindu politics in todays Gujarat. There is no political party that represents the interests of, or supports the Muslim fraternity. Scores of textile mills were closed down due to the crisis in Gujarat textile industry in the 1980s and 90s. More than one million people were rendered jobless. The disgruntled among the unemployed, poor and the starving were used as a Vanar Sena, or monkey army, by the Hindu fundamentalists. They used them in killings, lootings and house burnings. In Gujarat, both Hindu Baniyas and Bohra Muslims are engaged in the business of pawnbroking. Acting on prior information, the Baniya community reduced the interest rate from 120% to 80%. This helped to instigate Dalits and Adivasis against the Muslim business community which had no access to any prior information about the plot. When we observe the social, economic and political situation in Gujarat (in 2002), we can understand that there was a prehatched plan worked out for decades by Hindu fundamentalists to carry out genocide of the Muslim community. There are no effective movements to confront this genocide of the Muslims. The most pathetic effect is that some so called Ambedkarites are also members of BJP. This Gujarat carnage is like a final caution for secular, democratic, Dalit, Communist and Naxalite movements and organizations. The responsibility of giving assurance to the Muslim community is upon these organizations. In our state (Andhra Pradesh), especially in Telangana region, the ideology of Hindutva is gaining strength day by day. Victory of Hindutva-driven BJP in districts like Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak and Hyderabad in 1999 elections, in areas where the Naxalite movement is considered strong, was the sign of a dangerous new development. Can we restrain our state from becoming another Gujarat? How can we stop any other state from becoming another Gujarat?
Karthik Navayan is a human rights activist. He wrote this article ten years ago, in 2002, after visiting Gujarat as a relief volunteer seeking to offer aid to the victims of the 2002 carnage. The one persistent thought on his mind after the experience was: how to stop any other state from becoming another Gujarat? That question is still very relevant. he proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) which was to be operational from the month of March this year has been put on hold, in view of protests from several states. The move was opposed by several chief ministers across the country including UPA ally Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. They described it as an attack on Indias federal structure. Condemning its formation, JKLF (R) chairman, Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bita Karatey, February 20 warned that it would have deleterious impact on the situation in Kashmir. In a statement issued here on February 20, he said that formation of this centre would lead to further persecution and victimization of people in Kashmir. Karatey said it seems chief minister Omar Abdullah will not have the courage to speak against its implementation in state. The chief minister however, supports Centre-state consultations to put at rest any controversy arising over setting up of the centre. Speaking to media on the sidelines of a function at Magam, about 20 kilometres from the city-centre on February 21, he has been quoted as saying, There has been no discussion between state and central government on the issue. I dont think it would be appropriate as chief minister for me to publicly comment on this crucial issue, before I privately share feelings of the state government with the Union government. The chief minister added, I have no doubt that in the days and months ahead, central government will call state governments for consultation. I believe consultation is essential and during course of that consultation we will share thoughts of state government with the Centre. A day later, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah said that central government has no intention to curtail powers of states by forming the centre but states need to cooperate to fight the scourge of terrorism. While speaking to media after chairing a legislative party meeting at Jammu on February 22, he said, Chief Ministers of states should have been called to talk about it, but I dont think there was deliberate intention by the Centre to erode authority of states. He added that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram have already taken steps to get feedback of respective chief ministers. The Union Minister said terrorism cant be fought without the centre and states being on the same wavelength as cooperation of both is vital. UP Elections: Lessons
he electoral battle in Uttar Pradesh is over with the results making many still deliberate on what helped Samajwadi Party gain an absolute majority in the state assembly. Why have the Congress and BJP performed miserably? And why hasnt all the negative campaigning contributed to collapse of Mayawatis BSP? The BSP has certainly been pushed out of power but having emerged as the second most important party in the state assembly, it is now ranked as the leading opposition party. What role has been played by the socalled Muslim vote? Taking the last point first, the hype created about the Muslim vote stands shattered by the very fact that they have not voted en bloc for any one party. In fact, a party floated as that of Muslims, Peace Party has a non-Muslim as one of its few candidates who have managed to win their electoral battle to reach the UP assembly. At the same time, the point that has been paid utmost attention is that the new UP Assembly has more Muslim members than it ever had in the past. Against the 56 Muslim legislators in 2007 elections, the present polls have sent 69 Muslims to the UP assembly. Certainly, the parties in the fray have tried their best in using their respective Muslim-cards to attract the votes of the
Muslim community. Out of the 78 Muslim candidates fielded by SP, 43 have emerged as winners. Only 16 of the 85 Muslim candidates fielded by BSP have made it to the new assembly. Statistically, around 62 percent of Muslim legislators belong to SP, 22 to BSP and the rest to others. What needs to be paid attention is that the Muslim voters decision has been markedly influenced by political cards used by parties in the fray. If the religious factor has played a decisive role, it has prompted the Muslim voters to pay considerable attention to ensure the defeat of communal elements. The dismal performance of BJP can be partly linked with this approach displayed by Muslims as well as other non-communal, secular voters. The last point further affirms the stand that SPs stunning victory has not been solely influenced by the states Muslim populace turning towards it. If the BJP and Sangh Parivars Ayodhya-card further alienated the states voter from them, the haunting impact of Batla House encounter turned the voters away from the Congress. These two points also suggest as to why UP Muslims have not totally turned away from supporting Mayawati. It may also be noted that the states only Muslim party has not attracted much support from Muslims as have the SP and BSP. Also, the noise made by certain Muslim leaders on assuring reservation for Muslims failed to convince the states Muslim populace. In fact, the victory of Muslim candidates from SP and BSP may not have been possible had they belonged to parties, the states Muslim and secular non-Muslims have virtually turned against. This point also suggests that non-Muslim leaders and parties, primarily because of their secular image, have succeeded in attracting Muslim votes. The division in
Muslim votes, with most opting for SP and a few for BSP, further shatters the myth entertained about there being a Muslim vote-bank in UP. This certainly does not undermine the significance of the Muslim votes. However, there is a difference in blanketing an entire communitys votes as the Muslim-vote and in studying the same as votes of Muslims. The case may have been different had there been select constituencies where only Muslims could cast votes and contest polls. Such is not the case in UP or in any other part of the country. Except for the Valley of Kashmir, Muslims are in a minority in most parts of the country. The UP electoral-battle clearly indicates that it is not an easy task for national parties to defeat regional parties in areas where they have a strong base. The final results have brought SP and BSP to number one and two positions, respectively, which have spelt a strong defeat for both the Congress and BJP. Here, it may be noted that during the campaign-phase, speculations were rife about virtual collapse of BSP in UP. This has not been the case. BSP has certainly been pushed out of power, but it still retains its position as a strong party. Notwithstanding all the media-coverage and party support received by Rahul Gandhi, his magic-wand failed to work. The failure of the Congress also indicates the peoples refusal to withdraw their support from the regional parties and regional leaders. Statistically, they switched sides, turning away from BSP to support the SP. The increase in voters turning out to cast their votes also signals the quiet political storm brewing in their hearts and minds. They wanted a stable government run by a regional party and were absolutely against its command being taken over by either Congress or BJP.

