ABSTRACT
Ready mix concrete is a type of concrete that is manufactured in a factory or batching plant, according to a set recipe, and then delivered to a work site, by truck mounted transit mixers. This results in a precise mixture, allowing specialty concrete mixtures to be developed and implemented on construction sites. The first ready-mix factory was built in the 1930s, but the industry did not begin to expand significantly until the 1960s, and it has continued to grow since then. Ready-mix concrete is sometimes preferred over on-site concrete mixing because of the precision of the mixture and reduced work site confusion. However, using a pre-determined concrete mixture reduces flexibility, both in the supply chain and in the actual components of the concrete. Ahlcon-Ready Mix Concrete Integrated use of technology blended with human values makes it possible for us to deliver domain specific customization and generic solutions. Ahlcon RMC deploys a variety of systems in order to contribute to a clean environment and recycle natural resources, especially water. CONCRETE PUMPS
A concrete pump is a tool used for transferring liquid concrete by pumping. There are two types of concrete pumps. The first type of concrete pump is attached to a truck. It is known as a trailer-mounted boom concrete pump because it uses a remote-controlled articulating robotic arm (called a boom) to place concrete with pinpoint accuracy. Boom pumps are used on most of the larger construction projects as they are capable of pumping at very high volumes and because of the labour saving nature of the placing boom. They are a revolutionary alternative to truck-mounted concrete pumps. The second main type of concrete pump is either mounted on a truck and known as a truckmounted concrete pump or placed on a trailer, and it is commonly referred to as a line pump or trailer-mounted concrete pump. This pump requires steel or rubber concrete placing hoses to be manually attached to the outlet of the machine. Those hoses are linked together and lead to wherever the concrete needs to be placed. Line pumps normally pump concrete at lower volumes than boom pumps and are used for smaller volume concrete placing applications such as swimming pools, sidewalks, and single family home concrete slabs and most ground slabs. There are also skid mounted and rail mounted concrete pumps, but these are uncommon and only used on specialized jobsites such as mines and tunnels. Concrete pumps are mainly of five types Truck mounted concrete pumps Stationary concrete pumps Truck mixer concrete pumps Shotcrete machines Tunnel concrete pumps

10

TRUCK MOUNTED CONCRETE PUMPS

Truck mounted concrete pumps are heavy-duty construction machinery used for conveying, spraying and placing concrete.

STATIONARY CONCRETE PUMPS

Stationary pumps find their applications in all aspects of civil, mining and tunneling however it is in the high rise pumping application where they are most put to use. The stationary pump is responsible for most of today great architectural and engineering wonders. They are capable of pumping concrete several hundred meters high and over distances several kilometers long. Areas of application:

Concrete high-rise conveying Concrete long-distance conveying Tunnel construction Special applications

11

TRUCK MIXER CONCRETE PUMPS

It is basically a combination of pump, mixer and placing boom in a single machine. The advantages are-:

Small jobs make money. Develop new markets and new customers. 4 to 5 jobs per day. Only one truck means less organization effort on site.

MACHINES SHOTCRETE

Shotcrete machines are used to convey concrete through a hose and pneumatically project it at high velocity onto the surface.

12

TUNNEL CONCRETE PUMPS

Tunnel concrete pumps are machines used in tunnel concreting.

