SirlMadam, Some of the field offices have sought- for clarification with reference to para 2(b) of the Circular referred to above as to whether the benefit of one increment is to be allowed to the SOs, who were promoted as AAO between 0110112006 to 29/08/2008, in the same Pay Band and Grade Pay of ~ 48001- on their date of promotion as AAO, in case they opt for the revised pay structure w.e.f. 0110112006. 2. The matter has been examined and it is further clarified that in case of SOsl AAOs who opt for the revised pay structure w.e.f. 01/01/2006 the mode of fixation of pay in the revised pay structure shall be as detailed below:(i) In case of SOs in position as on 0110112006 who have been promoted as AAO between 01101/2006 to 29/0812008 and opt for fixation of their pay w.e.f. 01/0112006, their pay in the revised pay structure will be fixed with reference to stage given for their pre-revised basic pay in the fitment table for the scale of ~ 6500-200-105001- annexed with Finance Ministry's OM No. 11l12008-IC dated 3010812008. Since in the revised pay structure the posts of SO and AAO have been merged and placed in Pay Band 2 with Grade Pay of ~ 48001- and the merged posts of SO and AAO has been re-designated as AAO, their earlier promotion as AAO between 0110112006 to 29/0812008 in the pre-revised pay scale shall be treated as null and void and no further promotion benefit shall be admissible to them in the same Grade Pay of~ 48001-.

(ii) In case of AAOs in position as on 0110112006, who opt for fixation of their pay in the revised pay structure w.e.f 0110112006 - their pay in the revised pay structure will be fixed with reference to stage given for their pre-revised basic pay in the fitment table for the scale of ~ 7450-225-11500/- annexed with Finance Ministry'S OM No. 11112008-IC dated 30108/2008. (iii) In case of persons promoted as SO between 0110112006 to 29/0812008, who opt for fixation of pay in the revised pay structure w.e.f 0110112006 - their pay shall be fixed in the revised pay structure with reference to stage given for their pre-revised basic pay in the fitment tables : for their post held in respective lower cadres i.e. LDC/ Auditor! Accountant/Senior Accountant/Senior Auditor/Steno etc. as annexed with Finance Ministry'S OM No. 1I112008-IC dated 30/0812008. Consequent upon promotion as SO after 0110112006 their pay will be fixed by granting them one increment in the pay band (subject to minimum pay in the Pay Band ~ 9300) and Grade pay of ~ 4800/-. 3. Further, in the circular ibid the pre-revised up-graded pay of the merged cadre of SO and AAO (re-designated as AAO in the revised pay structure) has been inadvertently mentioned as ~ 7500-250-12500 which may be read and corrected as (7500-250-12000. It is also clarified that the benefit of fixation of pay at the minimum stage of ~ 13950 in the revised pay structure with reference to the pre-revised up-graded scale of <' 7500-250-12000 shall be admissible to only such persons whose pay in the pre-revised promoted post of SOl AAO is less than ~ 7500. In case of persons whose pay has been fixed at the stage of <' 7500 or above in the promoted prerevised scale of SOl AAO and who opt for fixation of pay in the revised pay structure from date of their promotion as SOl AAO, their pay in the revised pay structure will be fixed with reference to stage given for their pre-revised basic pay in the fitment table for the scale of <' 650010500n450-225-11500/annexed with Finance Ministry's OM No. 1I112008-IC dated 30/08/2008. 4.
