APPLICATION SOFTWARE
Application software is basically designed for end users to assist them and make more proficient in their work like Educational, Business, and Personal tasks or for various projects etc.

OR
Application software utilizes the capacities of a computer directly to a dedicated task. It enables to manipulate text, numbers and graphics depending on the software and its type. It can be in the form of software, focused on a certain single task such as Word Processing, Spread Sheet or playing of Audio and Video files.

Different Types of Application Software:

Some of the types of Application software are:

Enterprise software.
Enterprise application software is application software that performs business functions such as order processing, procurement, production scheduling, customer information management, and accounting. It is typically hosted on servers and provides simultaneous services to a large number of users, typically over a computer network. This is in contrast to a single-user application that is executed on a user's personal computer and serves only one user at a time. (Examples include financial systems, customer relationship management (CRM) systems and -chain management software)

Information worker software It addresses the needs of individuals to create and manage information, often for individual projects within a department, in contrast to enterprise management. Examples include time management, resource management, documentation tools, analytical, and collaborative. Word processors, spreadsheets, email and blog clients, personal information system, and individual media editors may aid in multiple information worker tasks. Content access software It is software used primarily to access content without editing, but may include software that allows for content editing. Such software addresses the needs of individuals and groups to consume digital entertainment and published digital content. (Examples include Media Players, Web Browsers, Help browsers and Games)

Educational software
It is related to content access software, but has the content and/or features adapted for use in by educators or students. For example, it may deliver evaluations (tests), track progress through material, or include collaborative capabilities.

 Simulation software This computer software is used for simulation of physical or abstract systems for research, training or entertainment purposes.

Media development software

It addresses the needs of individuals who generate print and electronic media for others to consume, most often in a commercial or educational setting. This includes graphic-art software, desktop publishing software, multimedia development software, HTML editors, digital-animation editors, digital audio and video composition, and many others.

Mobile applications (mobile apps)

Runs on hand-held devices such as smart phones, tablet computers, portable media players, personal digital assistants and enterprise digital assistants : see mobile application development.

Presentation Software:
The software that is used to display information in the form of a slide show is known as presentation software. This type of software includes three functions, namely, editing that allows insertion and formatting of text, methods to include graphics in the text and a functionality of executing the slide shows. Microsoft PowerPoint is the best example of presentation software.

Examples of Application Software

Few examples are: Enterprise Software: It deals with the needs of organization processes and data flow. The customer relationship management or the financial processes in an organization are carried out by means of enterprise software. Information Worker Software: Individual projects within a department and individual needs of creation and management of information are handled by information worker software. Documentation tools, resource management tools and personal management systems fall under the category of this form of application software.

 Educational Software: It has the capabilities of running tests and tracking progress. It also has the capabilities of collaborative software. It is often used in teaching and self-learning. Simulation Software: Used to simulate physical or abstract systems, simulation software finds applications in both, research and entertainment. Flight simulators and scientific simulators find a place in the list of simulation software.

Content Access Software: It is used to access content without editing. The common examples of content access software are web browsers and media players.

Database Software: Database is a structured collection of data. A computer database relies on

database software to organize the data and enable the database users to achieve database operations. Database software allows the users to store and retrieve data from databases. Examples are Oracle, MS Access, etc.

Spreadsheet Software: MS Excel, Lotus 1-2-3 and Apple Numbers are some best examples of
spreadsheet software. Spreadsheet software allows users to perform calculations. They simulate paper worksheets by displaying multiple cells that make up a grid.

Thus we see that application software have made it possible for users to interact with the computer systems. Application software has served as a boon in harnessing the computing power in the accomplishment of certain important individual and organizational tasks.

OPEN OFFICE:Open office is a great alternative for the Microsoft Office as it contains out of the box functionality like converting files to PDF which Microsoft Office does not provide. Open office can be used for word processing, spreadsheets, databases and more. It is available in many supported languages and it can read any file that is written in other office software,furthermore it can exchange files with other office software. In short it is easy, simple to use and above all it is compatible with other office software.

MYSQL:Undoubtedly, MySQL is the worlds most famous database system; its features include high performance, greaterreliability and ease of use that is why many of the worlds large organizations including Facebook, Google, Adobe and many more rely on MYSQL for powering their high volume websites, business critical systems and packaged software. The flexibility that comes with MYSQL is that it can run on more than 20 platforms including Linux, Windows,Mac OS and many more.

Mobile Application Software

The major beneficiaries of mobile applications are the top level managers of any enterprise. Although many CEOs and CFOs also use this new emerging trend and technology for keeping track of the companys activities. The increased use of mobile devices and mobile applications in the organizations help managers to keep them all connected through a mobile device management system even though employees using different devices and networks, this systemhelps in increasing the productivity of the company. Businesses are increasing incorporating mobile and wireless solutions for their business processes to reduce time and improve the performance. Mobile phones have become a vital part of everyone's life. Nobody can imagine their lives without a mobile phone; they require it for chatting, connectivity, games, internet access and various applications. People are buying smart phones, so they can have everything in the palm of their hand. Mobile applications enable businesses to proceed without any interruptions, no matter where you are located.

Top level managers may use mobile application software for the following reasons:

1. Tracking and efficient working: The increased use of mobile devices will help managers keep track of what theirsubordinates are doing. Usingthis technology manager put less effort to keep an eye on their subordinates work and can improve the efficiency.

2. Hands On reports: Managers can have reporting on their palm rather than on desktop. This leads to better and faster internal audits of the financial reports by managers.

3. Anytime and anywhere: Todays managers have unlimited access to the internet on their mobile devices, they now can make payments, place orders and manage client meetings with ease through these devices without switching towards the desktop.
