MASTER OF SCIENCE (CIVIL ENGINEERING) The Master of Science (Civil Engineering) course, or MSc (CE), is hosted by the Department

of Civil Engineering. The program accepts both full time and part time students. To qualify for the MSc (CE) degree with or without specialization, a candidate must successfully complete a programme of study consisting of at least 40 Modular Credits (MCs). At least 30 MCs must be taken from 5000 and 6000 level modules. In addition, a student must obtain a minimum CAP of 3.0 (Grade B-) for the best modules equivalent to 40 MCs (inclusive of compulsory modules, where required). A student may choose to graduate with the following degrees: MSc (Civil Engineering) MSc (Civil Engineering) with specialization in Structural Engineering MSc (Civil Engineering) with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering MSc (Civil Engineering) with specialization in Offshore Engineering (for
intakes prior to Semester 1 AY 2011/2012 only)

MSc (Civil Engineering) with specialization in Infrastructure Project Management

For those who wish to graduate with a specialization, they must also meet the requirements for that specialization stipulated below. Specialization in Structural Engineering Candidates who wish to obtain the MSc (CE) with specialization in Structural Engineering must pass five (20 MCs) of the following distinct modules, each with a grade point of at least 2.0 (Grade C): CE5509 CE5510 CE5513 CE5514 CE5604 CE5610 CE5611 CE6006 CE6705 Advanced Structural Steel Design Advanced Structural Concrete Design Plastic analysis of structures Plate and Shell Structures Advanced Concrete Technology Assessment and Retrofit of Concrete Structures Precast Concrete Technology Advanced Finite Element Analysis Analysis and Design of Buildings against Hazards

Should a student have sufficient reasons to replace any of the above modules by another appropriate module, approval must be sought from the Head, Department of Civil Engineering or his nominee. The remaining five modules (20 MCs) to satisfy the degree requirements may be selected from level 5000 and 6000 modules offered by the Department of Civil Engineering. For modules outside the Department of Civil Engineering, prior approval must be sought from the Head, Department of Civil Engineering or his nominee.

Specialization in Geotechnical Engineering Candidates who wish to obtain the MSc (CE) with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering must pass five (20 MCs) of the following distinct modules, each with a grade point of at least 2.0 (Grade C): CE5101 CE5104 CE5105 CE5106 CE5107 CE5108 Seepage & Consolidation of Soils Underground Space Analytical & Numerical Methods in Foundation Engineering Ground Improvement Pile Foundation Earth Retaining Structures

Specialization in Offshore Engineering (for intakes prior to Semester 1 AY
2011/2012 only)

Candidates who wish to obtain the MSc (CE) with specialization in Offshore Engineering must pass at least five (20 MCs) of the following distinct modules, each with a grade point of at least 2.0 (Grade C): CE5307 OT5202 / CE5703 OT5203 / CE5710 OT5204 / CE5711 OT5205 / CE5712 OT5206 / CE5713 OT5101 / CE5714 OT5207 / CE5715 OT5881 / CE5887 Wave Hydrodynamics and Physical Oceanography Analysis and Design of Offshore Structures Design of Floating Structures Offshore Moorings & Risers Offshore Pipelines Offshore Foundations Production and Exploration of Petroleum Arctic Engineering Topics in Offshore Engineering

Should a student have sufficient reasons to replace any of the above modules by another appropriate module, approval must be sought from the Head, Department of Civil Engineering or his nominee. In addition, he/she must complete at least three (12 MCs) of the following modules: CE4257 CE4258 CE5105 CE5308 CE5509 Linear Finite Element Analysis Structural Stability and Dynamics Analytical & Numerical Methods in Foundation Engineering Coastal Engineering and Sediment Transport Advanced Structural Steel Design
