Building Healthy Communities and Building Healthy Youth AmeriCorps Mentor

Eleven-month, full-time and half-time positions are available for AmeriCorps members to serve as mentors in 10 California communities starting August 20, 2012 and ending July 20, 2013. Applicants must be available to work site-specific schedules during the term of service.

Responsibilities and Duties


AS A MENTOR: Under general supervision, to implement the Building Healthy Communities and Building Healthy Youth AmeriCorps programs by providing the following direct services:* mentor targeted youth using curriculum materials and training provided by program maintain accurate and current records of youth contact and service work in collaboration with agency staff to monitor youth progress appraise youth progress using evaluation instruments provided by AmeriCorps serve as a mentor and positive role model to target youth
*specific mentor duties will vary across program sites

AS AN AMERICORPS TEAM MEMBER: serve as a resource to the Building Healthy Communities local hubs participate in and organize events to strengthen communities recruit and coordinate community volunteers participate in team meetings and other events promoting the AmeriCorps identity participate in and reflect on community service experiences participate in on-going job specific training LIVING ALLOWANCE AND BENEFITS: Full-time (approx. 36 hrs/week) $1300 monthly living allowance Half-time (approx. 19 hrs/week) $700 monthly living allowance Child care benefits (for eligible full-time Members) Health insurance benefits (for eligible full-time Members) $5,550 full-time ($2,775 for half-time) education award** upon satisfactorily completing eleven months of service and 1,700 hours for full-time (900 hours for half-time)
**The education award can only be used to pay back student loans or for future college tuition and expenses.