Statement of Justice Hosbet Suresh read out this statement in Ahmedabad on February 27, 2012 during a meeting on Gulberg Memorial 2002-2012: How does one live with the recurring memories of a gruesome past? Of the hideous acts of mass murder, rape and destruction of properties and livelihood? We have recorded all such stories, as each one, the victims, and all kith and kin of the dead, narrated with tears in their eyes and with no hope of any future, in our report, Crime Against Humanity. The dead cannot be resurrected but the living should hope to have a dignified future while their struggle seems to be eternal for justice and survival. We are here to express our solidarity with them and in that to make the government accountable. Some people say that it is time for reconciliation. Does reconcile mean letting off the perpetrators? While those who committed mass murder, mass rape and mass destruction are free, and with no sense of remorse or regret, will there be any reconciliation? Some people say that Gujarat has grown in forms of development and administration and therefore we forget what happened ten years ago. Who will say this? Women who were raped, would they say this? How does the so-called development of Gujarat mean anything to them when the rapists are free? Children who have seen their mothers, sisters, being raped and killed, would they say that? What about the large numbers of people who have lost their dear and near ones, would they say that? Would they not ask what has happened to those who were responsible for the acts they committed? What did the administration do when such horrible crimes were being committed? Who gave the orders? What did the police do? What did the ministers do? Above all, what did the chief minister do? None of these questions have been satisfactorily answered. People may think of the South African experience of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. I agree. Truth must come. In Desmond Tutus words: They must make a clean breast of what they did. Yes, it may amount to reopening of old wounds. But what he said is important. Our justification was that these wounds were actually festering and that reopening was crucial in so much as it meant you would be able to cleanse the wounds and pour a balm on them. There is no way you can deal with the past without opening wounds. So you have to clean up the wounds; you have to tell the truth, and the truth becomes the basis for justice. One of the components of justice is proper reparation for all the victims of the 2002 carnage. Sadhbhavna without truth and justice is only a farce and has no meaning.

Root cause of all problems of Muslims is their moving away from Islam: Imam Haram
New Delhi: The two-day 31st annual conference of Jamiat Ahle Hadees was held here on 3-4 March on the theme of the greatness of the Sahaba (the Companions of the Prophet, pbuh). A galaxy of Indian and foreign scholars and dignitaries participated in this conference especially Dr Saud ibn Ibrahim Al-Shuraim, an Imam of the Holy Mosque in Mecca. While expressing concern at the rampant social evils, scholars stated that the root cause of all evils prevailing in the Muslim society is their moving away from the Quran and Hadees. Scholars said, for the solution of all their problems Muslim should make, like Sahaba, the Quran and Hadees their guiding light. Several resolutions were adopted at this conference which stated that Muslims should abstain from liquor, intoxicants, sexual perversion and license, theft and loot, black marketing, cheating and all kinds of harmful habits and activities. While focusing on the habits that spoil the youth, appeal was made to milli and religious organisations to start campaigns for reforming society. Concern was also expressed over the Supreme Courts approval and justification of livein relationship between man and woman, i.e., living together without marriage. It was stated that this is unacceptable from the social and religious point of view. At the same time homosexuality was described as dangerous for society and a request was made to the Indian government that bearing in mind moral values and peoples feelings, homosexual relationships should be banned through a legal amendment. A demand was also made to remove the provision of live-in relationship included in Domestic Violence Act. Other resolutions adopted by the conference included a call for the implementation of Sachar Committee and Mishra Commission recommendations for social progress of Muslims at the earliest, impartial inquiries into terrorist and bomb blast cases and exemplary punishments to criminals, investigation of Batla House encounter, acquittal of innocent Muslims at the earliest who were falsely arrested, making the local administration accountable in case of communal riots, exempting religious institutions and organisations and places of worship from Direct Tax Bill, review of objectionable items/materials in the Waqf Amendment Bill.
