When Using STAAD

10th Jan, 2009

DO NOT use repeat command for over 14 primary loads while performing P-delta analysis. DO NOT perform RCC design. Load generation facilities in STAAD for the floor load may be used, refer PIP 2008-0110 and 2008-0112. STAAD does not increase value of fcb by 20% when T/t is not greater than 2.0 and d/t is less than 85, see clause 6.2.4.1 of IS: 800. IF shear is critical for the rolled section with flange plate, check manually. STAAD III shall be ideally used for static analysis only. The option given for the natural frequency and mode shapes shall be used with care. Do not carry out any time history analysis using STAAD. AVOID use of analysis option in post processor stage. It gives erroneous results when used along with Master/slave command. For stepped column design, effective length factor shall be worked out as follows: Use S&L program StepC when design is carried out as per AISC. Use Annex D as per IS:800 for Domestic project

TO facilitate the implementation of interlinked PLADES processes, generate STAAD model from FWP model for major power block structures like Turbine building, Control building etc. Do not use translational repeat command for nodes in STAAD.Pro 2005, refer PIP 20070008. Do not use renumbering with descending order option in STAAD.Pro, refer PIP 20060068. When Using CDWB STAAD LINK option of CDWB accepts Save file created through DOS version (20, 22) of STAAD III only. While generating HBC through STAAD link ensure that CDWB has picked up appropriate connection detail (7.4.1 or 7.4.2) per desired offset depth. Use Data file to select/deselect detail. CDWB notations (N1, L1, W1 etc.) do not match with respective standard details. Refer output file to identify correct notations.

DO NOT use CDWB INVESTIGATION MODE for checking adequacy of number of bolts connecting the gusset plate to beam Flange for Details 7.4.1 & 7.4.2 (type 3). CDWB shall be used for details with standard bolt holes only. When Using FRAMEWORKS PLUS (FWP) While using FWP ver 7.03 make sure that MEMBER geometry. Properties, loading and design parameters are transferred correctly to the STAAD input file. Split column at splice location to obtain member end forces. DO NOT use Move command for changing elevations of any member (Framing beam, Horizontal bracing). Instead use member-offset command which will physically move member in FWP model but retain it at original elevation in STAAD. When Using SAFE Surface loads in a particular load case are not additive. In case of more than one surface load assigned in the same load case, safe program considers only the last assigned value. Significant tension zones in the footing invalidate the SAFE analysis using SAFE. In such cases, rerun the SAFE analysis with no-tension in surface support iteration activated. If it is already active, maximum number of iterations shall be increased. Input data units for SAFE shall be either in kip-inches (English) or Kilogram-meters (MKS) or Newton-meters (SI). For column of large plan dimensions (like STG pedestal etc.), preferably distribute the column loads over all the nodes within the column base area. DO NOT change unit preference after running the SAFE model. DO NOT save model file much inside the directory structure. When Using SAP 2000 Ver.10 Solid elements CANNOT be modeled graphically. It can only be created in SAP90 or through editor and saved as S2K file, and then subsequently imported into SAP2000. Some imported data may be interpreted differently by SAP2000 when file converted from SAP90, for which the user should check the imported model carefully. When Using ETABS Define intermediate or imaginary levels for the members at intermediate/false floor as Repl (replica) in ETABS. Dont import I section as general section for AISC Steel design. Import I section as I/Wide flange Section.