PUTZMEISTER
Putzmeister Concrete Machines Pvt. Ltd. is a fully owned Indian subsidiary of Putzmeister Concrete Pumps GmbH, Germany -- an acknowledged world leader and global supplier of concrete pumps, tunnel machines, industrial pumps and mortar machines. As the pioneer of research & development in concrete pumping technology, Putzmeister is committed to offering the best and latest innovations to India as well as the world. Though the company already has manufacturing operations in Germany, US, China, Turkey, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, UK, South Africa and South Korea, it is looking at India as a major market for its products. The companys 100,000 sq m state-of-the-art plant at Goa was the first to roll out bigger boom pumps from India. The facility started assembly of 32m boom pumps in October 2008. In March 2009, it introduced 36m boom pumps -- making them the first such truck mounted products, approved as per weight norms for Indian roads, in the country. These also helped Putzmeister to corner over half of the total boom pump market in India. Putzmeister has now launched a truck mounted 42m boom pump. And followed it up by introducing the breakthrough truck mounted 46m boom pump -- that has brought never-before capability, reach and efficiency in mobile concrete pumping in India. Putzmeister is simultaneously offering a wide range of stationary concrete pumps for nearly all applications. The latest addition to the product range is the high pressure stationary concrete pumps BSA 1404HD. The pump is a special development for India and can effortlessly pump concrete up to heights of 100m. At the same time the pump is available with 3 different engines and is the most fuel efficient trailer pump in India.

14

PUTZMEISTER BSA 1404HD

BSA1404HD is a high pressure pump that caters to concrete pumping to 80~100m building heights. This pump has smaller towing length for better manoeuvrability in narrow areas thus most suitable for RMC pumping contractors and infrastructure companies. Apart from providing the benefit of better fuel economy, the pump is available in various drive options of Kirloskar, Simpson, Deutz as well as electric versions (BSA 1403HE). The newly introduced stationary pump further lowers the impact of concrete on its wear parts thus giving 50~80% more life.

PNEUMATIC CONTROLLER

A controller is a comparative device that receives an input signal from a measured process variable, compares this value with that of a predetermined control point value (set point), and determines the appropriate amount of output signal required by the final control element to provide corrective action within a control loop.

A Pneumatic Controller is a mechanical device designed to measure temperature or pressure and transmit a corrective air signal to the final control element.

Principles of Operation Pneumatic Controller operates through a coordination of its thermal or pressure sensing system and its air signal relay system. The controllers sensing bulb or pressure connection, installed within the process application, senses change within the measured variable and relays this information (input signal) to the controller. The Controller mechanically compares the signal against a predetermined set point and sends a corrective air signal to a pneumatic control valve, which modulates process flow, thereby returning the application to the desired condition.

Selecting a Pneumatic Controller Pneumatic Controllers can be specified for either on/off or proportional control. Processes which are characterized by stable load conditions can be controlled using on/off control with a quick-opening control valve, providing a full corrective response to a minimal change in the measured variable. Applications with unstable load conditions, or those requiring precise control, are best maintained using proportional control and an equal percentage valve trim design, which gives a corrective response that is proportionate to the change in the measured variable.

23

Proportional (P) Proportional control reacts to the size of the deviation from set point when sending a corrective signal. The size of the corrective signal can be adjusted in relation to the size of the error by changing the width of the proportional band. A narrow proportional band will cause a large corrective action in relation to a given amount of error, while a wider proportional band will cause a smaller corrective action in relation to the same amount of error.

On/Off (I/0) On/Off control recognizes only that a deviation exists. Any deviation between the set point and measured process variable will produce a full corrective signal.

24

LOAD CELL

LOAD CELL

Load cells are integrated sensors that measure weights and output continuous electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic analog signals. They are used throughout industry and in a wide range of consumer applications. Load cells perform weighing operations that used to be accomplished with mechanical force or motion-balance devices. The sliding weight scale in the doctor's office is an example of the latter. There are load cells for measuring weights from a few grams of fine sand to those for hundreds of tons.

A load cell is a transducer which converts force into a measurable electrical output. Although there are many varieties of load cells, strain gage based load cells are the most commonly used type.