The conference passed resolutions on various world affairs including a strong condemnation of the burning and desecration of the Quran by NATO forces in Afghanistan. Imam of Kaba, Sheikh Dr. Saud ibn Ibrahim Al-Shuraim while addressing a large gathering said that raising fingers at the Sahaba is tantamount ot finding fault with the religion and is therefore kufr. He said that the respectable Sahabas had fully devoted themselves to the service of religion and humanity and had set examples worth emulation in all walks of life. He said that by adopting the way of the life of the Sahaba, people can face the problems and difficulties of the present times. He prayed for the well being of the millat, country and humanity as a whole. Jamiatul Ulama chief Maulana Arshad Madni, while speaking at the conference, said that the solution of modern day problems is possible only by following in the footsteps of the venerable Sahaba who were indeed the benefactors of Mankind. Jamaat-e Islamis chief Maulana Jalaluddin Umri said that adhering to the Sunnat will guarantee success in life. He said that the main reason for our humiliation and difficulties today is not following these fundamental principles. He said that all Muslims agree that Sahaba did not err in identifying the true religion. Muhammd Adeeb, M.P., said that Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees by organising this conference provided the opportunity to us to be in the company of Imam of Kaaba. He urged the people to be a blessing, not a curse, for the
people on this earth. General secretary of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees, Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salafi, said that this conference on adaalatus sahaba was organised because the venerable sahaba are our role models in practicing our religion and rendering service to humanity. That is why Gandhiji had said that after independence we will set up a system like the one that
prevailed during the period of Caliph Hazrat Umar. Emphasising the role of Jamiat Ahle Hadees, he referred to the words of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who had stated that if the sacrifices of all the fighters of Indias independence are placed in one side of the balance and those of the Ahle Hadees of Sadiqpur are placed on the other side, the latter side will have the upper hand. Protest in Okhla against illegal arrests
New Delhi: Hundreds of people demonstrated on 26 Feb in Jamia Nagar against the illegal arrests, kidnappings and harassing of local residents by the police. Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) Delhi secretary, Syed Akhlaq, while addressing the protest-march said, Police is for peoples safety, not for terrorizing them, and it is their prime duty to respect civil rights while arresting any person and Supreme Court should take action if its given guidelines are not being followed by any law enforcement agency. He added that People should be aware and come out to protect their civil rights. Adv. Feroz Ghazi, vice president of APCR Delhi chapter, said, No one is allowed to take the law into his hand, either police or common people and every person has the right to protect himself from illegal detention. About 200 persons including advocates, social activists and students marched through Okhla Police Station, Jamia Millia Islamia, Zakir Nagar to Batla House. This march was a part of APCRs week-long civil rights awareness campaign Awakening among Muslims is the need of the hour Kishan Ganj: Maulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi, a distinguished religious scholar and milli leader said while speaking on the occasion of a 2-day educational awareness conference and Quran competition, at Madrasa Tajweedul Quran, a centre of religious education and training in this city on 27 February that the effects of western civilisation are amply visible fast in Muslim society and if this trend is not controlled, chances of Islamic civilization and way of life losing its identity will increase all the more. It is, therefore, need of the time that Muslims should be made aware of this danger and the need to safeguard Islamic way of life and purge it of all kinds of vices. He said that Islam has provided an extremely comprehensive and well-kint life style and if people follow and adopt this system, evils and vices in the world will be removed and there will be peace and harmony everywhere. Expressing his grief at the present trend, he said that inspite of our good civilization and way of life, today we are copying others because of which our daily life has become alienated from Islam in all respects. He further said that today many customs and traditions have crept in our society which are in no way related to Islam and because of un-Islamic customs and dangerous evils in Muslim society, many problem and difficulties are cropping up which adversely affect many people. With regard to social reforms Maulana Asrarul Haq, who is also the president of All India Talimi wa Milli Foundation said that in Islam observance of purdah is prescribed but inspite of this shamelessness and fashion is gradually increasing and women go to markets and all other places without the veil. He said that Islam lays great emphasis on education in the Quran and Hadees but today Muslims do not pay any attention to this. He urged Muslims to strictly follow Shariat because it is essential for success in this world and the hereafter. In addition to him, Maulana Idrees, senior religious scholar of Islampur, Maulana Khalil Ramdevi, Mufti Javed Iqbal, secretary of Jamiatul Ulama etc. also addressed the meeting. About 250 students of Madrasa Tajweedul Quran were given certificates and dastaar-bandi ceremony took place. Lecture on Arab Spring
New Delhi: An extension lecture on Arab Spring sponsored by Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies was held at Jamia Millia Islamia on 29 February. Speaking on this topic Karmatullah Ghori, a former diplomat of Pakistan who is now settled in Canada after retirement and currently on a visit to India said that before speaking anything on this topic it would be advisable to know why and for whom this spring i.e. movement for democracy in the Arab world began and where it will possibly lead to. He said that nowhere in the Arab world people enjoyed freedom of speech and press because till about a year ago all these counties were being ruled by dictators and tyrants. People wanted individual freedom and had been praying to get rid of a suffocated life. He said that the lava that had been brewing in peoples minds and hearts erupted first in Tunisia in the form of a revolution and very soon spread to many other countries of the Middle East, resulting in the overthrow of tyrant rulers. He said that though many of the tyrant rulers were removed but even now inspite of the change, conditions have not improved and there is a state of uncertainty in all those countries. In reply to a question about conditions in his country i.e. Pakistan he said that we Pakistanis, with our own actions have turned the dream of the founders of Pakistan into a nightmare. Prof. Muhammad Saleem Qidwai of JNUs Centre for American Studies who is well-versed in Islamic-American affairs said in his presidential address that Karamatullah Ghori with his personal experiences in the Middle East has provided us with first hand information and knowledge. He said that revolutions in the Arab world are nothing new because there have been revolutions there earlier also but those were army sponsored and one dictator was replaced by another dictator but a special feature of this revolution is that it is people oriented and youths particularly are in the forefront in this. Let us hope that this revolution will be successful, he said. Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, Director of JMIs Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies said while welcoming the guest speaker said that Karamatullah Ghori earlier being Pakistans ambassador in North African and West Asian countries for a long time is an expert in Arab-Islamic affairs and that is why he has been invited here to enlighten us about the conditions prevailing in those countries. He said that in addition to being a diplomat he (Ghori) also holds a respectable place in Urdu literature and has presented a comprehensive and clear scenario of the conditions prevailing there presently and their likely consequences in future. Bogus Rocket launcher story exposed Vadodara: The court acquitted seven innocent youth arrested in a much publicised rocket launcher recovery case and slammed the police for its bogus story. A lot of noise of vicious designs was made at the time of the arrest of these persons on 5 September 2009. Rocket launchers, bombs, gun powder, nails etc. were recovered by police as timely action to avert bloodshed on the occasion of Ganapati Visarjan (immersion) festival. Zaheer Abbas Amruddin Shaikh, Iqbal alias Iqqu Majeed Shaikh, Ameen Razak Shah, Usman alias Nawab Abdul Bhai, Ismail alias Kalu Muhammad Malek, Rais alias Raja alias Shera Abdul Rashid Shaikh and Kamil Ghafoor Miyan Shaikh were charged with conspiracy to unleash terror. They spent two years and five months in jail for a crime they never committed. Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana had, at that time, claimed to have busted a gang of conspirators. Dismissing the charges the court observed that the so-called rocket launcher was a mere galvanized pipe and does not merit mention under the Arms Act. All the recovered materials such as pipe, gunpowder, nails etc. are easily available in the market and the witnesses were professional ones patronised by the police. The case was defended by Muhammad Hanif Shaikh and Jagdish Ramani whereas the prosecution counsel was Raghuvir Pandya. Additional Sessions judge A.M. Dave acquitted the accused. They will, now, file compensation claims for their mental suffering. It may be recalled that at the very first press conference Gujarat Today had not only ridiculed the police claim but also had asked the commissioner to show the recovered rocket launcher. 2 arrested for misuse of minority funds in UP Two employees have been arrested by Economic Offence Wing (EOW) sleuths along with Hazratganj police for misuse of funds allocated to UP Minority Finance and Development Corporation by the Centre for the welfare of the minorities in the state. The obvious thrust of the US-led arm-twisting and blackmailing of Iran is to force Iran into submission to the Israeli and western diktat, something that Iran has so far resisted without showing any cracks in its national resolve to not give in to intimidation and blackmail. The heavy turnout of the Iranian people at the early March parliamentary elections, at the call of their supreme leader, was evidence that in these testing times the Iranian people wanted to rally behind their leadership and elect people with pride in their nations march to progress to the parliament.
