Laporan Kerja Praktek Departemen Operasi Kaltim-4 ABSTRACT PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur Tbk is one of the biggest fertilizer

plant in the world. There are four plants and each of them consits of three units they are Utility, Ammonia, and Urea plant. There is also a plant that only produce urea, called POPKA. Utility is used to produce cooling water from sea water in order to used as coolant process in the equipments that need cooling process. Sea water was treated to decrease the content of salinity, mineral, and microorganism to prevent the corrosion of the pipes and the equipments of the plant. Steam production also obtained from Utility, most of steam used as heating agent and turbin mover. Ammonia Plant produce ammonia and CO2 as reactant to produce urea. In Ammonia plant, raw material of syn gas comes from natural gas that sent by Pertamina. CO2 is the side product in Ammonia plant in which it was removed from syn gas mixtures by MDEA solution in Absorber column. The final product in Ammonia plant is ammonia liquid. NH3 and CO2 are then sent to Urea plant. There are two kinds of product, urea prill and urea granul, that differ in size. Ammonium carbamate is the byproduct in the process reaction, it then be recycled with unreacted NH3 and CO2 to the reactor again. The special task of this Practical Trainee is the Evaluation of Performance CO2 Removal Unit with ASPEN Program concern about determine the ability of absorber to absorb CO2 and Demand of Vapour (Heat) Utilization in AbsorberStripper. MDEA solution used to absorb CO2 must be regenerated in Stripper column so it will be able to used again and produce concentrated CO2. The only one source of heat in CO2 Removal at Kaltim-4 is Stripper Reboiler that utilize the heat of effluent gas from Low Temperature Shift (LTS). From the simulation was known CO2 product top absorber (to methanator) for design are 0.02% volume and for actual in January 16, 2012 are 0.05% volume. CO2 product top stripper (to urea plant) for design are 1664.35 tone/day (97,82%volume) and for actual in January 16, 2012 are 1579.04tone/day (97,56%volume). It showed that the system of CO2 removal kept so well that the CO2 loss from the system is less.