25

Load Cell History

Before strain gage-based load cells became the method of choice for industrial weighing applications, mechanical lever scales were widely used. Mechanical scales can weigh everything from pills to railroad cars and can do so accurately and reliably if they are properly calibrated and maintained. The method of operation can involve either the use of a weight balancing mechanism or the detection of the force developed by mechanical levers. The earliest, pre-strain gage force sensors included hydraulic and pneumatic designs. In 1843, English physicist Sir Charles Wheatstone devised a bridge circuit that could measure electrical resistances. The Wheatstone bridge circuit is ideal for measuring the resistance changes that occur in strain gages. Although the first bonded resistance wire strain gage was developed in the 1940s, it was not until modern electronics caught up that the new technology became technically and economically feasible. Since that time, however, strain gages have proliferated both as mechanical scale components and in stand-alone load cells. Today, except for certain laboratories where precision mechanical balances are still used, strain gage load cells dominate the weighing industry. Pneumatic load cells are sometimes used where intrinsic safety and hygiene are desired, and hydraulic load cells are considered in remote locations, as they do not require a power supply. Strain gage load cells offer accuracies from within 0.03% to 0.25% full scale and are suitable for almost all industrial applications.

Operating Principle Most load cells employ motion or force balance strain gages to generate a continuous electrical analog output signal that a user can view on a digital readout device. Strain gages are extremely thin resistive strips of electrically conductive wire or foil that are bonded to specially shaped metal springs or brackets. As weight is applied to the brackets, they deform slightly because of the load. This either elongates and stretches the strain gage, increasing its electrical resistance, or shortens and compresses it, decreasing resistance. This variable resistance is compared to several fixed resistances in a DC powered bridge circuit, and the output amplified and sent as a voltage to the analog input of a digital readout. The readout is application-specific meaning the readout is

26

in the weight units desired such as ounces, pounds, grams or kilograms desired instead of the voltage the meter really sees.

Pneumatic Load Cells

Pneumatic load cells operate on the force-balance principle. These devices use multiple dampener chambers to provide higher accuracy than can a hydraulic device. In some designs, the first dampener chamber is used as a tare weight chamber. Pneumatic load cells are often used to measure relatively small weights in industries where cleanliness and safety are of prime concern. The advantages of this type of load cell include their being inherently explosion proof and insensitive to temperature variations. Additionally, they contain no fluids that might contaminate the process if the diaphragm ruptures. Disadvantages include relatively slow speed of response and the need for clean, dry, regulated air or nitrogen.

Performance

Weight Range : Wide Accuracy : high Applications: ready-mix concrete plants, food industries, hazardous areas. Strength: Intrinsically safe. Contains no fluids. Weakness: slow response, requires clean dry air.

Advantages less costly devices, clean operation and lower maintenance costs. The start/stop control is replaced by motion controllers that controls shock and wear allowing machines and equipment to last longer. Once the pneumatic system has been set up and tuned, it can be controlled much like any typical hydraulic or electric servo system. precision and smooth motion

27

Disadvantages The major drawback is the compressibility of air. This drawback has been minimized with new motion control techniques.

APPLICATIONS

1. Force Testing / Material Testing / Concrete Crush Test

28

2. Level Controller As illustrated in this application the volume of a single or multiple container of any shape or form can be monitored and controlled during an automated process using load cells and instrumentations to display the values while activating or deactivating the system as required utilizing the instrument built-in alarm set point or interfacing with a PLC computer

29

3. Bag Filling Machine oad cell system can be used in an automated assembly-line bag filling application. As shown the upper conveyor loads parts into a hanging container. The container is connected to a load cell. The load cell monitors the weight of the container, once it reaches the preset weight the upper conveyor stops or slows down and the container gate is released to feed the bags on the lower conveyor. Then it closed the gate and will restart the upper conveyor for filling process again. It can control both gates & the conveyor using 2 separate alarm set points or analog output and plc or computer system.

30

4. Tank Dispensing

load cells are used to control material distribution while monitoring the tank level. The load cell with in-line amplifier can be directly connected to a plc or computer for feedback control. A sound alarm can be connected to the plc, computer or the display to Alarm when the process is completed or the tank is full or empty.

31

5. Viscosity / Liquid Separation

This particular application is used in batching or mixing of multiple chemicals. By measuring the viscosity, you can determine when to stop adding a liquid to the mix. As shown here, the table can be lifted so that the probe reaches the liquid in the tank. The probe can also be brought down into the liquid. Once the probe is in the liquid, a certain amount of tension is required to pull the probe back out. The thicker the liquid, the higher the viscosity is and the harder it is to pull the probe out. The load cell measures this tension and transfers the data to a display.