Israelis and their backers in US. Obama has, therefore, been extra-careful to not ruffle the Israeli and Zionist feathers on Iran. However, because of US entanglement in Afghanistan, Obamas seems to give first priority to means other than the use of force to force Iran to bend and give in to the relentless Israeli and combined western blackmail of its alleged nuclear ambitions. US, on Obamas watch, have been raising the ante of sanctions against Iran. The latest squeeze mounted by Washington and its obliging European allies virtually puts a gag on Irans vital oil exports, in addition to dealing with the Iranian Central Bank impossible for the outside world. The obvious thrust of the US-led armtwisting and blackmailing of Iran is to force Iran into submission to the Israeli and western diktat, something that Iran has so far resisted without showing any cracks in its national resolve to not give in to intimidation and blackmail. The heavy turnout of the Iranian people at the early March parliamentary elections, at the call of their supreme leader, was evidence that in these testing times the Iranian people wanted to rally behind their leadership and elect people with pride in their nations march to progress to the parliament. Obama, on his part, seems focused on making sure that his Zionist nemeses dont get the better of him this time around on the Israeli agenda against Iran. The leader of the western worlds desire to stay one step ahead of his detractors and critics is goading him on a course where the room for error is reduced to absolute minimum. force Iran into compliance with US and Israeli demands and open its nuclear programme to strict international inspection, Obama waxed eloquent that as President of US I dont bluff. He was alluding to his determination to not write off any other options in regard to the policy objective to force Iran into submission, including, in particular, the use of force. This was another reiteration of the oft-sounded Obama punch-line that he wasnt inclined to take any option off the table in relation to Iran. Two days after his Atlantic Monthly interview had made global headlines and invited thread-bare analyses from pundits all over the world, Obama addressed the AIPAC conclave where he publicly aired his preference for giving diplomacy and sanctions one last chance to brow-beat Iran but coupled his softapproach with an equally resolute determination to keep his gun powder ready to blast Iran on the battle-field as a measure of last resort. However, Obama seemed acting like a trapeze artist doing a double somersault, in smug confidence of a safety net sprawled underneath, in his AIPAC address on March 4. With Netanyahus histrionic rhetoric about Irans putative deadly nuclear ambition clearly on his mind, Obama lashed out at those indulging in Loose talk on war. This was brave on his part, given the shrill voices being raised with impunity from many an Israeli and Zionist pulpits to nip the evil of Irans nuclear programme in the bud before the flames of an Iranian bomb licked Israel. But Obama would be nave if he didnt cater to the aggressive and warlike instincts of the Israeli partisans and apologists to their entire satisfaction. So, feeding their frenzy for war and terror to the hilt as partisans of Israel in fear of a nuclear Iran, Obama waxed eloquent, as usual when it comes to the rights of Israel. He said: No Israeli government can tolerate a nuclear weapon in the hands of a regime that denies the Holocaust, threatens to wipe Israel off the map, and sponsors terrorist groups committed to Israels destruction. This was an unabashed Obama uttering every sound byte to please the Zionists and their partisans to the utmost of their desire to give Iran a bloodied nose and cater to the hilt all their fanciful imaginations to make Israel a feared nation by all its neighbours. But Obama didnt stop there. He went way ahead-beyond all reasonable pandering to Israeli penchant to sow terror and fear in the hearts of its critics and opponents. Expanding on the theme of Israels right of self-defence Obama virtually handed over to Netanyahu a carte blanche to take as many swipes against Iran as possible by fully endorsing Israels sovereign right to make its own decisions about what is required to meet its security needs. So thats the latest Obama Doctrine: Israel has the right to define its own threat perception and then decide on the measure needed to defend itself against its perceived enemy. In other words, Israel will be its own judge and jury, as well as executioner to meet out whatever punishment it deems appropriate and necessary to its enemy, and no one in the world will have any right to question Israels wisdom or freedom of action. Obama, a Nobel Peace Laureate, has gone back to the law of the jungle where the powerful defines what needs to be done to its enemy and then acts with impunity-with no fear of accountability-against its quarry to settle the issue according to its own higher wisdom and judgment. What could be more welcome to the Israelis who have, in any case, been acting as their own judge, jury and executioner in ever thing related to their hapless quarries-the Palestinians-in the Occupied Territory. Obama was given a taste of the Israeli freedom to act without accountability when he tried to limit their option to expand their settlements at the expense of the Palestinians. Obama had earlier been given his first lesson in the rules of engagement with the Israelis when, on the heels of his electoral victory in 2008, the Israelis unleashed unprovoked terror against the Palestinians of Gaza and slaughtered them in thousands to satisfy their unquenchable thirst for Palestinian blood. Now it should be the Iranians to fulfill the Zionist bloodlust. And Obam is fully on board with their plans. No wonder that Netanyahu welcomed the license given to his war-mongering by Obama a day ahead of his arrival in Washington. On a week-end visit to the Canadian capital, Ottawa, where the Tory government of PM Stephen Harper prides itself for being the most steadfast and unflinching votary of the Israelis, Netanyahu gleefully articulated his sense of glee before the news media in these words: I appreciate the fact that he (Obama) said that Israel must be able to defend itself, by itself, against any threat. So Obama, anxious and nervous to garner the Jewish vote for his re-election bid later in the year, has rolled out a red carpet for Netanyahu in Washington with his presidential stamp in gold on it. Political pundits may have been scratching their heads about who was trying to call whose bluff between Obama and Netanyahugiven their past history of difference of opinion with regard to the Palestinian rights and the moribund peace process. However, Obama seems to have ended all the suspense on the matter with his partisan speech at the latest AIPAC session, ahead of whatever rhetoric may flow from Netanyahus mouth. On Iran, Obama and Netanyahu are at one. Obama may have said the last word to remove any lingering doubt whether he would give in to the Israeli blackmail to give Iran a bloodied nose, when he said, categorically and unequivocally: I have a policy to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. So the use of force is no longer in doubt; the only remaining focus of interest for pundits is, would Obama let Netanyahu have a go alone or would it be a joint operation?
