Kindlon challenges Soares to series of debates

Today, Lee Kindlon, Democratic candidate for Albany County District Attorney, called on incumbent DA David Soares to finally accept his challenge to a series of public debates. Last December, after announcing his candidacy, Kindlon invited Soares to participate in a monthly series of Conversations with the Candidates. Soares declined Kindlons invitation, replying "After we find out when the election will be held, and candidates have qualified for the ballot, Im sure we'll have some good conversations." On July 9, Kindlon wrote Soares, once again asking the Incumbent DA to participate in public forums. The DA is out of excuses, Kindlon said. The election is set, we have both qualified for the ballot its time to debate. Kindlon continued, Mr. Soares has been in office for nearly eight years. Its time for him to finally answer questions about his record, not run from it. I hope the DA will accept my challenge. Kindlon is proposing four public debates across Albany County between now and Election Day, September 13. ### Below, please find a letter from Kindlon which was delivered to Soares on July 10. Lee C. In December, my campaign extended an invitation to you to participate with me in a monthly series of Conversations with the Candidates. Unfortunately, you turned down our invitation, replying: "After we find out when the election will be held, and candidates have qualified for the ballot, Im sure we'll have some good conversations. Between now and then, those of who us who fight crime for a living have a lot of work to do." We know when the election will be held. To your second point, my campaign, fueled by tremendous grassroots support, has secured enough petitions to qualify for the ballot. If youre confident that you obtained the requisite number of signatures, I respectfully suggest that we immediately set up a series of debates. If you agree to participate this time, our respective campaigns can begin to work out the details of the debates. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely,

Lee Kindlon