LIMIT SWITCH
Limit switches are a type of sensor that detect presence and absence. Specifically, mechanical limit switches are switches that are mechanically activated, meaning that they have some sort of arm, lever, knob, plunger, etc., which is physicallyor mechanicallyactivated by making contact with another object. As the object makes contact with the actuator of the switch, it eventually moves the actuator to its limit where the contacts change state. Other varieties of sensors/switches exist, including proximity sensors, light sensors, electric switches, among others.

FUNCTIONS In its simplest form, a limit switch is a switch that can be mounted into remote locations so that it is actuated by an object other than a human operator. Some basic functions of limit switches are: Detecting presence/absence Counting Detecting range of movement Detecting positioning & travel limit Breaking a live circuit when unsafe conditions arise Detecting speed and hundreds of other applications Limit switches are a problem-solving product. There is often no right answer as to which switch can be used in any given situation. Usually product choice is left to the user to determine how he can best utilize the switch. Mechanical limit switches can be found in any industrial or commercial application where detection or safety is needed.

42

STRENGTHS

Switching high currents is no problem (up to 10A) High precision, accuracy, and repeatability Economic sensing solution Can withstand most environments.

WEAKNESSES

Must make physical contact with an object to actuate Mechanical component can wear out

APPLICATIONS Working where people cannot. Material handling packaging, moving, warehousing, distribution Food & beverage packaging, distribution Manufacturing automotive/heavy equipment, machining, marine/aviation, glass & plastics Metals mining, refining, processing, forming Commercial applications Control cabinets Etc.

Product variations
Mechanical limit switch operators are available in many shapes and sizes based on their functionality and application. Switches can be divided into two types: momentary and maintained. Momentary, or spring return switches return to their normal state as soon as the actuator is released from the object it is sensing. Maintained switches will remain in the actuated position even after the actuator has been released. Some common operator heads and their applications are further discussed below.

43

A-Shape & E-shape:

Roller lever Levers and roller levers actuate radially, that is they rotate on an axis. Roller levers are tipped with a roller to lessen the friction and the force required to activate the lever. Levers spring-return to neutral when the force is removed. This is one of the most popular styles of switch operators.

Adjustable roller lever Similar to a standard roller lever, but the length of the lever is adjustable anywhere from a few millimeters to up to 5 centimeters. The rollers are also available in various diameters.

B-Shape:

Rounded plunger Plunger heads come in many varieties and sizes. Plungers are actuated by a perpendicular force applied directly to the end of the plunger.

C-Shape:

Roller plunger When a plunger switch is needed, but the force will not be applied directly at a 90 angle, a roller plunger can be used. The roller translates some of the nonperpendicular force into perpendicular force that can actuate the plunger.
D-Shape:
Rod lever

Rod levers are also actuated radially like levers; however these are thin rods that are much longer. Adjustable rods can be as long as 10 or more centimetres.

F-Shape:

Lateral rounded plunger This plunger head varies from the standard B-shape in that the plunger is perpendicular to the switch.

G-Shape:

Lateral roller plunger This plunger head varies from the standard C-shape in that the plunger is perpendicular to the switch.

There are four complete series of limit switches designed for most types of industrial or commercial environments. The following pages explain the differences and benefits of the various ranges: Metallic Industrial Strength Non-metallic General Purpose/Economical Miniature Compact Safety Reliable

The Metallic, Non-metallic, and Safety series are all physically interchangeable and share the same body design across the product range. The miniature pre-wired range is a specially designed compact line of switches available in 30mm (standardized) and 35mm widths.

Mechanical limit switches are sized by their width, and the most common mounting dimensions in the U.S. are 30mm and 40mm. ABBs switches are available in 30, 40, and 60mm widths. All of ABBs mechanical limit switches are available as either fullyassembled units or as component parts.