ith a keen eye on his re-election bidfor which the backing and support of the pro-Israeli lobby is more than necessary-Obama has been making the right noises to please his Zionist interlocutors; his most ardent desire seems riveted on not giving them any opportunity to pick on him. And yet he appears equally devoted to his desire to not have two conflicts, Afghanistan and Iran, piled on his plate at one and the same time. The powerful America-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was to commence its annual jamboree in Washington from March 4; no American politico of any consequence wishes to be left out from showing their face at this gathering, a ritual that ensures them both patronage and votes. Obama in this election year had to have this conclave on top of his engagements. But Obamas foreign policy concerns dictated another effort on his part to calibrate his policy options on Iran and share them with the world. On Friday, March 2, just two days before the AIPAC session, the Atlantic Monthly a respectable journal of international affairs, came out with an Obama interview in which he dilated at length on his views and policies on Syria and Iran. While insisting on the need to give diplomacy-backed-by-sanctions still a chance to
he escalating conflict around Iran should be contained by common effort, otherwise the promising Arab Spring will grow into a "scorching Arab Summer," says Dmitry Rogozin, Russia's former envoy to NATO. "Iran is our close neighbor, just south of the Caucasus. Should anything happen to Iran, should Iran get drawn into any political or military hardships, this will be a direct threat to our national security," stressed Rogozin. Dmitry Rogozin, who served as Russia's special envoy to NATO in 2008-2011, was appointed deputy prime minister by Vladimir
Putin in December. On Friday he was bidding farewell to his NATO colleagues in the alliance's headquarters in Brussels. s for Syria, if NATO persists in interfering in its affairs, a catastrophe will be hard to avoid, said Rogozin, talking to journalists on the premises of the Russian mission to the alliance. "The example of Libya should have cooled everybody down in matters dealing with foreign civil wars," he said, stressing that this is his personal point of view. "Syria must be left alone and the sides to the conflict must be assisted in breaking the
stand-off and starting negotiations. No one must interfere with Syria. This is dangerous," added Rogozin. The West's attempts to improve democracy in the Middle East and North Africa have resulted in Islamists coming to power. It is now up to the West to decide how comfortable they feel with neighbors who determine their politics with Sharia law, says Rogozin. "If we add the escalating tensions around Iran to the situation in Syria and the consequences of the Libyan war, then the upcoming 'scorching' Arab Summer, which is following the Arab Spring, will hardly be to anyone's taste."

Letters can be great instruments to showcase the socio-political landscape of any society and culture and many people have used this as an effective tool to express their feelings - both sorrow and happiness. Letters written by Dalit priest Father William Premdass Chaudhary reveal quite a dark world of discrimination and untouchability widespread in the grandiose Catholic Church system and debunks many myths surrounding the Church. Father William Premdass Chaudhary attacks the problem directly in his latest published autobiography An Unwanted Priest. He has an inimitable style of writing. He describes life in the Church and priesthood and presents insights hitherto unknown to most of the people. Father William Premedass Chaudhary does not mince words when he picks his pen. He goes on analysing very far and peels the problem layer after layer with great precision. Analysing the deep-rooted feelings of caste discrimination in the forewalls of Church, Father William writes at one place in response to a letter written by Vincent M. Concessao, Archbishop of Delhi, I am a Dalit priest, not a beggar. I am not begging you for the parish. I am not the Manglorian priest so that you will care for me. I dont require your permission and position (parish) to preach the Gospel. Jesus is my master and not you. I am Jesus slave and not yours. Even without parish what I have achieved, I am fully satisfied with. I am a Dalit priest so it is my duty to safeguard the dignity of Dalit Catholics He goes on saying, Why, I [local Dalit Priest] am not assigned pastoral ministry consecutively for four years but you have assigned pastoral ministry to other priests of Delhi Catholic Archdiocese though no one has gone for long retreat. You have written in your letter that you cannot assign me a parish because of my shortcomings which are fabricated, as neither of my shortcomings has been proved by you The book reveals the inside world of Church, clash of egos and raises questions about the style of functioning of the grand institution and clearly depicts the injustice meted out to Dalit people and priests. The book exposes many things and breaks many myths. Father William raises a big question on the financial mismanagement of certain influential officials in the Church. When he writes about Dominique Emmanuel, another priest, that Please tell Fr. Dominique to put on the website of the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese. He had income and expenditure for dubbing the movie into other languages. The same income and expenditure must be displayed on the website. When the movie was produced, the name of Sadbhavana was added. Why it was so? Chetanalaya was the only producer. I heard that Fr. Dominic Emmanuel was telling others that Sadbhavana had contributed the money towards the production of movie It does not seem farther from the truth that there is greater need to put proper accounting checks on the income and expenditure of the Church. Similarly, at one place in the book he gives an interesting instance which became the

ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE
seeking bondage that prevents the heart from thinking about the affairs of the next life, from pursuing beneficial knowledge, and from gainful work. This bondage holds his heart hostage in the life of this world. Such a lover remains the prisoner of the one he loves, all of his concern being about her. How astounding it is for the liberated to prefer bondage, and for the tranquil to favour hardship! For example, if the woman such a man loves and seeks after needs much care and attention, then woe to him! For never shall he know again either tranquillity or peace of mind! Or if she needs a little of his attention and is independent, yet flaunts her beauty in public and cannot be trusted, then that is definite destruction. For the man will have no rest in sleep, nor sense of security whenever he leaves his home. Or if she requires much spending of money to please her, money he does not have, then how many a bad situation will this man put himself in for her. Or if she demands much sex while he is advancing in years, then such is a great devastation for him. Or if she hates him while he has exhausted all possible ways by which he can alter himself until it becomes disfiguring, then that is a man moving swiftly toward self-annihilation. For such a man in reality is like one who worships an idol. Then let this man fear God in the good woman that he has, and let him turn away from the desires and wishes of his soul because they have no end. The truth is if a man were to attain a woman that he desired more than his wife, he would soon be bored of her and seek out a third woman. Then he would become bored again, and seek a fourth, and so on to no end. (Excerpts From Quarry Of The Mind (Sayd Al-Khatir) by Ibn Al-Jawzi (d. 597H) - translated by Omar Abdl-Haleem and I took her to my bosom; she lifted her left hand towards me and with her right hand motioned the snake away. The snake went away immediately. Then she gave me a seat and sat in my lap and began to stroke my beard with her right hand saying, My dear father, Has not the time come for the believers (who indulge in sins) that their hearts should submit in all humility to the remembrance of Allah and to the truth which is revealed (Al-Hadeed:16). I was moved to tears and asked her, My daughter, do all of you know the meanings of the Quran? She replied We understand the Holy Quran even better than you. I asked her My dear child, what was this snake? She said It was your own evil deeds which had made it so strong that it was about to push you into Hell. I asked And who was that white-robed old man? She replied That were your good deeds and you had made them so weak with your scanty good deeds that he could not help you against the snake (though he suggested to you a means of escape.) I asked What are all of you doing on this hill? She replied We are children of Muslims, who died in infancy. We shall live here till the Day of Resurrection, waiting to be reunited with you when you come to us at last and we shall intercede for you with our Lord. And then I awoke from my dream, with the fright (of the snake) still heavy on my heart. I turned to Allah in repentance, as soon as I arose; and abandoned all my evil ways. (Abu Tariq Hijazi)
people on the Day of Resurrection. I heard a noise and felt something following me. When I looked back, I saw a huge snake chasing me. Ah! It was a horrible sight; the snake had blue catlike eyes, its mouth was wide open and it was rushing toward me furiously. I ran faster in terror, desperate for my life, the horrible snake still running after me and drawing closer. I saw an old man, dressed in elegant clothes with rich perfumes wafting all around his person, I greeted him saying, Assallamu Alaikum and he returned my greetings. I said, For the sake of Allah, help me in my misery. He said I am too weak to help you against such a mighty foe; it is beyond my powers. But you must go on running; perhaps you may find some help. Running wildly I saw a cliff in front of me and climbed it, but on reaching its top, I saw, beyond it, the raging fire of hell. Meanwhile, I heard a voice calling aloud, Get back, for, you are not one of them (the dwellers of hell). I turned and began to run in the opposite direction. The snake also turned around and came after me. I saw again the old man in white robes and said, Old man, cant you save me from this python. The man began to cry and said, I am too weak to help you against such a mighty snake, but I can tell you that there is a hill nearby where they keep the sacred trusts of the
Muslims. If you go up that hill, you might find something of yours, kept in trust, which might save you from the snake. I rushed toward the hill, which was round in shape, with a large number of open curtailed casements. The casements had golden shutters studded with rich rubies, and most precious jewels; on each shutter hung a curtain made of the rarest silk. When I was going to climb the hill, the angels called aloud, Open the windows and raise the curtains and come out of your closets! Here is an unfortunate man in misery; may be you have with you some trust of his, that might help him in his distress. The windows opened at once, the curtains went up, and there issued forth from the casements a host of innocent children, with faces bright as the full moon. By this time I was utterly despondent, for the snake had drawn very close to me. Now the children called their friends, Come out quickly, all of you, for the snake has come very close to him. Hearing this, more children came out of their windows, in large crowds, and among them I saw my own dear daughter who had died some time ago. She also espied me and began to weep, exclaiming, By Allah! He is my own dear father. She jumped on a swinging cradle, which seemed to be made from heavenly light (Noor) and darted across to me. Next moment, she was standing by my side

REJOINDERS/OPINION/LETTERS
The task before Mulayam Singh Let me first congratulate him on his sweeping victory. The voters of UP have experienced the expanse thrift nature of Miss Mayawati. Being a Dalit she tried to maintain her superiority complex by erecting statues neglecting the interests of downtrodden. It was a great mistake and every possibility was there she could repeat the same mistake in future also. The BJP could not attract the Muslim voters. The leaders of BJP so far could not understand the importance of Muslims votes. Unless they change their mindset they will not be able to achieve the power in the large states of India. The Congress has treated Muslims as herds of sheep and goats. They betrayed the Muslim masses in UP. The Batla House encounter had deep impact on the minds of Muslims. Mr. Mulayam was elected as he is free from caste superiority or inferiority. He can mix up with Muslims and Christians. His OBC will not alienate him. The other important factor of his victory was his nativity. He was the son of soil. India is slowly going towards regionalism. In the coming elections only the regional parties will win. The central parties will be smashed. The greatest demerit with Mr. Mulayam Singh is he is ignorant of divine guidance of reining. His cabinet in the due course of time will lay the same eggs as the previous governments. Very insidiously the corruption will be seen with the Ministers in the name of party funds or other excuses. Nepotism will also be seen. Mulayam and Akhalish will become mute spectators. Again after five years the scenario will not be much different as that of Mayawati or UPA government. SC had slammed in February 2011 and again pulled up in May 2011. Former SC Judge PB Sawant and HC Judge H Suresh said the SIT ignored the facts. What sort of SIT can be imagined but amicus curie report is ray of hope in the darkness S. Haque, Patna Race for renaming roads in Delhi With Delhi High Court giving nod to new system of polls for Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), there has been haste