2554 Wave Transmission Coefficient of the Wave Screen Case Study at Pilot Station Mr. Kumpanart Chewapreecha Prof. Dr. Chaiyuth Chinarasri Master of Engineering Civil Engineering Technology Civil Engineering

Abstract Port operation need to be in calm area. Achieving this objective by rubble mound breakwater which is conventional method sometime leads to environmental impact such as shoreline change, deterioration of seawater in harbor basin, etc. To reduce these side effects, initiation of other structure is enquired. In Thailand 2012, 2 wave screens had been installed as mean for wave protection. One were installed at 10 m water depth at pilot station Samuth Prakarn, another had been installed at 5 m water depth at Ao Chalong Marina in Phuket. This research takes wave screen at pilot station as the case study. The objectives are to determine influence factors, developing equation to predicting its performance, and to determine its effectiveness. End result of the study is to have means to improving wave screen performance and to have clear alternative for wave protection in environmental sensitive area. The research which in general is the analysis of field data obtained conclusion that wave transmission coefficient (Kt) which determined from ratio of wave height behind wave screen to wave height before wave screen (Ht/Hi) depends to wave characteristics, sea climate, and wave screen properties. It works well in shallow water but very fluctuate when ratio of water depth to wave length (h/L) closed 0.5 which is the criteria of deep water. Empirical formula developed within scope of measured wave and physical properties of wave screen installed at pilot station conclude that Kt has direct relationship with distance between wave screens and water depth but diverse relationship with square of wave period and draft. Its coefficient and constant parameters depend to approach angle and number of wave screen which work simultaneously. Regarding to wave-screen effectiveness, field data revealed its range between 0.5 88.9%, average 66.8%
