Goals vs. Objectives

Goal is broad, overarching idea that you want your students to be able to achieve. Affective goals must be present.
Objectives are the actions, or I Can statements your students will do during each lesson that lead them to the understanding of the goals. Examples:
Topic: Plants Goals: TLW understand a plant life cycle. TLW appreciate plant life and how it grows. TLW Objectives: TLW write three sentences about how a plant grows. TLW create a plant diagram labeling the parts of a plant. TLW draw

What is it that you want your students to be able to do by the end of your unit?

Write Some Goals!

Use the ideas presented to begin writing your goals. These will be works in progress, but you MUST know where you want your students to BE before you can begin to write your unit! Always think end before beginning!!! Take your curriculum maps/standards, etc and use that information to guide you in writing your goals.

ITIP Lesson 1
Use a variety of teaching/learning styles, Multiple Intelligences, best practices, special needs accommodations, integration of subjects, hands-on learning, cooperative learning, affective learning, diversity, and technology etc. These first lessons will work at the knowledge and comprehension levels of Blooms. A good rule of thumb is to make this as engaging as possible (limit the worksheets). Objectives are measureable and specific. What will the learner do? A Look at some Examples

RUBRICS/Assessment

Assessment Links
What types of assessments would be appropriate for your students?

Introductory/Culminatin g
Creativity is KEY here!
Introductory Lesson does not have to be a full ITIP lesson, but does need to have components of an ITIP (anticipatory set, guided practice, etc)

What can you do/use to HOOK your students and to get them wanting to know more about the topic?
Culminating Lesson is usually a full ITIP, but depends on the outcomes. Will you play Jeopardy? Will they do a group project? How will you put closure to their learning? This can be done before or after assessment occurs.