in renaming roads and streets according to requirements of decisiontaking political rulers before notification for MCD polls is issued, without proper deliberations. It may be recalled that such renaming of a road after Sardar Shobhasingh had to be later reversed when members of public objected to such renaming. Renaming of historical Chandni Chowk after a former Deputy Mayor of the city was also reversed after public protests. It has been a normal practice that ruling parties decides names for roads and institutions without trying for unanimity and consensus with opposition-parties. All India Congress Committee (AICC) had to shift its main gate of new headquarters from Deendayal Upadhyaya Marg to Kotla Marg because AICC never wanted its postal-address to be linked with name of the then President of Bhartiya Jansangh. It has been a wrong practice everywhere in India with ruling party in a state flooding the complete state with names of roads and institutions after their favourites. System should be to achieve unanimity and consensus with opposition parties in naming roads and institutions. Madhu Agarwal, Delhi-6 subhashmadhu@sify.com Shameless coward countries The number is on the increase of shameless coward countries Who cannot utter a word against America who considers them a herd! Israil may have any number No one must raise a finger!!!! America asks the cowards no to sing Anything against his friendly king!!!!! The coward meekly bow their head Does America give them their daily bread?! Sultan A.U. Patel Khanpur Deh - 392150 Indian Police All countrymen resent the deplorable, thoroughly inefficient and corrupt Indian Police and its functioning. It has earned notoriety for adopting the immensely inhuman torturous 3 degree methods leading to custodial death, resorting to fake encounters, production of fabricated evidence in the courts, arresting innocent Indian citizens and keeping them for months as under-trials. It is full of anti Muslim bias and consider all Muslim terrorists. Over and above all this, it has failed to perform its primary duty of registering FIRs and allowing notorious criminals and history-sheeters to commit all sorts of crimes in return for receiving regularly money from them. Police stations have virtually become dens of worst kind of crimes. Its failure to control public demonstrations and use force is the glalring example of its thorough incompetence. The need of the hour is that the whole police system should be overhauled and revamped and a new comprehensive law is passed by Parliament removing all the evils and converting the police department into a real public service department. Dr. M. Hashim Kidwai, ex-MP, Delhi - 110091 II A young patnaite currently based in Bangalore posted the video on his face book "wonder what this I. P. S. officer learnt through education" another viewer wrote "Indian police are terrorist" there are the reactions showered about the Patna city S. P. Kim Sharma who slapped an old lady and abused the young boy. For this C. M. apologised. S. C. slammed Delhi Police for the excessive force used to evict the Ramdev supporter calling human right violation, abuse of power, and assault on democratic values. But memory fades when Forbesganj police firing, Arraria police firing, Hashim Pura, Malyana, Batla fake encounter case and Gujarat, Bhagalpur, Mumbai etc. riots presented are police not terrorist? Everybody just kept mum. S. Haque Patna How to understand peace Peace does not mean absence of sound. A garden can be a place of peace. The peace that protects a person against the onslaught of failures and disappointments, the stillness of mind which is not agitated by loss or perturbed by anger, jealousy and other lower passions. Nazneen O.Saherwala (Surat nazsita@yahoo.co.in Foreign Hand! The champion of globalization and zealous advocate of foreign direct investment our Prime minister suddenly has problem with ideas and funds coming from abroad. It only shows his frustration and impatience with anything or anybody coming in his way. The PM should know that in these days of instant dissemination of information even activism has gone global. By asserting that the opposition to the nuclear energy is brazenly fed by foreign funds he has insulted Indian activism and placed himself in a position to prove the veracity of his statement. It is the UPA government who has appeared to be working under the influence of the US. If any debate has taken place on nuclear energy vs. renewable sources of energy, it has remained a one sided affair. NGOs have been shouting the cons of one and the pros of the other with government paying no heed. Dr Manmohan Singh apparently has made nuclear power his lifes mission and is unwilling to hear a word against it. He is on record that he would have resigned as the prime minister if the IndoUS nuclear bill had not gone through. Dr Mookhi Amir Ali, Mumbai 400054 drmookhi@hotmail.com Media gagged in Bihar, Urdu press in coma P. C. I. chairman Justice Markande Katju said during Laloo Yadav's government, the law and order of the state had deteriorated but the press was free to criticise the government's wrong moves. The present regime has improved law and order, but, I have come to know, it does not allow the media to function independently and many reporters who went against the govt. were removed". He was saying this at a function in Patna university on 24 February he said that he would send a fact finding team. But Urdu media is surrendered even laying on death bed. Its example is that best selling (Urdu paper claim) Urdu paper published the report of the very programme did not mention the Katju version even. Urdu media so timid that afraid of writing facts. Urdu paper didn't write editorial on Urdu teacher, AMU campus, job share Forbes ganj police firing etc. How to save Urdu media from dying? S. Haque Patna Beware of Israel a rogue state Israel is a creation and puppet of western imperialists. In fact it is a dagger in the heart of Palestinians and Arabs. The congress general secretary and twice chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh while speaking in the 83rd Plenary Session of the Congress Party in Delhi had said that the Malegaon blast, in which 2 army officers are accuseds, has proved that they have even started influencing people inside the army. S. M. Mushrif, former Inspector General of police, Maharashtra state has written an scholarly book titled "Who Killed Karkare?" which is based on facts and evidences. Translations of this explosive book are published in six Indian languages i. e. Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Kannada, Telgu, and Malyalam. Mushrif has written that on duty Lt. Col. Purohit (an accused in Malegaon blast, who is in jail alongwith sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Swami Dayanand Pande etc.) had conspired to wage a war against the Indian govt. with the help of rogue state Israel for establishing their "Hindu Rashtra" in India. These allegations of Digvijay Singh and S. M. Mushrif are very serious and grave. A highest level judicial probe by retired or sitting supreme court judges, in this regard, is the need of the hour. G. Hasnain Kaif Chairman, Media Watch (Maharashtra) Such Israeli news dont get media attention Sreeram Chaulia (vice dean of the Jindal School of International Affairs) mentioned about the interrogation of Israelis for suspicious behaviour and possible intention of avenging the killing of Israeli citizens in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack is a worrisome development. The Kothi police interrogated is realise (HT/17 February 12) news ignored by Indian media. Israeli drug baron Yaniv Benain alias Atala was arrested by Panaji police on March 11 2010. Atalas girl friend lucky farmhouse exposed tapes which showed him confessing his link with the police. Atala got bail and fled the country. He was major drug baron pushing narcotics in the state Coastal Belts. The Goa police commissioner explained this. But media seemed not interested making it news. Why such Israeli news get media attention? S. Haque, Patna Congress in UP It was generous of Rahul Gandhi to take the blame for the bad performance of the party in the assembly elections. Any sort of political rehabilitation of the Congress party in UP was an uphill task. The Man Mohan Singh led UPA government at the centre has served as a millstone around Rahuls neck. People have not seen any benefits of Singhs economic policies trickling down to them. Vote generally was against Singhs anti people policies andof lateauthoritarianism and short shift to human rights. Unless there are major changes at the centre which may include replacement of the prime minister, reversing the nuclear policy and a rethink on the economic reforms, the partys rout in 2014 is certain. Dr Mookhi Amir Ali, Mumbai 400054 drmookhi@hotmail.com II The voters in Uttar Pradesh have demonstrated abundant maturity in the recent assembly elections. The Congress citadels in Amethi and Rai Bareli have crumbled due to unbridled corruption coupled with rampant anti-people policies pursued by the UPA-II government. The Rahul charisma has failed to convince the Muslim voters as the Congress has taken them for granted time and again. The Muslim community has become prudent enough to understand the gimmicks like reservations for minorities and the purported Sonia Gandhis tear jerking over Batla House encounter. The Muslims have not trusted Mayawati also this time, as her social engineering had hardly done anything to the community during her five year rule. What is more welcome was the defeat of the BJP in Ayodhya, which
shall be construed as a slap in the face of the communal politics. Samajwadi Party should live up to its promises made to the Muslims in the state, to uplift them socio-economically by creating employment opportunities. The Congress at the Centre must draw a lesson from its debacle in the U.P and strive to implement the recommendations of Rajinder Sachar Committee and Ranganath Misra Commission reports, if it is seriously contemplating to win back the hearts of Muslim community in the 2014 general elections. Syed Sultan Mohiddin, Kadapa sultan_awaz@yahoo.co.in Change your taste Now when the electorates have cast their votes in 5 assembly elections and results are out, the government is indicating for a price rise on some goods and commodities of daily use. Shafaque Alam, New Delhi shafaquealam@gmail.com Role of US in Iran and Israel conflict The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) meet of March, 4-6 for US constitutional authorities, political commentators and media etc to address the AIPAC meet has sent clear signal to world community that Israel Prime Mister and President Netanyahu & Shimon Peres are in Washington to pressurize Obama to go for all out war against Iran (by first allowing Israel to strike against Iran and later on USA & Allies will be sucked in at immediately later stage). This preferably, (if not with war through UN due to veto of Russia and China then) with decisive simultaneous induced uprising by arming the rebels to teeth in Iran's ally Syria too. In this regard, Obama has already obliged Israel by his speech at AIPAC on Sunday that [We all prefer to resolve this issue diplomatically. Having said that, Irans leaders should have no doubt about the resolve of the United States, just as they should not doubt Israels sovereign right to make its own decisions about what is required to meet its security needs].How much confidence Israel will have in diplomatic resolution of this problem by USA in order to stop Iran's nuclear program and how much Israel will prefer Obama's advice to exercise Israels sovereign right to make its own decisions about what is required (euphemism for military action) to meet its security needs, is any body's guess Hem Raj Jain, Bangalur jainhemraj1945@gmail.com Italian ministers visit of India It is regrettable that external affairs minister should be allowed to visit India. The Italian marines have committed a grave mistake by killing our two fishermen in our ocean, we should impose punishment on the Italian who murdered the two fishermen as per the law of the land then we should allow the minister to enter in our country. Some days before one American has killed two Pakistanis. He was kept under arrest till the Americans paid the blood money to the kin of the deceased in the same way we should collect the blood money from the defaulters and release. If we allow the minister without the proper action taken it will be against the honour of our countrymen Dr. Abdul Hameed Maqdoomi, Hyderabad drmaqdoomi@yahoo.com Israelgreatest threat to world peace Israel is a Zionist, racist, terrorist. The Holy Quran says Jews had killed many prophets. The Christians blame Jews for hanging Jesus Christ. Israel has been the biggest symbol of terrorism in the world. It had killed UNOs mediator Count Bernadette in Israel in 1948. Expansionist Israel had forcefully occupied Palestinian lands and homes and made Palestinian Arab Muslims into a nation of refugees. Israels plan of demolishing mosque Al-AQSAthe first QIBLA of Islam and Muslims of the world is a matter of grave concern for the entire Muslim world. Gandhiji had strongly opposed the idea of Jewish state on Arab lands. Israel has been violating International Law and UN. Charter of human rights. Israel has been flouting hundreds of U.N. resolutions shamelessly. Recently an Iranian scientist was murdered by Israels Mossad on the street of Tehran. Israel had destroyed nuclear Reactor of Iraq. Now it wants to destroy nuclear facilities of Iran. Israel, a puppet of western imperialists, is an illegitimate nuclear power which has hundreds of nuclear warheads etc. Close relations with Israel are against Indias national interests. All the justice loving Indians, particularly 15 crores Indian Muslims, 16 crores Muslims of 22 Arab Asian and African countries and the entire Muslim world are against terrorist Israel.
