Mahatma Gandhi MANY MANY YEARS AGO, A MAN WITH A SMALL BUILT, HUMBLE, KIND AND GENEROUS AN ABLE LAWYER BY PROFESSION, THREW AWAY THE COMFORTS OF LIFE; AND MADE SIMPLE LIVING HIS LIFES MOTTO A WHITE DHOTI WAS ALL THAT HE WORE GREAT BELOVED SON OF INDIA AND THE PEOPLE CALL HIM MAHATMA. Father Of The Nation His heart was full of love Towards all human beings Himself, he was truth incarnate And gentle like a dove. He travelled East and West

But what was his quest It was for the country's sake It was for the country's best. He freed our country from the foreign yoke In a non-violent way And gave his life for the country's sake Facing the bullet of astray. Hail to the Bapuji Hail, father of all my country men You have left us a great legacy Of truth and sharing with everyone. You look so simple at the spinning wheel yet glory of labour to us you have taught To the teeming hungry millions Hope you have brought. Your noble pain we shall tread And strive to keep our country free From bare and selfish thoughts And any kind of slavery. The Night Of Nights They gathered round him where he lay Upon a bed of dewy flowers : A smile upon his lips did play, His eyes were closed, as one should say It was a sleep of dreamless hours. The anguish and the pain were gone; The light of peace upon him shone. And some did sigh and some did And there were some who stood apart; There is a grief for words too deep A sorrow that can only creep In silence of a broken heart. And then some men and maidens sang; In solemn tones echoes rang : O Lord of Raghus, Raja Ram! Saviour of sinners, Sita Ram! Ishvara, Allah are thy names Chanted in many a holy psalm. A Poem On Gandhiji It was vacation, and I had nothing to do; I was at home and mummy daddy too; My glance caught a sketch, of an old person; He appeared to be the gentlest under the sun; Strikingly, different was the expression in his Eyes; Suddenly I felt guilty of all my lies; His lips parted in a smile , so pure He left me spellbound thats for sure Who is he dad? was my question Come on, dont you know? was his reaction He is the one who has set us free; He is the one who has planted the tree; He is the one, who was bold enough; Firm and stubborn but never rough; Truth and non-violence is what he taught Same were the principles for which he fought Preaching and practices for once were the same His deed were worth name and fame I have never seen a soul, so tall; Oh dad; he appears to be the father of all

You said it, child said my dad Bapu is the name he always had I saw the sketch again and again, His returning smile was my greatest gain, October 2nd was the day my friends That certainly changed my lifes trends The Sacrifice They did not listen; and he prayed That He, the loving Lord of all, Who comforth the poor and weak And saveth those who sin and fall, May lead them to the path of light, And teach them how to live in peace; Or spare him in his weary age, The sight of fratricidal war. And then he fasted and they came And prayed to him to eat and live; And vowed to be as brothers all. And peace and calm was then restored In fair Calcutta, and again In Delhi, seat of ancient kings. But soon again the gathering clouds Broke in the north and over the wet; And tales of horror shook the land Murder and fire and ravage grim, And fury 'gainst the young and old Mother and child and man and maid And deeds of shame more deep than death. And then he prayed again that He The loving Lord of all the world, His erring children spare, and take Instead him as a sacrifice So there be peace within the land! There was a band of fiery men, Who thought that he, the best of all The Hindus had, by words of peace Wrought weakness in their fainting hearts, And given to those intent on war Across the border, cause to gloat In triumph oer their hideous deeds. And so they vowed that he should die That there be peace within the and. And one of them in secret came, And mingled with the waiting crowd; And as this man of God approached With folded palms to join in prayer Advanced, knelt, kissed his feetand then, Ere any arm could interpose, Lifted his hand and shot him through Thrice . . . . . The Recipe By T. P. Kailasam Into a bare handful of bones and skin Pour just an ounce or so of flesh and blood; Put in a heart loveful as Sea in flood;

Likewise a mind sea-deep and free from sin, Fix on two jumboo ears,... two goo-goo eyes Paint on a smile of babe at mother's breast, Inclose a soul that caps Himavat's crest; And speaks with tongue which honey's sweet defies; The "stuffing"? Goat's milk, soya-beans and dates, Now, cover to brim with suffering human's years; And bake this dish in gaol for one score years Take out and garnish it with pariah mates, Wrap up in rag, prop up with lithe bamboo And serve; The world Redeemer; Our Bapu. Salutation to the father of the nation O, thou, father of the nation, We owe you salutation. For each and everything that you did; For the cause of the nation and freedom's seed; For the wheel called 'CHARKHA',1 the steering of 'SWADESHI';2 For the drive of 'CHALE JAO',3 to expel 'VIDESHI';4 For the teachings of truth, nonviolence and peace; For the messages of cleanliness & patience against tease. Guided thou, for listening not , seeing not, speaking not an evil; Still one of us only, dared you kill. Gone might be you but not your thoughts; Forever, they'll inspire, like lustrous spots. Therefore, O, thou, father of the nation, We owe you salutation; With lotuses of hearts of a hundred plus crores; From the peak of the Himalayas to the ocean's roars; O, thou father of the nation, We owe you salutation, We owe you salutation.
