Self-Evaluation: Seema Jain List of accomplishments/contributions in 2011-12:

Section 1 Teaching and Working with Students

Created the clinic binder which I created from numerous sheets to one binder for DENT 121, 131 and 211 courses. (Applies to section 2 and section 4 too) Used dropbox from dropbox.com for all my courses along with Angel LMS. Very convenient! Improved power points for my courses DENT 115, 214: by inserting videos to cater to different learning style; Deleted paragraphs with bulleted sentences to keep it short and non-monotonous. Took lot of Jing captures from real patients radiographs and intra-oral photos, to utilize in my lectures for better understanding of the concept I am teaching e.g. mixed dentition radiographs. Created many recap activities for lecture topics covered. Also recap activities for labs. Section 2 Working with Faculty and Staff Helped in Dental Hygiene program accreditation process by doing various jobs. Have organized dental clinic carts for better flow of procedures/labs. Worked with dentists and staff for Velscope by providing links and videos for training purposes. Taught myself how to use Isolite (dental equipment for isolation) and started using it and promoting the use of it in clinic. Helped (whenever I could) my colleagues with computer and radiology related queries. Created tickets for helpdesk on behalf of colleagues when they had trouble with computers. My ongoing jobs: creating clinical rotations, syllabi, communicating with front office and staff. Section 3 Service to the College, Community, and Industry Held two training seminars at company named Aseptico about dental terms and procedure. Aseptico manufactures dental equipment so the company wants employees to have basic knowledge of dental terms and procedures. Obliged to get opportunity do good PR for college. Worked with Roberta, Director of Dental Assisting Program from Seattle Vocational Institute, by providing LWIT dental program forms and related information. Participated in disciplinary actions related meetings for last year graduating class. Participated actively in tenure meetings for Peter Welty. I am minute-taker for the meetings. Did peer-evaluation for Peter and contributed towards tenure report by formatting documents. Section 4 Program Management and Advancement Scanned all the MSDS sheets from clinic to keep as electronic data. Also searched MSDS electronic versions too. (applies to section 2 also) Updated all clinic forms from LWTC to LWIT. Enforced global outcomes (better than before) in all my courses. Attended and participated in advisory meetings and advisory dinner. Section 5 Professional Development and Improvement Took 12 credit hours of CE courses to maintain certification of dental assisting. Also received Certificate of Achievement for 5 years as Certified Dental assistant. Completed CPR and First Aid training expires in 2013. Received Certificate of Completion for HIPAA and WISHA training. Completed Sexual harassment and Discrimination Prevention training Completed Digital Charting Workshop clinical procedures and digital radiography Improved power points for my courses DENT 115, 214: by inserting videos to cater to different learning style; Deleted paragraphs with bulleted sentences to keep it short and non-monotonous. Learned how to use Isolite (dental equipment for isolation).

Areas for growth: I feel satisfied with my progress last year with my course material and working with students, faculty and staff. I feel content by seeing tenure candidates growth. But I want to do better in many areas. I want to utilize different resources to cater to students by giving them accessibility to class lectures recordings and/or tegrity, but I have tried many times this year but there has been always some non-resolvable problems with tegrity and Firefox version / media cast not working in A 202 etc. I have taken the training and hope I can start using some of the resources this year. Would like to work with Evolve Elsevier textbook website administrator to get new resources (like page burst) they have for instructors and students. Would like to train new co-instructor Jessica Peyton for DENT 113 lab. This will be her first time teaching this course with me. I will create more recap activities for my feedback about how well students understand the lecture and lab. I have done lots of them in the past year and students love them. Want to insert motivational quotes, funny and eye-catching pictures in between slides before switching to different topic. Reorganize the clinic binder for printing purposes: color pages separate from black and white. Would like to create lecture notes / binder for DENT 115 to bring important course material together from two books into one place.

Over all a great year of growth!
