Engineered wood is real wood, but instead of one solid piece it consists of three to 10 thin layers of wood, called plies, that are assembled and glued in a cross-ply construction. The top layer of wood can range from 0.6mm to 6mm thickness. Overall board thickness ranges from 10mm to 21mm. Engineered wood is much more stable than solid wood and is less susceptible to shrinking and expanding with changes in temperatures and humidity.

"CLICK" SYSTEMS: A "click" floor is similar to tongue-and-groove, but instead of fitting directly into the groove, the board must be angled or "tapped" in to make the curved or barbed tongue fit into the modified groove.
Glue Down
Wood flooring can also be glued-down. A layer of plastic is placed onto the sub-floor . The wood pieces are then laid on top of the glue and hammered into place using a rubber mallet and nail.
Sanding Sanding provides a method for smoothing an installed floor, compensating for unevenness of the subfloor. Additionally, sanding is used to renew the appearance of older floors.

Ensure that the background to be adhered to is thoroughly dry, solidly bedded, and free from dust and friable matter before starting to tile. Some fixers will paint the sub-floor with a bonding agent White cement adhesive should be used as coloured cement may seep through to the face of the stone.
