Remuneration package starts at Rs. 922,330 per annum (taxable). Background

The GOI-UNDP DRR programme is envisaged to support Central and State Government programmes and initiatives by providing critical inputs that would enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the efforts in Disaster Risk Reduction. The programme strives to strengthen the institutional structure to undertake Disaster Risk Reduction activities at various levels including risks being enhanced due to climate change and develop preparedness for recovery. The AUSAID-UNDP Climate Change Adaptation programme would further the approach by undertaking specific activities through integrated water management to enhance community resilience to disasters caused by hydro-meteorological phenomenon. The programme would undertake specific activities to enhance resilience of poor women and men to climate change and disaster risk by establishing climate change induced risk management capacities 1

(adaptation, disaster mitigation and risk reduction) and incorporate climate change adaptation measures in Disaster Management Plan through integrated water management activities in one district each from flood prone areas of Madhya Pradesh and Orissa State.
Functions / Key Results Expected

Project Officer (Integrated water Management Project) would work under the supervision of ACD (Disaster Management Unit) and Emergency Analyst. The PO would seek advice on technical issues related to Adaptive Water Management and climate resilient strategies from the nodal person in the Energy and Environment Unit and would work in consultation with the DRR Project officer looking after Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. The PO would provide support to the DM Unit in various functions listed below: 1. Assist in day-to-day coordination as required for implementation of integrated water Management Project to ensure consultation with Disaster Management and Energy and Environment Units of UNDP and NGOs involved in the project implementation. 2. Help in drafting technical notes, letters, reports and other materials as required with respect to project implementation. 3. Assist DM Unit in interfacing with responsible parties (NGOs- Orissa & MP) for monitoring implementation of the project activities as may be suggested by UNDP and flag deviations from the approved time schedules and delivery of outputs. 4. Assist in obtaining progress reports as per schedule, and highlight technical slippages, if any, to the attention of the Supervisors for remedial measures. 5. Support in advancement of gender issues in water resources management and capacity development, facilitate promotion of womens capacity development within IWRM framework; 6. Collect and analyse successful methodological approaches having relevance to various areas within the water sector (water supply, sanitation, water for agriculture, etc.); 7. Contribute to effective qualitative and quantitative reporting for dissemination of information 8. Contribute to Knowledge management initiatives under the project. 9. Perform other related activities as assigned by the supervisors. 10. Organize and participate in technical and monitoring consultations as per UNDP requirements 11. Review TOR and requests from the responsible parties and recommend actions, including release of funds as per the approved schedule 12. Scan the project activities and highlight areas where volunteerism can be promoted within the project framework 13. Any other related tasks assigned by the DM Unit. Knowledge & Skills required Good communication, drafting, skills. Good managerial skills, proficiency in general office automation, computers and IT enabled skills 2

Recruitment Qualifications Education: A Master degree in hydrology, water resources engineering, systems

ecology and/or geophysics, geography, or other relevant discipline


Experience:

Overall 6 years of experience with minimum 3 years of relevant experience, with regard to the implementation and management of climate change adaptation or disaster risk reduction, preferably with a water resources management focus.
Experience of working in the field of Disaster Management & climate change is desirable Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Hindi is essential
