WHAT IS FASHION?
Fashion is the accepted day to day way of dressing at a given time. If you see everyone wearing the same color or style when they have not been the trend before, such is "infashion." Fashion is the total outlook of an individual of today and only for today. Through fashion evolves and some styles come back, it only applys for "now". Even the retro fashion is never the same. Never has and never will.
Evolution of Fashion
Who hasnt heard something about the most representative eras of fashion, like 1950s, hippies age, disco fever, or grunge? All these ideologies have made an important change through the time. There is a great evolution through the fashion of the 1900s to the 1990s and it involves different ideologies, dress trends, shoes and hairstyles. Im going to mention only the most representative eras of fashion.
1900s
1910s
At the beginning of 20th century fashion was incredibly extravagant, elaborate, ornated. During the 1910s the fashionable silhouette became much more lithe, fluid and soft. During the 1920s corsets were abandoned and women borrowed their clothes from the male wardrobe and chose to dress like boys. During the 1930s sportswear became fashionable.
1920s
1930s
The 1940s were the era of feminine 1940s glamour in fashion. Women used to use long elegant dresses and hats of every shape and size. The 1950s were known for jackets and shorter skirts. In the 1960s miniskirt and pants became commonplace for women. The hippie subcultures emerged. 1970s fashion began with a continuation of the mini skirts, bellbottoms and the androgynous hippie look . In the 1990s oversized t-shirts and 1960s sweatshirts, overalls, wind pants, straight-leg jeans and baggy jeans were popular.
1950s
1970s
1990s
Dinasty
The French fashion designer who best defined the look of the period was Thierry Mugler .Strongly influenced by his early career in the theater, Thierry Mugler produced fashion designs which combined Hollywood retro and futurism with rounded hips, sharply accentuated shoulders, and a slight hint of the galactic heroine. Christian Lacroix sent shock waves through the world of haute couture with his flounced skirts, embroidered corsets and polkadotted crinolines which evoked the rhythms of flamenco.
Fashion icons of the 1980s Madonna The it girl of the 1980s, Madonna is arguable one of the most stylish and influential icons of all time. Famous for her eccentricity and provocative nature, girls were trying to emulate her during the 1980s. Madonna began many trends including wearing short skirts over capri pants. Often seen in garters, lacy stockings and wild, teased hair, Madonna wasnt short of being controversial.
Michael Jackson With one glove, Michael Jackson influenced the world. His simple flashy style was as compelling as his music. He was a stylish young man of the 1970s-1980s, with his afro and well put together look, including vests with wide collared shirts, printed and striped pants, and suits. He was quite the little fashion plate, even at eleven years old. After separating from the Jackson Five, he started developing his own sense of fashion.
Personal opinion
Fashion is one of womens pleasures in life. Through fashion a person can express his/her personality. I have chosen this subject because nowadays fashion is inspired from the 1980s period. It is important for people to know something about the clothes they wear.I think they should know how to dress!Unfortunately Romanian people are known for their tasteless way of dressing-KITSCH .We must feel comfortable and beautiful in our clothes and we should wear not only what is in fashion but also what fits us. Personality should be reflected in what you wear!
